Another great stay at San Matias adults only hotel in Palmonova.
The rooms are clean with beautiful views. The hotel staff especially the bar and front desk folks are very friendly.
The entertainment though seems to be inconsistent, with some really good and fun days and then some days where it’s not up to par. Overall a very good hotel that deserves its 4 star rating.

Absolutely loved this hotel, would highly recommend, friendly staff, breakfast was nice, entertainment on every night.

A good hotel, but a disappointing experience this time
This was our third stay at the hotel — once with TUI, once with Jet2, and this time we booked directly.
On arrival, we were given a lovely glass of bubbly, which was a nice welcome. The young female member of staff who checked us in was delightful — friendly, welcoming and very pleasant. I want to make it absolutely clear that I have no complaint whatsoever about her. She was a credit to the hotel.
There are many things we like about this hotel, and it clearly has a strong following of repeat guests. The location is our number-one reason for staying here, the rooms are nice, and the air conditioning is very good.
However, there are some issues which I feel the hotel needs to address.
Sea-view rooms
All rooms appear to be classed the same, apart from the corner rooms, which are suites. Unfortunately, I don't feel the hotel is completely transparent with customers when it comes to the different types of sea-view rooms.
Some rooms have a true front sea view, looking directly out to sea, while others have a side sea view, looking across towards the sea. In our experience, the side sea-view rooms are considerably noisier because of the restaurant next door.
We are elderly and like to return to our room for an afternoon break. With a side sea-view room, we found it necessary to keep the balcony door closed because of the noise coming from the restaurant next door.
I had specifically requested a front sea-view room because of medical reasons relating to my husband's hearing. When we checked in at approximately 11:15am on the 15th, I asked the young lady who was checking us in whether the room we had been allocated was a front sea view. I was told that it was.
Unfortunately, when we got up to the room, it was actually a side sea view.
I subsequently raised this with a different female receptionist — an older member of the reception team. I found her manner extremely abrupt and dismissive. I explained again why I had specifically requested a front sea view, but her response was, "We've had no complaints."
I found that response particularly disappointing. The fact that other guests may not have complained does not make my individual request any less important, especially when I had explained that it was related to my husband's hearing.
I appreciate that hotels cannot always guarantee a particular room, and I understand that requests are subject to availability. However, what disappointed me most was that there appeared to be no attempt whatsoever to understand our situation or find some sort of compromise.
I would ask management to look at the reception rota for the 15th August at around 11:15am and identify the members of staff involved. Again, I want to make it very clear that my complaint is not about the young lady who checked us in. She was lovely and very helpful.
My complaint is specifically about the older female receptionist I subsequently dealt with. I felt her attitude was rude, dismissive and lacking in consideration for the reason behind our request. Perhaps some additional customer-service training would be appropriate.
We were also not acknowledged as returning guests, despite this being our third stay, which was disappointing.
The positives
On a much more positive note, I would like to give a special mention to the kiosk staff around the pool. They were always pleasant and hardworking.
I would also like to mention the young lady who does the entertainment. She works incredibly hard to involve everyone and is constantly making an effort to include guests in what is going on. She is a real credit to the hotel.
There is also a small touch around the pool that we particularly like — the hotel plays Capital Radio softly in the background, which creates a nice atmosphere.
One suggestion, though, would be to consider switching the radio off in the afternoons when the restaurant next door has a singer performing. When the live music is particularly loud, the radio ends up competing with it, which makes for a rather strange combination of two sources of music at once. It might be worth turning the radio off while the singer is performing.
Smoking policy
One other point I feel needs addressing is the hotel's smoking policy. Smoking is banned in the relevant areas, yet during our stay we saw a number of guests openly vaping despite the rule.
If the hotel has a no-smoking policy, it needs to be consistently enforced. Otherwise, it is unfair to guests who follow the rules and can also affect the enjoyment of the pool and other communal areas.
I would therefore suggest that staff take a more proactive approach to politely reminding guests of the policy when it is being ignored.

Overall
Despite the issues mentioned above, we do like this hotel and understand why it has so many repeat guests. The location is excellent, the rooms are nice, the air conditioning is good, and there are many things we enjoy about staying here.
However, next year we have decided to have a change. I'm not saying that we would never return, but after three stays, we feel that it is time for a break.
Hopefully, if we do return in the future, we will be met with a little more consideration and understanding of individual guests' needs — particularly when a request has been made for a genuine medical reason.
Overall, this was a disappointing aspect of what could otherwise have been another enjoyable stay.

