The rooms are old, tired, and come with all the issues of old rooms. Thin walls, old locks with keys that sometimes work, no climate control, bad plumbing, old cabinets and drawers, ok bed. Kitchenette was sad and an afterthought. Hallway noise, never ending maintenance work, and every noise from outside as if the window was open. The only saving grace was the kind staff and Knicks restaurant was fantastic. Spent two weeks here and will never be back.
The junior suite was comfortable and convenient! We loved the kitchenette and all of the closet space. Our stay was quiet and restful and the hotel staff was incredible- friendly, professional, helpful, we felt so welcome. The on-site restaurant is wonderful, can't wait to try the spa next time!
A great place to stay if you're tired of soulless chain hotels, the Knickerbocker is beautiful and charming.
Great teamwdous stay thank you extra thank you ! Mr Lar MR S
Very nice hotel, location to where we wanted to be was perfect. Our room was very nice with a little kitchenette and it is a large room. Room was clean and bed was pretty comfortable. Water pressure in shower at times was not great. Restaurant The Knick has really good food. Definitely will stay here again.
We came up for our anniversary for a concert and chose Knickerbocker on the lake. We reserved a king bed suite with a lake view, we got a view of a brick wall and a double bed. Our sofa was broken and sunk in the middle and barely fit two people. No wash rags for dishes and heat was on full blast. We also hung the service please sign on our door and never got any. The only way to cool the room down was to open windows and go buy a fan. The pillows on the double bed were the size of throw pillows for a couch. The only saving grace was the staff at the front desk. They were very professional and polite. As for the rest, we will not be staying at this hotel again.
Lovely lobby. Old hotel complete with keys and radiator heat and a box fan to regulate the temperature. And pull chains in the closets. All fine except for the very dirty and stained carpet. Staff helpful and kind! Good location. Is also a condo with interesting tenants! Fabulous restaurant!
Beautiful and most comfortable hotel I’ve been! Will definitely being booking again when I’m in the area
Beautiful room and building, great price and very nice and helpful staff
My wife and I had a wonderful time here! We usually pick chain hotels, but this place really caught our eye. The location right by the lake is fantastic. We loved our stay so much that we’ve booked two more weekends to come back and stay this summer.
The building has a variety of rooms and condos. Some folks live here, while others rent out the condos. I bet that adds a special touch to each unit.
The only drawbacks to the unit we rented, #610, were that the ceiling fan in the bedroom was not operational, and it was full of dust. The mattress was very worn out, and the TV in the bedroom was far too large given the size of the room and proximity to the bed.
Overall, we enjoyed our room despite those inconveniences.
We'll be back this summer!
For older historic hotels, this one was very clean and ornate. In hotel Spa books quickly so plan ahead, nice bar and restarant attached as well. Room was nice, beautiful unique doors has a air baffle system built in for air flow, made the soundproofing very poor for hearing people in the hallway.
I appreciated everything about the location, atmosphere, my room, the value, noise level and service. I had a question regarding room tending - I had selected that I didn't need any during my stay, and yet I appreciate that someone came into my room at least 2x and took out the garbage. Was that to be expected? The other question I had: Dish soap and a dish towel were provided as well as dishes, etc. However, no tool for scrubbing / washing dishes was provided and neither was paper towel. Those were two things I would have expected. Was that an oversight or standard? Thank you.
Love the fact that there is a spa and restaurant onsite so you don't have to leave the hotel. Comfy beds, super clean and great location.
We love the Knickerbocker and have been regular guests since 1978. This time, our room was completely charming. Cozy, nicely and attractively furnished. Bedding was extremely comfortable. The room was immaculate.
The problem was w/ sign-in/registration. I waited in the car for >20 minutes as my partner attempted to get the parking lot card and register. Registration now takes place on a touch screen. It asks for a LOT of information and takes a lot of time. Requires reporting your DOB. Very impersonal. Consumes a lot of time and energy. After we did all this there was a further delay because the internet connection was occupied w/ something else. Despite this aggravation we would return. BTW we had a wonderful dinner at The Knick restaurant.
