Underwhelmed by the experience.
Pros:

We were expecting afternoon tea at the Bath hotel. When we arrived we waited at reception and rang the bell a few times. It was deserted. Eventually an off duty staff member said he would let someone know we were here. A female staff member took us out of the hotel and into the pub next door. We were shown to a table by the window. The furniture was quite run down and there was music blaring out. The sandwiches were the smallest I have ever seen with very thin slices of cheese and several thin slices of cucumber. The white bread was dry. The scones were the best part of the tea, warm with plenty of cream and jam and the small cakes were ok.
I think it is misleading to say afternoon tea at a hotel and it is actually served in a pub.
This was given to me as a Mother's Day,
/ Birthday gift.

Good hotel but be aware!
Pros:

Very good hotel with friendly staff. Be sure to book direct with the hotel as it's easy to end up booking through Expedia and not getting the room and deal you expected and paying for unnecessary cancelling insurance.

Fantastic stay.
Pros:

What a lovely hotel, right in the centre with rooms overlooking the harbour. We stayed on 23/24th Feb. Our room was really special. A copper bath in the room was lovely to lay in and look at the view. Breakfast was first class and all the staff were so attentive and helpful and couldn't have done more to make our stay special.
We ate in the pub too, and food was excellent. The lady who was behind the bar and waiting tables was so very busy but still had her smile and made sure we were well looked after.

Thank you, we will be back.

Beautiful hotel
Pros:

Beautiful hotel with some lovely quirky rooms, the hotel is very quaint and is still very true to its Victorian heritage. The staff were very helpful and our evening meal was wonderful. The hotels dining room is very opulent and lovely , be sure to book as it’s not very large. We had a wonderful stay and will return again.

Beautiful Victorian Hotel who couldnot have been more accommodating
Pros:

We arrived for a birthday weekend treat and found the location and parking easily. The hotel is beautifully decorated and really lovely. We were shown to the Braunton Suite and what a wonderful room it is. Beautifully decorated with lots of extras like a kettle and a coffee machine, chilled water and fresh milk and as a birthday treat for my husband I ordered a lovely cheese platter and bottle of wine. The bathroom was lovely and fresh with both a bath and shower. The lounge area was comfy and fabulous views of the sea. The bed was very comfortable and I had a lovely sleep. The only downside was that perhaps the room was a little hot but there were windows to open and we'd brought our bedside fans. The Ancient Mariners pub is where we had dinner. The moules and crusty bread were amazing. Breakfast was also very good with lots of choice. They catered to my no dairy requirements.
Husband and I were both a little poorly (both on antibiotics) so we made the decision to go home early purely because of being poorly and the hotel could not have been more accommodating.
We will definitely be back in spring/summer if they have any availability.
Its an quirky, beautiful, fabulous victorian hotel with an amazing location and we would definitely recommend.

Pros:

Booked a night away and what a little find. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Checked into our room which was spotless and been decorated beautifully.
We ate in The Ancient Mariner and then found The Barque all with great food, live music and couldn't recommend it enough. We will be back!

Pleasant Stay
Pros:

Stayed at this nice establishment a few times over the last 8 years and it has always been enjoyable, however on the last visit there was issues with staffing levels which had a knock-on effect to the normal level of service that is provided. Hats off to Sammy in the bar as she deserves a medal for how she coped by herself when it was really busy. It would not deter us for staying again as situations like what happened are unforeseen.

Memorable :)
Pros:

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location, right by the sea and set up nicely for Christmas (but I think more decor could be added). Our room was sweet and quirky but very cold which caused some issues when trying to sleep. The Christmas package deal was excellent so great value for money. Very clean. No noise issues. Staff were very friendly and massive thankyou shout out for the lady who was in the car accident - trooper!! Breakfast to Dinner and in between, the service was superb but the sandwiches were dry in the afternoon tea and we didn't get any pastries and then I didn't like gravy being pre poured on my christmas dinner as it made the potatoes soggy! Otherwise, lovely food, especially the breakfasts. Really lovely touch to have a bag of mini Christmas treats in the room. Thankyou.

Wonderful Stay
Pros:

My Wife and I have stayed at the Bath Hotel several times now, and have never been disappointed by both the quality of the rooms and the service we receive from the staff. It’s a truly wonderful hotel full of character, it’s always impeccably clean and tidy and the food is excellent. We always have the dinner and breakfast package when we stay. I can’t recommend the place enough and will always choose the Bath Hotel when staying in Lynmouth.

Good location. Breakfast could be improved.
Pros:

Super location, clean quirky room. Great sea views. Comfortable bed, superb bathroom with plentiful hot water. We have stayed here a few times before at the same time of year. This visit seemed not many staff about. Reception says manned from 8am but not the case, same person running reception and breakfast. Breakfast service in my opinion has gone down hill and could be improved; from no glasses available for the juice / juice and bread running out and no staff readily around to speak to. We asked to swap tables, no offer of help moving cutlery or crockery, we moved it across ourselves, not an issue though an offer may have been good customer service. Cooked breakfast underwhelming, scrambled egg inedible and dry, sausages and bacon appeared ‘budget’ and tasteless, would expect tasty local produce, disappointing given the premium price point. As a dog friendly hotel competitors in your hotel price range offer little extras such as dog treats in the room/dog towels/blankets / sausage for the dog at breakfast .. might be something to consider to attract repeat visitors. Overall we enjoyed our stay but please pay attention to detail in particular on breakfast and staff customer service or you will lose loyal guests.