Lovely hotel especially the rooms clean and well kept.went with my teenage daughter and felt like the youngest adults ever. The demographic was pensioner tbh which left my child feeling awkward much a few times but as the week went on it was fine.breakfast was decent but don’t be past the finishing time or your plate will be away 😂 staff were very helpful and efficient ,would I go back ? This was our 5th stay at the Son Matias, so that probably tells you everything you need to know. This time we were there 18 days for a celebration.
Rooms are always sea view or sea and pool view, decent size, spotless, comfortable beds....no complaints there, ever.
We go half board and the food is genuinely good, decent selection every time.
Staff are fantastic, doesn't matter if you're a regular like us or a first timer, they're friendly, welcoming and go out of their way to help. I had a few asks around our celebration and they sorted everything without any fuss.
Location is hard to beat. Right on Son Matias beach front, easy access straight from the pool area, and slap in the middle of plenty of restaurants and bars. It's also a short walk to Magaluf beach front, which has just had a €5 million refurb, smart places to eat and drink now. Don't confuse this with "the strip" chalk and cheese, completely different vibe.
The bar/entertainment area has recently had a makeover and looks smart. We tend to go out most nights so can't comment on the acts ourselves, but from talking to other guests who stay in more, it's a bit hit and miss — some acts are very good, others not so much.
Hotel is adult only with a genuinely good vibe throughout.
My wife and i simply love this place, the hotel and Palma Nova itself. It's become our spot.
The fact this hotel has return customers year after year says it all. We'll be back again next year with another celebration already on the cards.

Lovely hotel as always. Lovely staff super food. Super entertainment. Bedrooms over the sea! What more could you ask for? Have been back many times as most people there.

I am just coming back from a quick 5 day stay at hotel Matias and below is my personal review of my stay.

Room
The room was nice and clean, was the caliber of room for a 4 star hotel. Me and my wife came for a quick few days honeymoon and we were welcomed with cava and a few little presents waiting for us which was a nice touch.
You have to pay for WiFi, safe and iron which I'm never a fan of in a 4 star plus hotel as these should be standard for this rating in all hotels. All the rooms have a beach view, we were technically the furthest room you can be from a sea view and It was still a beautiful view.

Facilities
Hotel has a restaurant, small pool and jacuzzi outside and a private gate giving you direct access to the beach. Hotel was clean, reception was always staffed and all the guests at the hotel seemed happy. We didn't use the pool as it is one of them you need to get up early to get a sunbed which we never did. Meal times were a bit of a pain, we struggled to make breakfast on time. Majority of guests were older British people so the hotel early opening times and struggles to get sunbeds were down to the fact their were a lot of people up and out by 9am. The evening activities always a had a tribute band or something on which were good quality.

Food and drink
Food was a tad disappointing, been to all different rated hotels over the years and I think the food is what I expect at 3 star hotels. Same breakfast everyday, standard full English, omelette bar and pastries and dinner was very English catered. It's not getting to Bendiorm style of simplicity but if your English I guarantee everything served you have eaten back home in the last month. We were talking to some people and staff who have been coming here for years and it sounds like the hotel just offers what they think English people want to eat, although a lot of guests were saying the food quality has gone down and majority of people tend to go out if you want to feel like you have eaten a proper meal.
We didn't drink in the hotel but bar looked ok. We got charged €3 for a small water at the hotel with dinner and no free water was offered. Again spending over double the rate you got for bigger bottles of water 10 metres from the hotel at what is ment to be a 4 star hotel does love a bitter taste in your mouth.

Staff
I generally believe staff here are what pushed this hotel to a 4 star, never a miserable face. Always go extra mile to help. We arrived late to the hotel and the staff were kind enough to wrap a bit of food up for us to eat on arrival. We also left late and the staff looked after us giving us dinner and shower facilities which they didn't have to do.

Local area to hotel
For where your staying location is really good, go one direction your getting a quieter vibe with better quality restaurants, the other way your 5 minute walk from the madness or magaluf strip. The stand out round here is the beach, really nice, clean beach, was surprised how much availability their was for a stretch of beach so nice. Day sunbed hire for 2 beds, parasol and small lock box was €22.50 which I deffintley reccomend. Plenty of shops, extremely clean. Felt safe and happy the whole time. I would say even though this is an adult only hotel I would not recommend under 16's to the area, is not catered for them. It was about 15 minutes and between €25-€30 to get to old town which I do recommend and 20 mins or so from airport making it a lovely short journey.

Overall
Personally I would say this is a 3 plus star hotel. For this area I can understand the 4 star rating, another island or mainland Spain this is 3 star. If you are staying for a short break, only care about easy access to the beach and it's good value I would recommend it. If it's costing a fair bit to stay here I would say look elsewhere. If you go to the hotel expecting 4 star you would be a bit disappointed, if you went to this hotel expecting 3 star, you would be pretty happy. It's definitely one of them.

The location of the Son Matias Hotel is fantastic and the service is superb , staff are really friendly and professional.
Rooms are light and airy and are well equipped, they are cleaned daily to a high standard , the sea view from the balcony is superb.
The pool area is really good with plenty of sunbeds.
The atmosphere in the hotel is really friendly , entertainment each evening.
The breakfast is also very good,
We will be returning in July 2027.

Just returned from another fantastic holiday at Son Matias , from the moment we entered the reception we felt at hame , welcomed by all the staff with genuine friendleyness. Room as usual great fantastic views , choice of food excellent, bar staff efficient , cleanliness throughout 100% as always .
Can’t wait to book again , going to the agent this morning .

Another lovely holiday at son Matias beach hotel,you won't find a better hotel for beautiful views . The food is excellent , especially the breakfasts . My only wish is that the pool opened earlier but that's just a niggle .All in all an excellent hotel,proven ,as this was our forth visit and not our last
