Paid Premium Rates for a Dirty, Dated Room
Pros:

The location

Cons:

My recent stay at the Grand Hotel and Apartments Townsville from 6–10 July was extremely disappointing.

The room was not only very dated, but also dirty and, in some cases, unsanitary. As we were travelling with our young daughter, this was especially concerning.

Some of the issues we encountered included:

- A broken and worn bathroom mirror.
- Dirty bathroom vanity and shower.
- A broken, rusty bathroom vanity.
- A washing machine that did not cycle or work correctly and clearly needed repair or replacement.
- Swollen doors from water damage.
- A dirty kettle that was unusable, forcing us to buy a new one from a local retailer.
- A filthy, heavily stained couch.
- Blood-stained curtains, which were absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable.

I'm sure there were other issues that I didn't even notice.

To make matters worse, I paid approximately $1,300 for this stay and also paid extra for a room with a "view", only to be looking directly at another building.

I don't normally leave negative reviews, but the condition of this room was far below what I would expect for the price. Cleanliness should be a basic standard, and blood-stained furnishings are simply unacceptable.

Very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, I would not recommend staying here.

Disappointing
Pros:

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Cons:

The room was dated, damaged, not particularly clean, stained and ripped chair fabric and mouldy tiling grout. Cheap products (ie 1 ply toilet paper) and therefore extremely overpriced for what is offered (paid approx $300 for 2 people for 1 night and it us probably only worth $100) . The only redeeming things were great customer service from the staff and a comfortable bed however we would not use this accommodation again.

Would stay there again for the convenience, especially as the football stadium is a short walk away.
Pros:

We were given an upgrade on arrival (top floor corner room). Upon entering the room we found it to be a large spacious room with a balcony overlooking Palmer St, South Townsville. Although the street below is filled with food venues and hotels the noise was barely heard inside the room (even the world cup soccer noise). The size of the room, wifi, beds and everything in the room was peaceful and no issues.

Cons:

Paying for parking was a surprise but one we did as we had a brand new car which was less than an hour old on check in. Worth it in our case.
