It would have been helpful if we could have reached our room in the Stables without having to negotiate stairs. My wife is disabled and uses a wheelchair.
The estate is beautiful. The hotel felt cosy and we absolutely loved how dog friendly it was. The views over the valley are stunning. Our room in the Stables was very cute and comfortable. We loved the nice touches for our dog and for my husband’s birthday. The staff were super friendly.
We were a little bit disappointed with the food. We had dinner the first night and the food could be improved. The cocktails were really good however.
Breakfast was similar. The buffet was nice. The cooked food was good but nothing special.
The food was unbelievable. The best roast dinner I have ever had. Nothing was ever any bother to the staff. All so helpful, kind and very informative. The facilities were amazing and the hotel caters for everyone from couples, family's and even dog owners and if you are a fan of nature then this hotel is for you. Listening to all the different birds in the morning was so peaceful. Could not recommend this hotel enough
I couldn't get the kettle in the room to work but they may have just been me.
The estate was beautiful with stunning views
I didn’t like the service charge being added to every bill
A wonderful hotel in the country side not far from Broadway UK in the Cotswolds. I can't say enough good things about the staff, Max, Katie, Grace, Grace and others whose names unfortunately I've forgotten. We were in a Coach House Suite with plenty of space. Dining in the hotel restaurant was great. A great base to explore the Cotswolds!
All the food was delicious!
The staff were lovely.
Loved the comfortable outdoor furniture
Loved the access to green field and views
Nothing really , we loved it and it fulfilled our needs to have relaxation, peace and good food!
Lovely setting, clean, comfortable rooms, very friendly staff! Great breakfast and dinner at the Fish was delightful. Scrabble in the bar one evening was very fun.
Pillows were eh, so requested different ones which were there for us when we returned for the day.
Everything... we love going to the fish its ao relaxing and staff rooms and food excellent..
Only small complaint would be breakfast. Great cooked breakfast but need to sort out coffees and teas . We got our cooked breakfast before we got out tea coffees.....
The grounds were excellent for short walks or longer in to broadway. The bar and restaurant were very convenient and very comfortable
The WiFi was poor but hey we were on a break so who cares
Me and the OH recently had a night here at The Fish and had dinner in Hook and breakfast the next morning.
Lovely location which feels secluded and far away from the maddening crowd. Easy to find with good sign posts and the instructions given by the hotel in their welcome email.
Arrival and check in was smooth, easy and completed quickly before being directed to your accommodation.
We went to the bar for a drink and were immediately greeted by a staff member and given bar menus however they then disappeared and we were just left in the bar area sat there waiting. Around 15 minutes later another guest went to find a staff member as they wanted their drink refreshed and once that had happened this staff member then asked if we would like to order anything.
The hotel quite clearly says it’s dog friendly and I would say that’s an understatement, we did not have a dog with us and definitely felt like the odd ones out especially in the bar and lounge area where everyone else had one or more dogs with them (all very well behaved). Dogs are however not permitted into Hook, the restaurant.
The accommodation is to a good standard and there was nothing ‘missing’ that we thought would be standard in this level of hotel, however you do have to be qr code trained as all the details on things such as heating etc etc are accessed through qr codes in your room. We are not particularly qr code savvy and therefore didn’t find this out until the next day when I asked how could I have done something and was told scanning the qr codes was the gateway to all knowledge.
The hotel accommodation is spread out and some of the pathways / roads / steps between your accommodation and the main lodge are quite steep.
We enjoyed our nights stay here and the food was very enjoyable, it was an experience and although we like dogs there were just too many around for us.
Welcoming arrival and promptly shown to our room . Free electric car charging also a great perk.
Breakfast was very tasty with great service
Facilities were lacking , a gym overlooking the amazing view or an inside pool would have made the stay exceptional for us
What an amazing break we've had at The Fish.
We stayed in the lovely Lancaster cottage overlooking miles of beautiful scenery and are only sorry we didn't bring the dogs along!
The staff are simply amazing. From our arrival at reception through to check out and all in between (bar staff, restaurant staff, activity coordinator, who we bumped into on a walk who gave us a brief history on the place), all clearly love working at this idyllic spot. Amazing food in Hook last night and super breakfast this morning.
If you want a relaxed bit of luxury away from home this place is it. No pressure, extremely quiet, clean and bright, a true gem.
Thankyou to all the staff we came across you made our special break extra special and we look forward to returning soon.
As a dog-owner with a fair amount of experience of staying at 'dog-friendly' hotels across the UK, I feel qualified to make this statement: The Fish is by far the best dog-friendly hotel I've ever stayed at.
We were met at the door by Katie, who was super-efficient and friendly and had us checked-in with the room key in my hand and information about all the facilities within 5 minutes. This included directions to our room, the bar, the restaurant, the boot room, the lounge, and what the best local walk was.
There's plenty of parking at the various buildings that comprise the hotel complex. The room itself (in The Stables block) was perfectly decent. A king-sized bed, TV, solid WiFi, tea/coffee/water right there, a card for the wine machine down the hall (preloaded with a complimentary glass each), sweeties in jars outside, and all clean and fresh. Bathroom toiletries not from the dull Molton Brown collection you see everywhere but instead a variety of unguents from another brand I've forgotten, but all very pleasant.
Our dog had her own bed waiting, with a towel and toy, food/water bowls, a scrummy treat, and tennis balls aplenty. Outside was a bath and agility area. Dogs are allowed EVERYWHERE except the restaurant - which is fine because...
The bar and lounge areas are exceptionally comfortable - both for us and the hound (plump floor cushions and VetBeds aplenty for princes and princesses alike). Eating from the restaurant menu in the bar area was entirely acceptable - some hotels banish owners and their dogs to dark uncomfortable corners and treat them as second-class diners. Not so here.
The bar was well-stocked and well-run - good prosecco was provided when requested, and they knew how to mix a whisky sour. The wine cellar was varied and priced reasonably - both reds and whites were entirely palatable.
And the food... dinner on the first night was London West End quality (I know because I live there). I've eaten lesser food in celebrity-chef restaurants, and paid more money for it. Breakfast the following morning was a Full English and absolutely nailed it.
The second night was a replica of the first - excellent dishes prepared perfectly and served with a smile. Wines by the glass or caraffe. Post-meal digestivos (a cocktail for me, prosecco for her) provided from the bar to the comfy chairs we'd decamped to.
The country and woodland walks around the 500-acre estate are well marked, graded by difficulty/distance, and thoroughly enjoyable for both 2 and 4 legs. There's a lake, bee meadows, some wildlife (sheep in neighbouring fields, deer roaming occasionally) and stunning views.
One minor niggle with the room: the aircon controls were locked, so the room was a little too cool overnight for her. We asked for, and got, an extra blanket for the second night, and it transpired that there's a combi cooler/heater fan tucked in a cupboard. The dog and I were fine though, so it's only those who are sensitive to the chillier night temperatures of early Spring who might need the additional warmth.
I don't think I've ever rated a hotel as a 10/10, but The Fish deserves it - even with the little room temperature problem. It's not the cheapest hotel, but also not the most expensive, and if you're looking for a slice of perfection for yourself and your pooch, it's worth every penny. We've already booked our next stay here.
