This was an unforgettable weekend experience thanks to an amazing hotel staff that made us feel special throughout the stay. We were welcomed by a very friendly reception employee that explained all available amenities at the hotel. Food quality was excellent. And last but not least the immaculately clean rooms that makes it a truly 5 star experience. I would definitely recommend this place and I can’t wait to visit again!!!
I never wrote reviews and I rarely go to hotels that exceed my expectations- but this did. The environment, style, comfort and quality was fabulous - and the breakfasts are unique and really exceptional!
This wasn’t horrible but overall this was not worth it. Some key things
- the sheets and linen are cheap polyester which for a cold and dry place don’t feel good on your skin
- the thermostat was broken and took multiple conversations with the front desk to fix
- no turn down service/ didn’t replace towels
- feels run down. Thee carpets look dirty
I should have trusted Reddit over ChatGPT and got a different hotel
Brilliant weekend for my husband's birthday. Room | very big, quiet, incredibly comfortable bed, lovely view (Room #728), small balcony but not used as freezing temperature that weekend. Breakfast | legendary! Bar | imaginative (album covers as artwork and vinyl LP's you can play), varied mocktails for me as non-drinker. Spa | sumptuous, gorgeous pool, steam room & sauna. Lighting throughout the entire hotel gave a tranquil calm feel. Tying it all together...the amazing team working there..professionalism exemplified. Worth the cost.
Absolutely excellent
Amazing breakfast
It was faultless
In fact, it is one of the most beautiful and pleasant hotels in Oslo, Norway. I really liked how easy the check-in process was, as well as the cleanliness of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. The hotel is located in a very beautiful and very safe area, and the breakfast is very diverse with excellent, high-quality service. The room’s view overlooking the lake is absolutely beautiful. Honestly, everything about the hotel is wonderful in every aspect. I liked it very much, and the rooms are lovely, although they are somewhat small; however, this is generally the standard in Europe. Overall, the hotel is good and clean, and I highly recommend staying there.
There is no private parking owned by the hotel itself, even though it is a five-star property. However, the hotel cooperates with a parking facility located underneath the building, on the lower levels, but the cost is very high — approximately 550 Norwegian kroner per day. In my opinion, it would have been better if the hotel offered at least a discount for guests who have cars and use the parking regularly. From a personal point of view, five-star hotels are expected to provide the highest level of care for their guests, and paying around 550 NOK per day for parking is simply too expensive.
The second issue is that there is no luggage porter service, as is usually available in some other five-star hotels.
The third point, which really bothered me, is that the hotel charged 95 Norwegian kroner to my Visa card. When I contacted them to question this charge, they said it was taken by mistake for a toothpaste fee and that it had been refunded. However, until now, nothing has been returned to my account. This issue was very upsetting, and I hope they will refund the 95 NOK as soon as possible.
Camere, colazione, posizione, staff
The staff was very informative and friendly. We had to checkout before breakfast and they offered a “to-go” breakfast that did not disappoint.
Room was hot and had to open the door. The outside was extremely loud due to people which is out of the hotels control.
Frühstück war genial! Service top, sehr freundliches Personal und top-Lage
SPA ist sehr klein. Weg zum Fjord sehr beschwerlich
The Thief is supposed to be one of Oslo’s best hotels, and you are certainly allowed to pay as if it is — but unfortunately, the quality only lives up to about 90% of expectations. This is one of Petter Stordalen’s pride and joy, but that does not help much when very simple things end up damaging both reputation and quality.
The breakfast buffet is extensive and partly nicely presented, but when you go to the cheese section it is completely empty for 1.5 hours, and no one refills it. The only cheese available is half of a hollowed-out, unappetizing rind that clearly bears the marks of many hands having touched it. No thank you — not for me. Cold cuts should be arranged so guests can take what they want without touching everything else. This is a matter of hygiene.
The evening before, we stopped by the bar for a nightcap before going to bed, and that also came with a surprise. The bar only had three types of red wine (which would have been fine), but the bottles were placed on a trolley in a warm room with a fireplace. I would guess my Pinot Noir was at least 23–24°C. That is basically mulled wine. The bartender explained that the bar is not equipped to keep wine bottles cooled, and that this has been a problem for a long time. A long time…! Petter Stordalen is a billionaire, yet apparently cannot afford a wine cooler for the bar at The Thief.
The room also shows signs of lacking that little extra. The bed was not properly made, and in the bathroom there was a trash bin that had clearly been knocked around hard — it was covered in dents on the top and sides. And perhaps housekeeping could be taught that when placing two drinking glasses next to each other for a guest, they should at least be of the same type and size.
As mentioned, it is the small things that are missing. On the positive side, the staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful.
You pay 100%, but unfortunately you only get 90% value for your money.
Posizione in un bellissimo quartiere, camere ampie bagni grandi e letti comodi
Colazione varia e di ottima qualità
