The room was clean and quiet and the beds were comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Good location
Love the location for the walkability. The staff were super lovely.
Room was very loud with street noise and adjacent room. I found the room very cold and unwelcoming. Could use some art and personality.
The Room
The "vintage" vibe is definitely the draw here, but the rooms feel more like a step back in time than a modern luxury stay. While the decor is unique and full of character, the lower-level rooms can feel a bit cramped, especially with the lower ceiling heights common in older Vancouver buildings. If you are on the taller side, you might find the clearance a bit tight.
The Bed
The bed was comfortable enough for a short stay, though the linens and pillows felt fairly standard for a budget-friendly boutique hotel. It’s a solid spot if you just need a place to crash after enjoying the hotel's famous Tiki bar, but don't expect a high-end resort sleep.
The Location
Located in East Vancouver, the Waldorf is in a gritty, industrial-chic area. It’s perfect if you want to explore the local craft brewery scene or catch a live show downstairs. However, it is a bit of a trek to the main downtown tourist core, so plan on using ride-shares or transit to get to the Waterfront or Stanley Park.
Height & Space Issues: For a taller person (like yourself at 6'0"), the Waldorf can be a bit of a literal headache. The building is older, and some rooms—particularly the budget or lower-level ones—have noticeably low ceilings and cramped layouts. It's the kind of place where you might feel like you're dodging a low-hanging light fixture or a doorway.
The "Gritty" Surroundings: While the hotel itself has a cool, secure setup, it's located on a stretch of East Hastings that can feel "sketchy" or "rough" to some visitors. If you aren't used to an industrial, downtown-eastside environment, the immediate area outside the hotel might feel a bit uncomfortable at night.
Noise Levels: Since the hotel is famous for its nightclub and Tiki bar, noise is a frequent issue. If you're staying on a weekend or in one of the "Youth Traveler" rooms, you'll likely hear the thumping bass from downstairs or traffic from the busy street.
Lack of Modern Amenities: It’s a true budget-boutique experience. This means no elevators (you'll be hauling bags up stairs), no central air conditioning in many rooms, and some guests have reported issues with older plumbing (like inconsistent shower temperatures) and squeaky beds.
The shower was unusable as the cold didn't work. I could stand at the end of the bed and touch the wall. There were no plug-ins in the room just an overloaded powerbar. The bed squeaked so loud every time you moved that any intimacy was completely out of the question. When telling the staff they did nothing.
Location. Staff friendliness
I was concerned my car could be broken into
Good value and location worked for what we needed
I’m not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I like to find places that offer good value and this is one of them. For less than $100 in Vancouver, which is not easy to do, I spent the night there. The bed was nice. The pillows were nice. My room was more or less clean. Everything in their worked. It’s not my favourite neighborhood, but if you are looking for a place to spend the night and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, I would say go ahead.
Stunk of urine, Disappointed with booking.com’s recommendations. I should get a full refund
The location was horrendous, the room stunk of cigarettes and urine. It was a very uncomfortable state.
Eunice!! She was great.
Slippery shower, ask for towels
Location, big concentration of homeless people not far from the hotel. Broken blinds and some appliances in the room.
everything was pretty great, especially for the price. the restaurant was awesome, delicious food and great service and the staff of the hotel were all very kind and accommodating.
this was my first time in Vancouver, so I didnt know the area when booking. the street this hotel is on is famous for its homelessness and drug addiction problem. Personally, I had no issue and overall had a very wonderful stay, me and my friend just stayed in the hotel until we went to the concert we were attending. We didnt see the said problem until we went further up the street.
The free parking was a great feature, and the price was cheap.
Even though it was dated (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), it felt a little dirty. The wall had a stain on it, it was freezing when I walked in my room (although I finally figured out how to put the heat on), the bed was slumped down on one side, and the closet was broken. I really enjoyed the kind staff, and the free parking is a great feature. It was also a very close drive to great restaurants.
Staff were efficient and friendly. Rooms, while dated, were very clean
Very expensive for such an old hotel with very few amenities, even though there was an event nearby. Our shower was also very small