The room and hotel are beautiful. I did however, have an issue with the service. I rented the One Bedroom Suite for 5 nights and 6 days. On our third day, I stopped at the front desk on my way out and asked if housekeeping could visit while we were out. There was no sign to hang on the door and I was unsure of how to get fresh linens, trash removed, and toiletries replenished. The front desk agent inquired when I had checked in and the length of my stay. I told them and they said "Well, what do you need?" I let them know about the trash and needing some facial tissue, etc. and they informed me that I am responsible for taking trash out and if I wanted Kleenex, they would get me a box to take up to my room. I declined since I was leaving for the day and wouldn't want to be carrying a box of Kleenex with me. It seems so odd to me though, that there isn't housekeeping service for a hotel room that cost me well over $1000 and in which I was staying with two others for nearly a week. Additionally, there was a table tent in the room with a QR code for cashless tipping of the housekeeping staff. I am not sure if the front desk agent was misinformed or if this is truly the hotel policy, but even at the Motel 6, I know the housekeeper comes and at least knocks every day!
I left the trash there and grabbed some napkins from a coffee place. Thanks Knickerbocker. You can do better than that!
I have been a guest, as well as recommended to family members, at the Knickerbocker several times. This time, I had rented an apt instead and when I checked into the place at 10 PM, it was unacceptable to stay there (inadequate heat in Milwaukee winter, biggest problem)! I called the Knickerbocker and got Jamil on the phone. He was SOOOO wonderful to me, got me booked and assured me I could come over and they'd accommodate me. He was so kind to me. All the concierges were terrific as is Guy, the onsite engineer, who I called about a broken blind and excessive heat in the first room I was assigned! I was immediately given another room in which I stayed for 5 more nights. I chose parking on site, which worked without a hitch. Several nights, there was noise from the next room which was very loud, and sometimes when people gathered in the hall, it was loud. For the most part, it was quiet. I was fortunate to be able to obtain a massage in the Spa, which I highly recommend. The onsite restaurant, The Knick, was convenient, and since the ice machine in the hotel was broken, the restaurant let guests pick up ice from them. The location for me is perfect as I am there to visit family at St. Johns on the Lake and Chai Point, Ovation - both on North Prospect Ave. Love the neighborhood.
Housekeeping was great, concierges were all helpful and gracious, and I would recommend others to stay here without hesitation.
The Knickerbocker Hotel has been a long time, award winning hotel in Milwaukee for many years. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. It's not a slick, glitzy hotel, but it is clean and very well maintained. The staff is superb. The front desk staff member, Precious, totally lives up to her name. She was incredibly helpful to me in arranging transportation to the airport, and storing my luggage. I would have absolutely no hesitation in staying at the Knickerbocker again.
I must say the room was excellent, bed very comfortable, & suite was exceptionally clean. Food in restaurant was great.
Over looking Lake Michigan was a plus. I would definitely stay at the Knickerbocker again.
Pros:
It was a nice stay. The hotel was beautiful, and the room was comfortable, quiet, and clean. We were happy with the experience, especially given the low price.
The hotel is close to the tram line (Hop), which made transportation easy in the cold weather. The restaurant below the hotel was also quite good.
Cons:
The room service we got on our second day was incomplete; our bed was left unmade, which is why I dropped one star. Also, the room was a bit too warm at night, which made sleeping hard.
very clean and super convenient. the price was ridiculously affordable considering the location and amenities. we were there in the cold season and the room was plenty warm. customer service was great. the unique doors and cool art deco details are really fun to explore. just a beautiful building all around. my family ate dinner at the knick and loved it too. 24 hour desk person was nice so no worries. using keys to get into the room was charming. the rooms were very specious. the bed was a wee soft but pretty good and lots of pillows. I'd go back for sure and love to stay a week to explore the cite since the location is kind of perfect. there's parking on street but a lot for guests too. it's not that busy of a street and just outside of the downtown enough to be easier to park, and there's a coffee shop a few minutes walk away, plus the plaza hotel a few mintues the other way has great breakfast. it's kind of perfect!
Wonderful older hotel, beautiful lobby, friendly staff. Room was clean and warm. Great location. Good value too. Convenient parking.
