Definitely do not recommend. Not sure how this place gets high ratings. After an evening tour we arrived and beds were not prepared - we needed to call housekeeping, and they sent maintenance with sheets for us to do ourselves. Then we were awaken by housekeeping pounding on door at 8am, waking up kids. We’ve stayed at many historic hotels but this one was worst and would not recommend. Bathroom had sink counter over top of toilet so if you’re over 5’ 6” or 130 lbs you won’t fit! Expensive and not helpful with any recommendations or anything standard hotel usually is — either save money or spend more to stay elsewhere. This is definitely not recommended and won’t let anyone we know make mistake.
Comfortable, clean, staff was kind and helpful.

Lovely old building with lots of character, the dining facilities were excellent, nice location just across from Salem common close to the witch museum and just a short pleasant walk from the shops
No coffee making facilities in the rooms, complimentary tea, coffee, and water was available in the foyer but not in the rooms
Location was great and hotel was very cool
We love the Hawthorne Hotel. We have stayed there numerous times and the staff is always polite and helpful, the rooms are always clean, and we never have any complaints about our stay. We like having the restaurants and bar in the lobby. It’s a great location for accessing everything in downtown Salem. We are going back again next year.
Very friendly and comfortable.
Small room with no fridge.
Beautiful!
Just getting harder to afford but worth the money I guess
Very close to everything and has so much history. It’s even a bit haunted!
No refrigerator so keep that in mind.
No breakfast
Location excellent
They had some sort of plumbing issue so main lobby got flooded. Fans all over but what are you going to do
"We had a fantastic time at Hawthorn suites by Wyndham Dwarka. The location is unbeatable, just a short walk from major attractions and public transport. The breakfast buffet was delicious with a great variety of options, and the rooms were very comfortable. Great value for the money. Thank you to the whole team! Specially Ms Aakansha Associate she is very care in my room and cleaning."
We spent 3 nights at the Hawthorne in July 2026 for an extended family gathering. This is by far my favorite historic hotel! It is clean and recently refurbished. Beds were comfortable. Our room was clean and fully stocked with linens, towels, and toiletries. Housekeeping was prompt and thorough each morning. Paula on night shift had coffee ready before I came down to get it each morning, which was between 5 -5:30 each day. The front desk staff also provide bottled water, chilled or room temperature. Thanks to the fantastic front desk crew for granting our wishes!
Catering is great! The family event went off without a hitch! The food was fantastic! The Tavern is a great place to dine or have drinks!
We specifically asked for a quiet room and a refrigerator and got what we wanted — slept very soundly! We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return in a few years.
The hotel owners are onsite and very welcoming. It’s obvious that they treat employees like family. Just can’t say enough about how awesome this place is!
Just great all round
We could not get into the bar restaurant one day , when we wanted to eat there, seems to not be enough space with weddings going on and other functions, it didn’t spoil it but I have never stopped in any hotel where you could not drink let alone eat as a resident, not great that, can forgo the meal but not to me able to have a drink at the bar is bad, good job I had some duty free spirits in room!
Very beautiful historical hotel!
Centrally located to most attractions. Excellent food.
There were some ghost sightings
We had some issues with our ac but staff was very quick to send maintenance to check it out and when it was not able to be resolved easy they upgraded us to a bigger room
Location and atmosphere
We weren't very excited by the tavern's menu
I was a little worried staying at the Hawthorne Hotel because it’s an older, historic hotel and wasn’t sure if it would feel outdated. It was the complete opposite. It gives classic old money charm while being beyond clean and well taken care of.
The staff was amazing. Abigayle helped us at check-in and shared her favorite local spots away from the tourist traps.
The room was so comfortable and the pillows were incredible. I’m currently trying to figure out where to buy them for my own house.
The location is perfect. You’re right in the heart of Salem and can walk everywhere. They also have a parking lot in the back.
I felt completely safe the entire stay. I was nervous since it’s known for being haunted, but never had any uneasy feelings.
I’d absolutely stay here again!
Close to many of the attractions. The restaurant was nice, the food was delicious, and the staff in the restaurant were amazing.
The front desk staff wasn’t friendly. We booked two rooms and were given keys for one. I had to show that we had booked two rooms because they argued that we had only booked one. They found the full reservation and we got both of our rooms, but the front desk attendant wasn’t apologetic or kind in any way. I felt like I had imposed on her. We paid for a fold away bed which was never delivered, and then we had to ask for a refund which they did not want to provide, but eventually did when we proved we never got the bed. We booked a stay because the hotel is known for its library. The library was closed for renovations and we never received a notification. They wouldn’t let even have a quick look.
