We had a lovely 3 night stay in the charming and secluded cottage of this idyllic property. We arrived late at night after 30 hours of travel and were warmly greeted with a delicious welcome beverage and a dinner of our choosing despite the late hour of our arrival. What made House of Waine so remarkable was the level of service they provided 24 hours a day. When we needed an early breakfast to accommodate our 6am departure flight, they made sure the kitchen was open for us to have a delicious full breakfast. Everyone here worked hard to make sure we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The cottage we stayed in right off the pool was spacious and beautifully appointed. It had 2 fireplaces, one in the living room area and one in the bedroom. The cottage’s kitchen was well stocked with cold beverages, tea, coffee, and snacks. We really enjoyed the lovely outdoor private sitting area, where we sat and enjoyed the beautiful landscaping and the sounds of nature. The House of Waine is located in the beautiful Karen district of Nairobi, close to the Giraffe Center, the Nairobi National Park, and the Blixen House. We couldn’t have asked for a better place for us to recharge and begin to explore all that Kenya has to offer. It was the best place for us to begin our East African safari and would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, tranquil place with pristine grounds and impeccable service.
This boutique hotel exudes charm and elegance. It was my husband's birthday and they made us feel special from the moment we walked in. Our bed was creativily decorated with an imaginative Happy Birthday message made out of towels, rose petals, and palm fronds. The beds are comfortable and the grounds are lush and green. We had a relatively brief stay but can't recommend this hotel enough for its comfort and high level of service.
We stayed at the House of Waine for two nights prior to starting our 16 day safari in Kenya and Uganda, and one night just prior to our fligjt back to the States. Our flight landed late evening in Nairobi causing us to arrive at the House very late, but we were greeted by a very cheerful staff and was even offered dinner even though it was very late. The guest rooms were elegantly appointed, comfortable, and quiet. Although breakfast was included in the package, the House also serves lunch and dinner. The food was excellent and the service friendly and professional. The grounds were beautiful, peaceful and private. We would also recommend Langata Link Shops and Love Birds Community Shops for locally made souvenirs (roughly 2 miles from the House). All in all we had an excellent experience and would definitely choose House of Waine again.
We stayed here for two nights before leaving on our safari adventure. This is a nice oasis outside Nairobi, but conveniently located to local attractions and restaurants.
Each of the rooms is unique--large and comfortable. The grounds and pool are very nice. Service was incredibly friendly. Breakfast was included, and was very good quality. We ate out for lunch and dinner, and only later learned that we could have had those meals here as well.
A wonderful property with very friendly and welcoming people.
The staff and grounds at this resort are amazing.
The rooms are beyond exceptional. Mine had a fire place and a claw foot tub. Others had balconies.
The gardens are peaceful and lush; full of different plants and color.
Food was exceptional. One day I stayed at the hotel and for lunch, they served it in the garden.
Highly recommend this hotel if you need a place to stay in Nairobi.
We stayed two nights at House of Waine upon arrival to Nairobi to get adjusted to the time change from the US. This was a lovely B&B with a very comfortable room and beautiful grounds. We enjoyed the breakfast which was very filling and delicious. The room was spacious and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this venue for a short stay prior to going on safari.
House of Waine in Nairobi was an amazing place to start off our safari trip! It is really close to the Karen Blixen House and Giraffe Centre. We felt really welcomed by all of the staff, especially Maurice who helped us at meals! The rooms were extremely clean, AC worked really well, and the food was great! They even set up a birthday surprise for my mom - complete with a cake and decorated room. We reached the hotel at almost 11pm, but they still welcomed us with a welcome drink and had the chefs/waiters stay late so we could have dinner. We really appreciate all of the people at House of Waine who made our stay amazing!
Really lovely colonial style hotel. Recently refurbished rooms excellent. Service first rate. Gardens and pool delightful. Good food. Really safe area. Good beds. Excellent pillows. Generous minibar. Ignore any of the negative reviews..IMHO they are rubbish
We stayed here for one night before we headed south to Tanzania. The staff was excellent, the rooms were large and comfortable, and the food was good. We stayed in the room called "Tembo," which had a nice view of the pool. Before dinner we had drinks in the lobby area, and the bartender made very nice cocktails. It was a very nice stay.
This hotel was a real find for me. A beautiful manor in a very posh neightborhood in Nairobi, sorrounded by acres of land, giving you a feel of African nature in the middle of the city. It has few rooms, so the hotel is quite boutique, and every room is different and special (I stayed at the Tembo room). The facilities are great, with a lush garden and a lovely pool. The food was delicious. The service was kind and attentive. During my stay, the hotel was quite quiet and relaxing.
