Room was cold Bathroom was lovely and warm
Loved the hotel and the staff were incredible
Issues with heating In the room I also was under he impression I had a room with the big bath for sharing sadly was just a small normal bath so that was disappointing or I would of had the upgrade I was offered when I booked
Beautiful and luxurious property
Very expensive. Even for a TINY room
Dormy house is an amazing base in the Cotswolds. There are loads of lovely walks from the hotel and they give you boots for the walks.
We ate in the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast and on all occasions it was very nice. We stayed in the jacuzzi rooms and they were big rooms with a large outdoor area. In general the hotel is very cosy and the service was amazing. Would stay here again
Have visited and eaten at the Dormy for many years and it just gets better and better
The location, food quality, ambience, staff are the best in the Cotswolds and consistently
Highly recommended
Wonderful afternoon tea experience 19th December 2025 to celebrate a dear friend's 60th birthday. From the moment we arrived it felt incredibly special. The outside of the hotel looked wonderful, wrapped in a huge red bow with lights sparkling all around. Greeted by Adrian at the door who kindly took a photograph of us all when he spotted us attempting a 'selfie' on the steps. We were shown to our table overlooking the garden and were served quickly with champagne and a smile from Rebecca.
The food was absolutely delightful. I had forgotten to alert the chef at the time of booking that 2 of our party were vegetarian. No bother. The team quickly prepared alternative sandwiches which were delicious. The attention to detail makes the cost absolutely justified. Exquisite scones, cakes and pastries worthy of a Parisian patisserie were beautifully presented to us. Also of note were the generous portions which is not always the case at other venues. Thanks too to Marios, Matt and Sophie who who made us feel incredibly welcome and relaxed. Small touches like a chocolate bonbon and birthday chocolate for the birthday girl added to her special afternoon.
Dormy appear to have managed to balance a high end venue without it feeling stuffy or pretentious. Many thanks to all of the team!
Decided to book a two night breakaway at the Dormy having been here twice before in the past, although many years ago.
We booked a “Splendid” room. Ours came with a small dressing area, a cosy lounge area and a nice spacious bathroom and bedroom. It was beautifully appointed and very clean, with added treats such as quality toiletries, nice teas and coffees and some chocolate, robes and slippers. The only thing I would question is the quality of the pillows, neither of us slept too well on them, the foam type pillows seem to have had their day!
The good bits….
The service throughout the hotel is impeccable, from the moment we arrived, to the moment that we left. Staff in the restaurant, bars and spa were friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble.
The treatment in the spa, a full body massage, was really good and our therapist, Gemma was excellent.
The hotel was beautifully decorated and was quintessentially Christmassy, fires roaring and candles lit everywhere, the aroma throughout the hotel is gorgeous too. It’s all these little things that mean the most!
The food choice in the Back Garden restaurant for breakfast and dinner was generally good, although see below for our thoughts on the vegetarian dishes. We really enjoyed the breakfast here with a good choice of help yourself buffet items as well as a cooked breakfast. We particularly enjoyed the sourdough bread and the coffee.
The not so good….
More than anything we were so looking forward to swimming in the pool as part of our spa break, but it was really cold. Barely anyone went in the pool in fact, many people were dipping their toes in and deciding against it: It really could do with a higher temperature to make it a pleasurable experience. This was part of our spa break that we never got to enjoy.
We also found the relaxation area around the pool very cramped, feeling like you were sat on top of strangers next to you. maybe spacing out the beds would give a nicer feel.
This isn’t the fault of the hotel, but we couldn’t believe that people were talking loudly on mobile phones around the pool. Maybe a more prominent sign asking people not to talk on mobile phones would be a good idea?
Considering how big the hotel is, we found the spa area where there’s a steam room and sauna extremely cramped (for instance, four people sat in the sauna and it was full!). It was a case of going in and out of the area to see if you could get a spot, and we couldn’t, so unfortunately we didn’t get to try the sauna or the steam room for that reason either.
We had, as part of our package, a £20 each allowance to have lunch in the spa. The menu included items like salads and soups as well as smoothies. We both decided to have a salad and a smoothie which almost used up the £20 each allowance. We later found out upon checking out that in fact, the drinks aren’t included. We’d expect this not to include alcoholic drinks but smoothies? So therefore we ended up not using our £20 anllowance each on a salad and ended up paying £6 each for smoothie (plus a drinks tip!). We would suggest that staff or the menu makes it very clear that soft drinks aren’t included in the spa lunch package.
Be aware that every drink that you buy (alcoholic and soft drinks) within the hotel has a service charge on it. We don’t remember seeing this being printed on the drinks menu. We found this out upon checking out.
A major point here for vegetarians!
On the main menu, there are two choices for a main course for vegetarians, one is gnocchi and one is risotto. The gnocchi was nice, colourful, light and tasty. The risotto however was grim and inedible. It was a pile of grey looking grain risotto with slimy and sloppy mushrooms, cubes of clear jelly which I had to ask what they were, apparently they were basil jelly cubes and absolutely tasteless. It was that bad I took three mouthfuls and couldn’t eat it.
Thankfully the waister noticed this and asked if I would like to try something different. He actually agreed how grim the risotto looked. Unfortunately, the only other option was the gnocchi which I had had the previous night so yes, gnocchi on both nights!
It’s not a case of me having to tell the restaurant before I come about switching up a dish or changing an ingredient, I would expect, just as a meat eater would, to be presented with the menu that has dishes with some imagination and not two cop out vegetarian dishes.
What about a nice homemade vegetable pie or mushroom Wellington. The highlight dish for meat eaters is a beef Wellington, why not make a mushroom Wellington for vegetarians? That would be a much better choice than a colourless, tasteless, wet and sloppy bowl full of risotto. I would question whether the chef has actually sat down in front of a bowl of that risotto and tried it and been impressed by it! Surely not?
Overall, a nice Christmas break for us. Will we be back? We’re not sure (a more interesting vegetarian choice on the menu and a warm pool might sway us, but who knows?)
Beautiful place - old farmhouse converted into small luxury hotel - the living rooms, bar and restaurant are lovely and cozy - the food was outstanding and the staff in the restaurant were just wonderful.
The room was good size and good mattress but the bathroom was small - also lots of noise from the plumbing which was not relaxing when in the room during the day - heatpumps at night were noisy as well.
Overall though a beautiful property
Bathroom layout - toilet really squashed behind the door
Our second time staying at Dormy House for our wedding anniversary. Everything about the stay is exceptional and we can’t wait to return.
We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Comfortable lounges. Great food. Cannot rate the staff any higher. Very friendly and helpful.
Couple of parking spaces are very tight but not a massive issue.
