Pros:

My friend and I did a girls' road trip. We left the men at home, working. We had a fabulous time. The Crown Hotel was a great place to stay. Excellent food, gosh, and large portions, the staff were very sociable and friendly, the rooms were clean and tidy, we booked a double room, and got a family room, so we had 2 seperate bedrooms, it was great. The hotel was central for going into the surrounding villages, and towns. We would definitely recommend The Crown.

Comfortable Stay
Pros:

Location good. Breakfast good. Comfortable beds. Nice selection of beers.

Cons:

The Crown was having new ovens fitted but did not complete in time for dinner the evening we were staying.
Not really their fault but restricted us for food choices as other places were closed due to roadworks down the Main Street.

Excellent staff let down by poor communication and facilities
Pros:

Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and the hotel was in an excellent location.

Cons:

No accommodation was made for the heatwave. No fans were provided, and the window was broken, only opening by about 5cm when propped open.

There were overnight roadworks taking place outside. While this was obviously beyond the hotel's control, no effort was made to inform guests in advance, even though it affected parking and closed all local food options. Because of the noise, we had to keep the window closed on a stifling night and were repeatedly woken by the heat. Providing a fan would have been an obvious step here.

One other point to note: breakfast doesn't start until 8:30am, which is worth bearing in mind for walkers who want to set off early during the summer.

I had a very enjoyable stay at the Crown Hotel and would certainly go back there.
Pros:

The location is ideal for walks and visiting local attractions in the area. The staff at the Crown hotel were friendly and helpfull. The bed was comfortable and shower easy to control with good flow. Cleanlinesss of the room was pretty good. I had the Full English breakfast during my stay which was very good and set me up until my evening meal.

Cons:

Beer was expensive (but still cheaper than London).

Pros:

Breakfast amazing, we had booked as we enjoyed their steak night, was just sad to find after we’d booked that there was no food after 4:30 on Sundays due to there bingo/quizz night.
Shame they don’t serve on Sundays due to bingo/quizz night especially on bank holidays and in high season, but would not stop us going again as it’s great accomodation & wonderful staff.
Maybe an idea on Booking.com to make people aware that they don’t serve food after 4:30pm on Sundays. My advice is book direct because the landlady would advise. Lovely people who run this hotel.
