Great location
Not a great deal of Choice for breakfast
Close proximity to the centre.
Car Park expensive.
Electric sockets limited.
Bar did not do cocktails.
Room quite basic.
Bed unmade.
Good breakfast.
Evening meal OK, but limited choice.
The room was quite poor, although I appreciate it may have been one if the few left at time of booking and others might have been of better quality. That said, if all rooms are of similar quality, they are in need of modernisation.
The overall feel of the hotel (eg the reception and public rooms) seems dated and in need of significant improvement to appeal to modern-day travellers. It could be achieved whilst enhancing the period feel of the hotel.
All of the above is probably reflected in the room costs. However, higher prices for a better experience would be a popular proposition and would compete with other similar establishments.
The location was excellent
The rooms are a little bit dated, but perfectly clean, so ok.
Close to town
Didn’t book parking on site so had to walk to a car park
Room OK but very hot and no air to circulate. Breakfast very watery. All food was the cheapest you can possibly buy and most of the cups, plates and bowls were very unclean. Clean muck is best described as it looks like the dishwasher doesn't work. Location is great
Poor breakfast. I would not have gone back if I hadn't ordered 4. Car parking is a con and Bookings.com should make it clear that parking is extra and very limited.n I feel Bookings
.com deliberately hide the real parking facilities on ALL their advertising and they should stop this masked marketing
Location but otherwise it was poor value
Parking a joke @£15to park in an alleyway at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast had powdered scrambled egg, and indigestible. Rooms on third floor were tired with paper thin walls. Carpets in hallways threadbare in sections.
A hotel whose past glories were a century ago.
The staff were exceptional. We particularly appreciated the restaurant staff and their care. This could have been a hotel that traded on faded splendour, and yes, in a way, there were aspects which were a little dated and tired but the care of clients was brilliant. From waitress staff to cleaning staff - we were made welcome. Also excellent location.
Can't think of everything - possibly shower pressure but that is being picky.
Nice location, big hotel. We didn't eat there so can't comment but the food smelled good.
We were on the 2nd floor but had to then navigate several more steps to get to our room which was hard work due to my disability and the dogs pram. There were also steps from our room to the bathroom which were quite steep. The floor boards were extremely squeaky and felt like they were going to collapse in some places, the bedroom could have done with some updating especially the ceiling that had suffered some keep of water damage, But on the whole it served our needs and the price was fair. If you are looking for a 5 star this isn't the place for you. If you want a comfy if somewhat dated place that welcomes dogs then it's ideal.
Location
Tired and needs overhaul
Terrible we want compensation
Dirty. Nosey. Rooms completely unsuitable not able to shower
Central location, decent sized room, very clean
Incredibly hot room despite fan. 11.5 tog duvet on bed - really?!!