The hotel is relatively close to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Nairobi National Park. The area is safe and beautiful.
I highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.
We stayed as a large group at the House of Waine twice over the summer.
The good:
- The staff was very kind and even outwardly asked us to help with laundry when our kids had a spill
- The hotel itself is clean and safe. The beds were comfortable.
- It wasn’t clear to us that all inclusive doesn’t include “expected” gratuity. This made it relatively awkward. I’d strongly recommend the property just hike the price and include a flat 15-20%.
The not so good:
- The restaurant took foreverrrrrr. It was 30-45 minutes from ordering to get food. We tried to ask for portions to be cut in half as well; however, it seemed like any customizations weren’t possible.
- The location was pretty far from both downtown as well as the airport. If you’re looking for “convenient”, there’s closer.
House of Waine is a beautiful boutique hotel set on a gorgeous lush property. The location is close to places we visited , and also to Wilson Airport where safaris leave from. Staff are very professional and expert at their jobs, as well as being friendly and very accommodating. We checked in very late due to late arriving flights, and they also gave us late check-out times on our departure. The food surpassed our expectations and several surprise meals set up for us in the garden were a very nice touch . Rooms are large, bright, and very comfortable, with luxurious linens and several seating areas. Our 2 nights before and 2 nights after safari in Nairobi were particularly memorable due to our stay at House of Waine.
Excellent boutique hotel with a very accomadating staff, beautiful rooms and beautiful grounds. We arrive around 1 AM and the staff was waiting on us. They offered to fix a meal but we were not interested. Once in the room we found fresh cookies, snacks and drinks. Breakfast the next morning was good and the view of the grounds from the dining room was very beautiful.
Fantastic! The House of Wayne was a beautiful property and a great way to begin our trip as a family. Many times it felt that we were the only ones staying there. The staff was super attentive. The rooms were spacious and nice with amenities like toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioners, etc… The breakfast was big and you could get an array of breads, eggs, fruits, coffee, tea, etc.
The property was well maintained and spacious. Though we didn’t go swimming, the pool was very nice. Highly recommend this place!
The House of Waine was a fantastic and beautiful little hotel in Karen. We were very impressed with the attentiveness of the staff and the beauty of the grounds. The room was amazing. We certainly enjoyed our stay
We returned to the HoW in February and we were certainly not disappointed. If you want a businessman's hotel, don't come here. If you wish to be treated as a valued house guest, you will be delighted. Nothing is too much trouble...... want to eat inside.. ....fine. You prefer to have lunch outside............. Just say if you prefer sun or shade, and everything magically appears in the garden! We shall not look to stay in any other hotel when we return to Nairobi. Thank you so much Angela and team!
We stayed here for 2 nights after arriving in Kenya and before our safari started. It is a beautiful, secluded property that was quiet and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delicious. The property has lots of open space and is well landscaped. Small side note- we were on a 2-week safari and stayed at 5 different safari lodges after the House of Waine, but in my opinion House of Waine had the best coffee of them all! Really delicious. Would highly recommend House of Waine.
I stayed here for 2 nights before heading on safari. I have to say it was the most wonderful, quiet, calm, relaxing place you could imagine in Nairobi. Someone's former home, the now boutique hotel is elegant without being pretentious. I stayed in the Pwani room that had a sweet balcony overlooking the grounds on the back side. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable and the bathroom had every amenity you could need. I loved the juice and Cadbury's in the mini fridge and it was very nice to have a plate of fruit upon my arrival! (as well as a yummy fruit drink!) It was a little chilly to use the pool, but was a nice area to sit with a drink.
The staff were all so kind and meals were great, if over-abundant. Special thanks to Maurice, who took such good care of us! Be sure to try the mandazi at breakfast.
We also had a day room here at the end of our Kenya trip, and it was just as wonderful at the end as the start of the trip. Highly recommend!
We stopped at House of waine for one night on the way to safari and I was very disappointed. Way too expensive for what it is. Old bathroom and room in general. They left complimentary fruits in the room which are already expired. Dinner was very average. I can only compliment hotel staff.
House of Waine is a true gem in the bustling Nairobi for those looking for serene and exquisite grounds.....nestled away in Karen and surrounded by trees that whisper early morning....accompanied by the sweet sounds of birds...
Since 2019, I dedicate three days beginning at the end of the year and into new year to myself...it is a time of solitude....enabling me to reconnect within and recharge ....House of Waine is the perfect place for this....I mostly had it to me, myself and I. The Malaika Suite is magical! The staff and management are very hospitable and provide great service.
