What was most disappointing about our stay was the attitude of one of the reception staff during checkout on our final day, which unfortunately overshadowed an otherwise excellent experience. Up until that point, both the hotel and staff had been wonderful.

My family had booked three rooms. For our last day, we decided to arrange a late checkout for one room so we could freshen up and allow my parents a space to pray before our evening flight. The night before, we checked with reception and were told that my sister’s room had the lowest late checkout rate. Since we only needed basic use of the room, we agreed and paid that rate in advance.

The following day, however, my sister was told to check out at 12pm. Assuming this was a misunderstanding, her husband went to reception with the receipt to confirm that late checkout had already been paid for. Meanwhile, my parents and I checked out of our rooms as scheduled.

Later that evening, when we returned to check out of my sister’s room, we were met with a rude and accusatory tone from the reception staff. They insisted that we had paid the wrong rate and demanded an additional fee. We explained clearly that we had simply paid the amount quoted to us by reception the night before, and that we had followed their instructions regarding which room to extend.

After my sister later left a review, the hotel responded by claiming they had reviewed their footage and that we had requested a late checkout for a different room and paid that rate. However, this explanation raises further questions. If that were truly the case, why was nothing mentioned when we checked out of that supposed room at the normal scheduled time? How would we knowingly request and pay for a different room when we had clearly discussed and agreed on my sister’s room the night before?

It is not reasonable to expect guests to know the correct internal pricing, and we relied entirely on the information provided by the hotel staff.
