Not a 5* Experience – Mixed Feelings Overall
We recently stayed at the King Evelthon Hotel in Paphos. While the stay was generally comfortable, the experience did not live up to what one would expect from a 5-star hotel.
To start with the positives: the hotel is very spacious and is located in a scenic area, which we really appreciated. The food options were good with decent variety, and both the restaurant staff and reception staff were genuinely friendly, polite, and helpful throughout our stay. Overall comfort of the room was fine, and we didn’t face any major issues there.
However, there were several disappointing aspects. First and foremost, this hotel is definitely not a 5-star property by international standards. Many facilities are poorly maintained, and this significantly affects the overall experience.
The spa facility is well below par and honestly best avoided. The steam room was not working and was never fixed despite multiple follow-ups. The climate room was also not operational, and the showers in the spa area were very poorly maintained and unhygienic. For a hotel claiming to be 5*, this was unacceptable.
A very serious issue was an incident with one of the bar staff, who behaved in an openly racist manner. We submitted a detailed written complaint to the hotel management, but as of now, we have not received any response. This was extremely disappointing and took away from what could otherwise have been a pleasant stay.
Another frustrating point was their water policy. We were given only one bottle of water on arrival. After that, we were expected to refill it at the bar, or pay 1 euro per bottle. If eco-friendliness is the goal, many hotels handle this far better by providing glass bottles or refill stations—this approach felt more like cost-cutting than sustainability.
The coffee situation was also quite poor. The complimentary coffee was honestly the worst we’ve had at a hotel. However, the bar conveniently sells good coffee for 4 euros. We ended up buying coffee daily just to get through our stay, which made us wonder if this is a deliberate strategy to push guests toward paid options.
In summary: comfortable stay, good food, friendly reception and restaurant staff, nice location—but poor maintenance, a substandard spa, unacceptable staff behavior, and several cost-cutting measures that don’t align with a 5-star experience. With better management, maintenance, and accountability, this hotel could improve significantly.
Hotel isn't clean enough and pool is very cold for this season, food is good and personal too. We told for this problems here and nothing till now, last year we were in Chrisomare, in Agia Napa, there was super everything, here is not good
I have just arrived back home after a week’s Christmas break at this hotel. This was our first Christmas holiday and want to give my honest opinion.
Hotel is beautiful and in a good central location to travel around the island, we hired a car for several days which was an added bonus.
The room was clean and well maintained and the maid service was everyday of our stay, bottled water was supplied every day.
Food was ok not the worst I’ve ever had at an all inclusive resort.
Service in the main restaurant was good and Nahar was a ray of sunshine who made so much effort engaging with clientele every day. The restaurant manager on the other hand just paced and watched over the staff with quite a stern look. The hotel manager regularly came and spent time engaging with holiday makers. Maybe the restaurant manager could take note.
The staff work hard and were all pleasant.
The entertainment WOW
For a hotel of this standard the entertainment choices were in my opinion some of the worst.
The saxophone guy was good but the one male singer they had was awful but his double act female singer saved the evening as her vocals were way better.
Christmas Eve gala night our arrival night we booked at reception when we checked in.
All I can say is carnage the organisation was something like a sketch out of faulty towers! We hadn’t been booked in by the receptionist and the que was massive. We got asked about 10 times for our room number to be told no booking wait in line. When we did finally arrive at the desk to be shown to a table the manager the proceeded to shout at the staff as people had been put onto the wrong tables and were told to move even if they were eating, we finally got seated but didn’t have a clue where we went to get food etc the food was very disappointing and service this evening.
Overall we did enjoy my stay and made light of the situation, the hotel and grounds made up for it and being with my loved ones. Would I stay here again YES but only in the main season when everything is available.
Recently, I went on vacation with my family to the King Evelthon Hotel in Paphos, and our experience was truly unforgettable. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an exceptional stay. The hotel is absolutely stunning, like a little paradise on earth.
Our first interaction at the hotel was with Angela at the reception, who was incredibly kind, professional, and always willing to help with anything we needed. She made us feel welcome from the very first moment.
