Extremely disappointing stay at Shangri-La The Shard. I’ve stayed at several Shangri-La properties before, but this experience was far below the standards I expected from the brand.
The front desk appeared severely understaffed and poorly managed. I waited over 30 minutes just to retrieve my suitcase, while the staff member assisting me remained completely indifferent and repeatedly gave the same unhelpful response without offering any real update or solution.
What was most frustrating was the complete lack of urgency or ownership. It was only after I approached another staff member that someone finally stepped in to help.
For a luxury hotel, it is genuinely shocking that something as basic as retrieving luggage became such a stressful and poorly handled experience. Very disappointing overall.
We had the most amazing visit to the Shangri-La in London. The rooms, the view and the hospitality was more than excellent and we enjoyed every second of our stay.
the view that was it
Disappointing stay the view was the only real highlight.
We stayed at Shangri-La The Shard, London and honestly expected far more for the price. At around £700 per night, I was expecting a genuinely special luxury experience, but sadly it felt very underwhelming.
The view was fantastic, no doubt about that, but that was about it. On arrival, there were no welcome drinks, no cold towel, and not even water offered, which surprised me for a hotel at this level. The room itself did not feel premium. For what was sold as a premium room, it felt very average honestly not far off the standard of a Premier Inn, just with a better view.
The bathroom was also disappointing, with broken floor tiles, very limited toiletries, and only one tiny soap provided. There were no thoughtful touches or complimentary treats in the room either, which you would expect from a hotel charging this kind of money.
Overall, it felt like an overhyped building rather than a proper luxury hotel experience. For the same money, there are many other hotels in London where I believe we would have been treated far better and had a much more memorable stay. Sadly, this felt like a waste of money.
Kenny was the man! Great recommendations and very kind.
Hotel was very nice. Touristy, so pricey, but beautiful and good service.
We had the most amazing stay in London at the Shangri-La the The Shard. The team, the service, the friendliness, the restaurants were all outstanding and best in class.
And the views !!! Wow. By far more amazing and iconic they i could have hoped for. Overall, and I have traveled extensively. This was one of my best hotel experiences ever. A huge thank you to the hotel's team especially one of the managers Gabriel, Alex who welcomed us every morning at Breakfast and couldn't have been nicer and the entire team including Housekeeping. Just a truly great stay.
My husband turned 60 this month. As a surprise I had booked us in for two nights, which included his birthday, for the long weekend. Even though we live in London, I had chosen the Shangri-La as it had been a long-term dream to stay here and also it was close to the venue for his next surprise of lunch with our extended family.
He hates surprises so he did not know until we got to the hotel. But the fact that he could not stop smiling was good for me! On arrival at reception on the 35th floor, I was advised we had been upgraded and made our way to the 44th floor to our room. We both loved the luxurious suite, the spectacular views both day and night and especially the handwritten note on the window wishing him a happy birthday.
The bed was very comfortable and so big! The bathroom was huge with a bath with a view in one corner and a large shower in the other. The toilet even had a heated seat! The toiletries were great and there was everything in the bathroom cupboards and drawers available should you have forgotten anything.
All the staff we met from the concierge to reception and to the young man who bought our luggage up were very professional and friendly. The latter maybe in their job description to do so but we, especially my husband, were made to feel special.
Would we stay again? Definitely, 100% exceeded our expectations! Was it worth the cost? As a special treat, a definite yes for the comfort, the views and the great location to favourite places. Thank you so much Shangri-La!
The view, the room was exceptionally clean and bedding was lovely
I think the restaurant etc over priced they charged us £55 to sit next to the window in TING. The restaurant was empty so we didnt feel like we should pay and be encouraged to book a window seat due to full capacity: the food was actually average. Plates of food did not come out at the sane time which was dissapointing hence you provide rice with the mains. We opted out of eating desert in the end and went to our room. we was given 2 faulty irons one which set off the smoke alarm while my husband was in the shower and he had to get out and staff searched our room. Very embarrassing then they confirmed it was the iron.
