Breakfast was really good, especially as everything was brought to the table, freshly cooked.
On arrival greeted by reception staff, who dealt with our booking quickly and efficiently and it was nice to receive a welcome beverage after a long journey.
First time using this hotel, would return again and would definitely recommend to others.
Really couldn't find fault at all. For a 3 star hotel, it went above and beyond to make our stay as relaxing and enjoyable as it was. It's a nice, cosy family run establishment and suited all our needs for our break in York.
The staff were really helpful and friendly and the hotel had a lovely atmosphere. I liked the bar and the communal areas. The short walk to town was easy.
Our room was a bit tired but it was clean and you can't expect a hotel to redecorate every bedroom, every year. The parking was tight - but we parked just fine!

It doesn't have an enormous car park but there is parking around and it wasn't an issue for me anyway.
This was by far one of the best stays I've ever had. Upon arrival I was immediately served tea (they also offer coffee) which is included. This hotel really has a historic feel to it which really matches the town it's in, and they still use actual keys instead of cards which I honestly found kind of endearing. The desk was very wide, it was comfortable to have both my laptop and food/tea on it.
You can get nice hot breakfast but only after 7:45am, as I had to leave before 7am I didn't get to try it, but I could still go to the dining room and get some porridge, yogurt with granola and coffee which honestly was enough. Service was exceptional overall, I can't recommend this hotel enough!
The temperature during the day was 20C and I found the room a bit stuffy in the evening even with the window fully open, so I'm not quite sure how it would get during a hot summer day. For my stay the temperature was perfectly acceptable though
Most extraordinary calibre of service
What a fantastic place to stay. Hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Lovely clean rooms excellent breakfast with lots of choices and within walking distance to the town... would definitely recommend staying here and I would definitely come back again..

Shower bit slow
The staff were amazing and were happy to accommodate anything different needed (primarily the breakfast). The room had everything I needed, and the nice little touches, like the shower gel and shampoo, were really nice to see. The outside of the hotel is really pretty, even if, as of writing, there looks to be some building work going on. I also really liked the fact that the hostess asked about providing me with details about York - that was a really nice touch.
The breakfast, while warm and cooked well, could have probably been a little more substantial - even if it means providing more options. Maybe 2 has browns instead of just one, and the same for the bacon, as I did get two sausages. It looked like there was some sort of stain above the radiator in my room - just something I noticed.
Friendly, home from home feeling. staff helpful, rooms comfortable and everything we needed for our stay. It’s not far from the city Center.