What truly makes a difference at King Evelthon is the restaurant and its amazing team. Chef Michalis is an outstanding person, warm, welcoming and an exceptional chef. His menu was rich and delicious. His dishes were absolutely perfect and made every meal a wonderful experience. Adamos, the restaurant manager, was also extremely hospitable, professional, and genuinely caring. At the live cooking station, Rakibul Hasan stood out for his helpfulness, constant smile, and excellent skills. Likewise, Oksana at the omelet station was always cheerful, helpful, and did an outstanding job.
Finally, Anna Maria from the gift shop was incredibly kind, friendly, cheerful and helpful, truly a wonderful person.
A big thank you to all these amazing individuals who made our stay so special. We will definitely cherish these memories and hope to return soon!
Hotel 5 star rated, at best it is a 3 star given all the issues my wife and i experienced. Room we were given was on the side of the hotel which was next to kitchen entrance, woken early with clattering noises from kitchen and staff being a little loud, room did not shield sound very well.
Room seemed ok on arrival but then we noticed no pillar cases, bedside cabinets were loose and not level, bed sheets had what looked like a couple of blood drips! Holes in sheets along edges.
Bathroom tired! rust marks to side of bath along with stains in bath, remedial sealer works and corrosion to fittings were poor.
Remote control for tv was dirty which i had to clean.
Breakfast, was at best Luke warm served on cold plates. Continental part was ok but then we noticed cooked part i had was poor quality.
Dinner, at best was of low quality and Luke warm served in cold plates, no warmers were used.
One thing that did stand out was the ridiculous timing of staff that thought it was polite to jump in on our private conversations to see if the could take a plate! Obsessed with trying to take plates from you!
Major incident one late evening when my wife was woken with which she can only describe as a very loud argument between a couple in which she heard kids crying!
Every other night people just been too loud which was over the top, staff on radios standing outside your rooms with no thought for customers.
The best one was when we were showering at 9.30am approximately before leaving to come home and cleaners decided to let themselves in!
My wife had just stepped out of the shower, no respect and no clue on how to run a hotel.
If you like a nice hotel with great staff and nice food stay well clear of this one, its a 3 star at best.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I am resident in London, England, UK and booked an EasyJet holiday through the excellent travel agent Danni Foster.
We are at the King Evelthon beach hotel and resort in Paphos for Cyprus.
It gives me great pleasure to give a fitting feedback on how I find the resort. The food is amazing, the facilities and amenities very good.
All the staff are very courteous, friendly and professional, but I would particularly like to show great appreciation and gratitude to a sublime lady called Raman, who works as a welcoming hostess/waitress at the resort's buffet restaurant. As a start, one is always welcomed with a warn smile, not forgetting her formidable attitude to work as well as her exemplary inter-personally skills and flawless customer care to ensure diners were correctly checked in, comfortably seated and had all they wanted. Raman offers her unequivocal support with a hands-on approach to problem solving, as she did, when I made a particular request.
The most salient attribute I noticed displayed first hand by Raman, was her
well-developed ability to engage profitably and successfully with
enquiries about the festive celebration and general dinning arrangements.
The demeanour and disposition required for her line of work (hospitality service) requires eloquence, business etiquette and respect, alongside
providing efficient and effective service to the establishment-her employers, there again, I can personally attest on how astutely aware Raman is of the need to act and speak in a professional manner (although business lead, she is very
friendly, cordial and polite), and patient even at times of extreme
pressure.
I sincerely wish Raman well in all her endeavours, as she has the potential to excel in her profession, I highly recommend her. I look forward to going to the King Evelthon beach hotel and resort in Paphos again.

Just back from a festive break at The King Evelthon. The setting of the hotel is perfect and after reading some negative reviews about the rooms, we were delighted with our Front Seaview Room. It was large, modern and very clean with picturesque views over the sea. The room was cleaned daily and we had no problems with clean towel provision. The pool towel system is a bit bizarre unless you ask. The main lobby bar is modern with ample comfortable seating. We were blessed with the weather and the outdoor and pool areas were also lovely with plenty of seats and sunbeds.