A magical Christmas in Lynmouth.
Pros:

We have just returned from three days at the Bath Hotel on their Christmas package. I was unsure whether to award four or five stars, but decided on five as the whole atmosphere was very caring, and clearly efforts had been made to make our stay enjoyable. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and shown to our room. This is where I was a little disappointed. We had been given the Exmoor Snug, which is described as a King room with a sea view, which it is, but I expected it to be bigger. I reasoned with myself that we have a dog and therefore we are going to be allocated the less desirable rooms, until I found the people opposite had a dog and a lovely room. Anyway, I was cheered up by a welcome package, the contents of which I will not disclose, so as not to ruin any future surprises. I think the Exmoor snug could do with some further interior design tweaks, as it is not a room where you would want to spend large amounts of time. Anyway, luckily the weather was cold but dry, and we could spend lots of time outside. Lynmouth is beautiful at Christmas, like stepping back into a Victorian Christmas card.
The rest of the hotel, has been interior designed in a kind of Victorian hunting lodge with a bohemian twist style and it really suited the architecture. The communal areas were cosy, quirky and welcoming, with a real fire. The communal fridge on the landing, with fresh milk was a good idea.
Breakfast was great. Any hotel that does fresh fruit, melon, pineapple and orange slices, gets a big thumbs up from us, as it’s a great way to rehydrate after sleep. Then we can tuck in to all the other choices.
The Christmas lunch was very good, they even managed crispy roast potato’s which is rare, lots of gravy and each veg dish cooked to perfection. My partners vegetarian roulade was lovely, I wish I had been brave enough to choose it instead of the turkey. The puddings were also delicious. All in all it was delicious, filling and unpretentious.
My only recommendation would be to make it crystal clear on the website, what room you are booking, which rooms have allocated parking and that the £25 extra for a dog is per night.
The staff are to be commended for working such long hours over such a busy period.

Disappointing hot chocolate
Pros:

Took our family for a Christmas eve hot chocolate but it was the worst we've had anywhere in a long time. Barely luke warm with a token of varying amounts of whipped cream. At £4.45 each, very disappointed. We are local and often visit Lynmouth every couple of weeks but we won't be returning to the Bath Hotel. Such a shame as it's lovely inside.

We loved it!
Pros:

We had a fantastic couple of nights at the Bath hotel. Our room was very stylish, quirky and great fun - take a look at the website. We stayed in "Monkey Island" which had a panoramic view of the river, harbour and sea. The food was very good with a choice of eating in the pub or the restaurant - we tried both and they were very enjoyable. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay.
Out and about there are some of the most stunning coastal and valley walks in the UK.
We will be returning.

A perfect get away
Pros:

Looking at other reviews The Bath Hotel wouldn’t be able to win even if they were giving rooms away!

We came for a weekend away and didn’t have a problem with the room, the staff or the stay.

The rooms were clean and we were not disturbed by other guests and the seemingly unlimited supply of tea, water and coffee was great. I also too the chance to leave a bottle of wine in the fridge for the room after dinner.

The atmosphere of the hotel was quiet overall but this has to be expected for a small village in Devon where the peak tourist trade had all but vanished for the year.

I feel like the package I booked (room, dinner on first night and breakfast both mornings) was absolute value for money.

The only amusing observations came from other guests in the restaurant who were mostly rude and very entitled. The room, location and attached pub were perfect and everything we needed and would expect from a family run hotel.

The staff were friendly and attentive and should be admired for dealing with the aforementioned guests who had got The Bath Hotel confused with The Dorchester!

Could be so much better
Pros:

Booked two nights B&B. Room was a reasonable size and comfortable with a view out to sea. Good location very near the harbour front. Downsides were, breakfast wasn’t the best considering the price point a selection of croissants (looked shop bought) and unappetisingly presented fruit. Cooked breakfast was ok poached eggs over done and the rest In honesty was less than average in presentation and quality. We were also supposed to have had a sweet treat and welcome drink neither materialised.
Sleep on 2nd night was broken with the sound of gushing water onto the terrace infront of our window from what was probably a blocked gutter. Mentioned in the morning with a less than enthusiastic response regarding fixing for the next guests. Average at best unlikely to stay again.

Relaxing pub-cum-hotel with friendly staff in a pretty place
Pros:

A quirky pub-cum-hotel in the lovely village of Lynmouth, at the the bottom of the cliff on which sits Lynton. We were very lucky in picking the week after the parking charges ended but before the mountain railway shut; that is by far the most comfortable way to get up to Lynton, which has very good shops and places for coffee. The Bath hotel is very relaxed, and the staff are all lovely. We had one of the named premium rooms, which was fine and with a good sea view, but a little smaller than I would have expected for the price. Bathroom was excellent - well lit and spotlessly clean. The weather was terrible while we were there (3 nights) but the bar is a pleasant place to while away the afternoon with a real ale or cider for company, especially after a good walk up the valley. The food is variable - the starters excellent, the mains which I had (both beef) a bit overcooked. The roast potatoes on Sunday were brilliant. We would come back to Lynmouth and certainly stay at the Bath - next time I will upgrade to a suite for the included parking! Thank you for a relaxing break despite the rain.
