We enjoyed our stay in York. The hotel was very beautifully decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were
Pros:

The property was beautiful a very quirky place. Decorated beautifully. The breakfast room was lovely and the staff were all very welcoming. A good location

Cons:

The room was too small for us, very little room to move around. No space for cases. The window did not stay open. Television had no signal but we managed to fix this. The heat in the room was unbearable but the hotel did have a fan in the room but was blowing out hot air.

The staff were very helpful and moved us on our second day, broken bathroom floor tiles.
Pros:

breakfast was excellent, location was excellent, our room was stunning when you first walked in, what wasn't stunning was the torn velux blinds and the springs that came out of the mattress, which caused scratches on my partners inner legs and private area, we complained to the hotel due to this and we were moved rooms. What is upsetting is not only the springs catching my partner but the hotel knew about the maintenance of the room and it was still open to paying guests, the lack of sleep through sunshine coming through the velux windows and the poor maintenance in the bathroom.

Cons:

I feel the hotel needs updating with maintenance. Beautiful building but is let down by poor maintenance. Shower heads in bathroom need replacing spurting water in different directions, loose heads, dreadful mastic around the shower screen. Was moved to another room where bathroom tiles are broken too.

Comfortable stay in a very friendly and relaxed hotel.
Pros:

We stayed in a deluxe room, which was located at the back of the hotel. It was very quiet and comfortable.
We had a few queries with the room, which were dealt with swiftly and efficiently by the staff, who were always friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We really felt at home at the hotel and felt sad when we left.

Cons:

We had an initial problem with the doors/windows in the room, but this was sorted out whilst we were staying there.
So overall we had no issues with the room during our stay. Parking was a slight issue for us as the road is restricted and the parking fee for a 4 night stay would have been expensive. However, we managed ok and the staff were very helpful.

Nice Hotel, very friendly staff but the room was very charming for 1 person use.
Pros:

The friendly staff

Cons:

It was a very tiny room and we travelled with our dog. I think you can not stay with two persons and a dog in that small room and certain not for that price.

Für den Preis wenig Komfort
Pros:

Nähe zur tollen City, freundliche Mitarbeite

Cons:

Zimmer schlecht zu lüften und stickig warm, Ventilator laut. Zimmer eng, (um den Wasserkocher zu nutzen, musste er erst auf den Boden gestellt werden). Möbel unkomfortabel, Matratze zu hart.

Great hotel, terribly sized room
Pros:

The hotel was beautiful and staff were very helpful, welcoming and friendly

Cons:

The room was exceptionally small with no space to walk around the bed. I believe this was a 'small queen' and other rooms would be larger. I would not recommend this room if you are taller than 5ft or don't mind climbing over each other to get in/out of bed.

The great York coffee drought of 2026
Pros:

We stay in York quite often and fancied a change from the chain hotels we usually use.

Hotel Clementine is part of a small local group of businesses, but feels very much like an independent guesthouse with all the advantages and quirks that entails. We booked a standard room, which was absolutely fine for us as a couple (we actually like each other, which helps). The hotel has a funky, tongue-in-cheek, Georgian post-modern decor throughout, which is fun - and a bit (unintentionally?) Goth!

The rooms were absolutely spotless and serviced every day - and there was a nice bit of garden around the back, which was welcome during the continuing heatwave.

Breakfast was a bit variable for us.

We had some very nice days during our stay, and my meat-eating partner enjoyed the full breakfasts. Poached eggs came out perfect on the days I ordered them.

However, one day I ordered scrambled eggs, which didn't seem freshly prepared. In fact, they were more like mashed boiled/poached eggs. I mixed them with a bit of butter, and all was well.

Our only real upset was over coffee.

Because there was no coffee-maker in the room rate we chose, we really needed that first jolt of caffeine. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a policy of coffee rationing that became a daily battle of wills.

Day one, we received two cups, one each, in a single pot. A cup holds about 150ml of liquid - 200ml tops. A mug is 330ml - so that's about what they gave us. A mug of coffee to *share*.

We tried to circumvent this shadow regulation on day two by asking for two pots of coffee. We got some side-eye, and the pots that arrived had one cup of coffee in them *each*. On the following morning, we asked for additional coffee after we'd finished our ration, and our request was happily accepted. Plot twist: the coffee didn't arrive.

Day four, an unsuspecting French couple arrived. When asked for their drink preference, the lady asked for "a double espresso". Oh, sweet summer child, I thought, as a veteran of the great York coffee drought of 2026. However, I must attest that upon that day, we asked for and did receive additional coffee. Hurrah!

Would I recommend the Hotel Clementine? Yes, yes. But bring coffee bags.
