Location lovely. Breakfast very good. Limited staff but friendly.
Our stay was spoilt because we were given room 9 a small double. Wallpaper and damp on all walls. Bathroom was filthy with hairs on the floor and a dirty toilet. There are only two small doubles and we have never seen such a bad room even the door to our room was jammed. There was intermittent noise throughout the night so didnt sleep well. This room should NOT be available to paying guests. Couldn't upgrade because hotel was full. This room should be condemned and should not be available as paying guests. I have the most awful pictures to prove how bad it was and believe we should have a refund.
On arrival things looked promising but unfortunatley soon went down hill.
Pool and leisure facilities was very nice..but my son wasn't even allowed in the pool at certain times.
- We were 30 minuted early for checkin so decided to go for a coffee, no option for cake or light snack. Not even a saucer with coffee. And on asking for sugar when I received my coffee staff member served another before THEN getting my sugar.
- Room was dated and was in desperate need of TLC. No netting on the curtains so looked directly into the opposite guests windows.
- Quite a collection of dust on the headboard, bathroom door was dirty. Base of bath panel was swollen, hole in the ceiling of the bathroom.
- The TV in the room was already logged into someone else's account so I went downstairs to get help to find a not on reception to call a number, but I didn't have phone signal. I asked a lady at the bar and she said she'd help but after looking at teh TV said she had nbo idea, so I asked 3 times could someone else help and she said no one was available.
- Went for a lovely swim in the afternoon but were leaving early the following morning, so asked at reception what time the pool opened, to whicch she replied 7am. Myself and my son (who is 11 and was with me at the desk when I ask) went for a swim at 8am, he got changed and was in the pool area before me only to be told that he wasn't allowed to be there and to leave. I met him quite upset as he was coming out, a member of staff who was cleaning also appeared so I asked her what the problem was.. she said he wasn't allowed until 9am or the club members would complain. No one told us this and there was no information anyway to share this information either, he said for me to go in for a swim and he'd wait. To which I did and spent 10 minuted listening to 3 very rude older people saying how ridiculous it was that Hotel guests were allowed to use "their" facilities.
- Reception was empty again when we were leaving at 9am, and a note to say go to the other side of the hotel to the Spa entrance to sign out. Quote frankly after the earlier incident we just let our keys and...
Lovely looking property but my room was a little dated.
It would be good value if you are able to make use of the spa facilities, I wasn’t and with breakfast not being included it was a little expensive
Tr-Ysgawen is a wonderful place. We can throughly recommend it. We loved the peace. We loved the location. We loved the building. We simply loved the entire experience.
Breakfast was tasty. Dinner choices were great. And to have a spa attached what more could we have asked for?
We would love to visit again in the Winter with snow on the ground.
Five hour drive away. There’s nothing they can do about that. I wish I was closer so we could go again.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. Especially Jackie on reception.
The building various lounges were comfortable, especially the library.
The grounds are quiet and peaceful.
The spa was clean and relaxing.
The hotel is tired and in need of refurbishment.
The continental breakfast was ok. The cooked breakfast was very questionable. My husbands bacon and poached eggs was swimming in water, and my porridge was terrible. It was a dish of uncooked oats that I literally stood my spoon in.
The Spa Pool is brilliant, and probably 20m so big enough to have a decent fitness swim. And not crowded despite most users seeming to be locals. The gym has all new and extensive equipment to that's a big plus. And we liked the front of desk quirky restaurant manager.
Room 36 outlook is an extensive black flat felt roof! Room 37 is even worse with those two huge pipes is even worse. Unless there is some prettifying with screens or shrub tubs, neither should really be offered to even Booking.com clients. The receptionist found an alternative for us thankfully, but someone else would have had the displeasure and 160 squids is serious money.
Beautiful old hall and grounds.
Didn’t like the meal. Risotto very salty.
Pretty facade and a clear history to the building.
Dirty and tired rooms. Nowhere near a modern 4 star experience.
Breakfast plenty of choice,friendly staff.
Noise from kitchen
The Spa facilities are great and bathroom in the room was superb. The staff were lovely.
The room had a musty smell. The upholstery on a chair was damaged, the drawer in bed side table was damaged, and plug socket wasn’t screwed to the wall properly. We paid for full breakfast but they run out of hash browns and forgot to add black pudding and everything else on a plate was cold.
A number of items were not served with cooked breakfast and I had to ask for them
Food not available in bar although it was advertised as being available.
Tv impossible to use.
Wi-Fi unavailable
Restaurant, bar and spa facilities were excellent. Problem with plumbing occurred but this was responded to out of hours very quickly and efficiently. Excellent, friendly Staff.
Electric car charging facilities need improving. Tea coffee facilities were poor.
Excellent service from all the staff
Highly reccomend a visit