The food and drinks are not 5* quality. The standard of the food for the Christmas Eve Gala Dinner was superior to other meals and was beautifully presented. The rest of the meals we had were mediocre, served lukewarm with poor quality meats and unappealing vegetables. The drinks, even the orange juice, were watered down and only limited drinks were available in the restaurant during mealtimes. Also note that you are only given one bottle of water for your stay that you are required to take back to the bar to be refilled as and when you need it. This is also not very well publicised. The staff were attentive and worked very hard at what they did with the resources they had available to them. Every one of them that we dealt with was pleasant and helpful.
The hotel only had the buffet restaurant open for the winter season so could have easily provided better quality catering. It made us question the standard of their other restaurants. We certainly won't be back to try their summer offerings.
The entertainment was underwhelming and repetitive.
The hotel seriously needs to up its game to be considered 5*.
The only thing 5* about it is the location.
Amazing Hotel… Everything was great… Staff was very friendly and helpful ..Rooms were very clean and comfortable… Food and drinks were great … we would go again and i would recommend it…..
I had the best massage ever with Virginia. You should absolutely try a massage experience. The room was really nice with amazing sea view.
We had a great stay at the hotel. The Rooms were clean, spacious and surrounding was quiet. All the Staff are super helpful . Food very tasty . I recommended this to my friends.
We stayed at King Evelthon Beach Hotel in Cyprus for five days to celebrate our wedding anniversary, booking a full board package, and overall it was a very pleasant experience.
Positives:
The hotel itself is very nice and well maintained, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The food was one of the highlights, there was a great variety of delicious dishes every day at both lunch and dinner buffets, so meals never felt repetitive.
The hotel is not too far from the airport, unfortunately the weather was not on our side for the first two days, as it rained heavily. Of course, this is something no one can control. Thankfully, the rest of our stay was wonderful, with pleasant December temperatures of around 18-20°C, allowing us to fully relax and enjoy our time.
Every evening, there were events and entertainment in the lobby area, which created a generally nice and relaxing atmosphere.
We also rented a car directly from the hotel desk through Astra Car Rental, which was very convenient. We rented the car for four days at a cost of €150, including insurance. There was no deposit required but only a €100 pre-authorization on the card for the full-tank policy, which was refunded upon returning the car with a full tank. Overall, it was a smooth and hassle-free experience.
Negatives:
While the restaurant staff were polite and helpful, it felt like they had been instructed to clear empty plates too quickly. Removing empty dishes is understandable, but sometimes it happened while we were still finishing our last bite, which felt a bit rushed. Giving guests a few extra minutes would improve the dining experience.
Another downside was the evening entertainment. On a few nights, the singers were not very good and noticeably out of tune, which made it uncomfortable to listen to. As a result, my wife and I decided to head back to our room rather than stay for the performance.
One more point worth mentioning, although not related to the hotel itself, is transportation from the airport. There is a taxi kiosk just outside the airport, which most travelers use. However, the fare charged was €55 for an 18-minute journey, which felt excessive. A much cheaper option is public transport by taking the Bus Route 612 from the airport to Tombs of the Kings Bus Station for €2, then continue with Bus Route 615 towards Coral Bay, which takes about another 8 minutes.
Overall, we had a lovely stay and truly enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at King Evelthon. Despite a few minor drawbacks, we would still recommend the hotel for its comfort, food quality, and friendly staff.
The King Evelthon hotel grounds lead down to the seafront. At that part the sea is rocky and difficult to access. there is a promenade about 4 kilometres to Paphos Harbour or the other way it is about 8 kilometres to Coral Bay. About 200 metres from the hotel entrance are bus stops for the 615 bus to Coral Bay or the 615 bus to Paphos Harbour but you now have to change to a 611 bus at a new bus station.
The hotel has reception and a large lounge and bar inside the entrance. The bedrooms are large and well furnished with either land or sea views. The restaurant is very large with excellent meals and lots of choice. There is a very big outdoor pool and bar and lots of comfortable sunloungers. There is a really good heated indoor pool and a gym and sauna.
With 2 exceptions which i will refer to below - the staff are excellent. Guests mostly meet the staff in the restaurant and in the bar/lounge. They are all brilliant - very hardworking, always polite and professional. The reception staff, the pool bar staff and the animation team are all very good. A big shout to the cleaners. Every room gets thoroughly cleaned every but also the bar/lounge is continuosly cleaned daytime and evenings - incredible.
