Relatively little I’m afraid. We’d booked a penthouse with two bedrooms for four adults almost a year ago to be told on arrival it was out for maintenance. The previous day to arrival we’d received an email to check our ETA and when I mentioned why we weren’t told about the room at that time, it was because it had been taken out of service that morning. Unfortunately I didn’t believe this at the time and still don’t. We were instead given two double rooms (that weren’t available on booking.com a year earlier).
Our room was large with a lounge but SO dated. The windows to the sea didn’t shut properly so we used the (recommended for personal safety!) shutters all the time. The hotel (and I’ll come back to that) is front line but a pretty depressing building. The room needed a complete upgrade as felt old and depressing. From the bedroom there is a shuttered window to the stairwell that did nothing to block any noise from anyone passing by. The beds were rock hard and pillows similar. Bizarrely, I slept really well but put that down to a days travelling beforehand. And finally the hotel. It has no bar nor restaurant. It it basically a series of rooms / apartments with a small reception. I don’t understand how this can be called a hotel? The only reason I haven’t been more negative with the review is that the gentleman on reception was very helpful getting our bags to the taxi on our departure.
Didn’t get to stay
No parking
Philipsburg is best avoided but if you had to stay there this is a fairly decent hotel, even if a little frayed around the edges. It is right on the boardwalk. We had a very large room with a separate living room overlooking the beach and kitchenette. There is no patio but you can open the front window completely to feel like you’re sitting outside. The large king bed is comfortable. The kitchenette is minimally stocked. It is very expensive but that seems to be the norm for Philipsburg. The main problem was the lack of sound insulation. The reception is not very helpful so don’t rely on them for information. OK for a couple of days but I wouldn’t recommend for longer.
Au centre
La réception au 1er étage sans ascenseur ! Avec des bagages !!!
The service
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! Front desk is RUDE. They were super mean and unwelcoming to my friends just because we didnt book to only rest but to have a small sleepover. Threatened to call security to ESCORT us in the middle of the night because we asked for a bigger pot…? We are still teens and this is crazy to me. We werent making noise and they allegedly got a noise complaint about us??? Their stove was dirty AND IT SHOCKS PEOPLE ANY TIME YOU TURN IT ON, microwave burnt, barely any utensils or plates or cups, 0 STARS would NEVER book again!!!
Clean spacious a bit outdated but we came for the beach and shopping although if we wanted to fry anything we couldn’t as the electric wrings were crooked and so tended useless but great view onto the beach great shopping but the the best restaurants are on the French side for dinner
Not bad
Location and space
Bit scruffy in parts