Every Friday evening the hotel general manager hosts a free cocktail evening when guests are introduced to the hotels management team. A really good idea.
The hotel has free pool towels. However, a lot are threadbare with loose threads and should have been replaced. The lady on the towels desk is not good at customer services. She will bluntly say come back at 1pm, come back at 4pm. She scowls and doesnt smile or say anything pleasant. She makes you feel that you are a burden.
There is a big TV room and you can ask for a football match to be shown. You ask at reception and whoever asks first gets the match. I arranged with reception to watch a match and part way through a local guy came in and sat next to me. He told me that he wanted to watch his local cypriot team. i told I had booked the english premier game at reception. He told me that he watched his cypriot team in the hotel TV room every Sunday. I told him I had booked the english game. He went and brought the TV remote control to my table. I told him that the remote did not change channels. He left the room, presumably to unsuccessfully ask reception to change channels. Then he came back to me and told me that his wife worked at the hotel and she wanted his cypriot game on - I said No. Then he brought his wife into the TV lounge, she was one of the lounge cleaners. She asked me to agree to change the channel to his cypriot game.Again I said No. These arguements lasted 25 minutes until the end of the match. I obviously could not concentrate on the match. It is awful that guests who have paid a lot of money to stay at the hotel should have to put up with this harrassment from a local who does not stay at the hotel and his wife who is a cleaner. The guy says he goes there to watch his cypriot team every Sunday. Reception must know who he is. They should ban him and take action against his wife.
Another serious problem was large numbers staying at the hotel for 1 night.
On Saturday 22 November2025 upto 200 people came for 1 night. It was chaos in the restaurant servery with some pushing in and others trying to walk through you. It was like feeding time at the zoo. The main lounge leads onto an open terrace. until about 1am there was a lot of shouting from a terrace full of drinkers. Many bedrooms overlook the open terrace and the noise was awful.
The same happened again on the nights of the 27 and 28 November - ill mannered one stays in the restaurant servery and shouting on the terrace till 1am. As another guest said - it was more like Butlins than a 5 star hotel.
On Saturday 6 December an extra 165 children with adults stayed for a 1 night dancing competition. Again it was chaos in the servery. This time teenagers were running in and out of each others bedrooms and balconies and shouting until 3am.
There is a conflict between guests who pay a lot of money for at least 1 weeks peaceful holiday and people who stay for a 1 night party night. I want a peaceful holiday and I wont stay at the King Evelthon again.
Actually genuine review! Please read...
All the 5 star reviews must be fake. There are no shops nearby, no atmosphere, the food was cold at all times of the day and raw chicken is prepared next to cooked chicken. The night staff were very unhelpful, do not come here regardless of the reviews.
The location was convenient to shops, sight seeing n by the sea. Nice staffs n very good food. B/F was excellent n nice atmosphere n entertainment after the dinner. The service from the waiters was brilliant.
Regarding the spa, I had an amazing and relaxing massage treatment received from Virginia!! Friendly and very professional 👌🏽
We spend the weekend in the hotel. We had the pleasure to have a relaxing massage at aegeo Spas. Amazing treatment from Andrei! Friendly and very professional
We had a very nice stay at this hotel in October. The entertainment team was great! A big thank you to Bianka she was very kind and friendly. My kid loved spending time with her in the kids’ club and always had a lot of fun.
The room was clean and nice, and we felt comfortable there.
The only thing we didn’t like so much was the food. It could be better and have more options.
Overall, we had a good holiday and we would come back again!!!
I was given the treatment by virginia, excellent treatment, great pressure and an amazing experience in general. highly recommend!
We recommend the massage from Andrea and Virginia, my fiancé and I were very relaxed, wonderful hands❤️❤️❤️ aegeo Spas
We stay at this hotel 2 years ago in July. We had a terrible experience back then. We return as a group and everything was much better than then. Restaurant food and staff. Low season fewer guests might helped.
The room was big and clean but we found cockroaches in the bathroom every time we turned the lights on and that was scary and unpleasant.
Overall we saw an improvement but the situation with the cockroaches is a concern for us.
Keep up the good work but a little more disinfection would be better.
And name tags to the staff to know with who am talking to.
