Valentines Day Excursion
Pros:

Was a wonderful place to stay warm on a severely cold Valentines weekend. Great staff, nice accommodations. The MacArthur restaurant is a must. The Sunday brunch goes above and beyond. Valet parking attendees were exceptional. Views of the Hudson River are nice. We would stay again.

Plenty of history but dated
Pros:

The Hotel Thayer is the only game in town if you hope to be close to the USMA. The hotel is filled with history but is dated. We had a a king bed room that was small, cold and right over the railroad running north-south ( noisy). For so reason, the power shuts off whenever you leave the room, thus the room was about 60 when we returned after dinner. Although it eventually warms up, it cools down over night - with the bathroom tiles floor about the temp of ice.
The toilet was partially under the vanity and the TP almost impossible to reach unless you were a contortionist.
The bar was great, breakfast decent but everything was over priced.

Annual Holiday Visit Was Wonderful
Pros:

My family visits West Point each year during the holidays, and we always stay at The Thayer Hotel. We enjoy the historic charm of the hotel, and it is decorated beautifully for the holiday season. An extra bonus this year was meeting Santa in the lobby and having pictures taken with him. Dinner at MacArthur's Riverview Restaurant was delicious, and service was outstanding. The buffet breakfast offered at General Patton's Tavern on Sunday morning was good, but we noticed that several of the offerings from our past visits were not included this year (additions for the oatmeal, selection of fresh fruit), and this was disappointing. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and the young man who helped us with our luggage and got our vehicle when we checked out was pleasant and provided excellent customer service.

Arianna was very helpful.
Pros:

Everyone at the Hotel were wonderful to work with. I want to Highlight Arianna who works in the gift shop.
Since this was my first visit, Arianna helped me to learn about the hotel and the West Point visitors center.
I was very grateful that she took the time to help me.
Arianna was also helped me make a purchase at the gift shop.

This is the kind of employee that you want to have as an employee.
She was very knowledgeable, and polite.

The Historic Thayer Hotel: It Does Not Get Any Better Than This!
Pros:

We truly enjoy attending at least one Army football game, annually, which has been a long-standing, family tradition for almost 75 years. This year my wife and I spent the weekend at the Thayer Hotel, which is absolutely beautiful, as was our large room. Our family members joined us on Saturday, with our son and grandson, in addition to two very close friends, joining me at the football game. Following the game, our wives, and our daughter's family met us at the Zulu Bar, a large beautiful outdoor patio area with small fire- pits to help retain warmth, and we ordered drinks and dinner there, all of which were very much enjoyed by all. All Thayer employees are so very helpful, knowledgeable, and caring. What an outstanding experience.

Beautiful weekend at Thayer
Pros:

We stayed for two nights for my daughter's wedding. The room we stayed in was furnished nicely, cozy, welcoming and clean. The light that came through in the morning was spectacular. The bed was comfortable. I appreciated the full length mirror in the bathroom (made dressing for the occasion easier). The valet team was accommodating and gracious. We had a van load of wedding decor, etc. and their assistance was much appreciated. The front desk staff were all patient and helpful. We had dinner at the MacArthur restaurant. The meal was delicious. We look forward to our next stay. The tough decision is whether we choose to return during autumn or the summer.

The vision was better than reality sadly
Pros:

The place is nice but we spent 600 a night for two nights. I would have expected more for that price. We were in an executive King suite. I feel some glassware and mugs would have been nice over take away cups. Horrible customer service at the tavern restaurant. We were ignored and when I finally asked how we order (knowing full well how to) the waiter says oh I thought you were already helped. He was the only one working so not sure why he thought that. I was surprised at the breakfast. Again, I expected more. I should have managed my expectations. It’s aa good location. I’m able to go on grounds as a Naval officer and really enjoyed West Point, so for that the hotel worked fine. If I had known what I know now, I would’ve got a place in town. If management reads this, I’m happy to give you my 2 cents but too much to write.
I will say that I think your staff could benefit from customer service class. Maybe read a book on Disney or Google on how to make a customer feel like they are welcome and not a bother.

Don't need a special event to stay at The Thayer
Pros:

Prior to arrival, I corresponded with Alison Clark - reservation manager a number of times. I inquired about off property salon services and accommoda tion preferences. We had forgotten an item upon check out. I had called reporting it and hadn't heard back. So I reached back out to Alison, who was able to track it down and had it mailed to us within days. She is a gem.
I must add the guys valeting and handling luggage were a delight, so polite and professional.
The room was beyond acceptable. I want their pillows!

Pros:

Wonderful, historic hotel with lots of charm and unique architecture. I can’t say anything negative about the hotel property itself.

However, at all costs,, avoid the MacArthur dining room.
Dismal dinner.

Everything wonderful we could imagine!
Pros:

The hotel location is beautiful! Loved our room! And the view of the Hudson River and all the activities on the river...the rowing teams, the barges, the ships. The weather was great when we were there and we loved taking our main meals on the terrace and hearing and seeing the trains. The food at the Thayer was excellent! And the best breakfast buffet I've ever seen! So many good choices! Staff was efficient and attentive. Especially Seth and Sandy. My first interaction with staff at the Thayer was with Emily. She was patient and informative in helping me select the exact type of room my husband and I wanted to be in to enjoy our stay at The Thayer. I made it a point to thank Emily in person before we left for home. I made a note of our room number for any future stays.

We were at The Thayer for a family wedding. The food for the reception was exceptional. And, everyone got their food hot and prepared to their liking! It was perfect! The marble wedding cake was beautifully decorated and delicious! The dance floor was roomy and the bar was set up in a perfect place.

We'd love to come again!

Terrible food
Pros:

My daughter booked her wedding and West Point and we went for a rehearsal dinner on September 19, 2025. The food was so terrible. We were served chicken cacciatore, Penne vodka, Fish, Seasonal vegetable, and Caesar salad. The main entrées were cold and tasteless.
The dinner at the wedding reception was better. However, the waitress was rather rude. She picked up a napkin that fell on the floor, folded, and put it back on the table. I had to ask to for a clean napkin.
It was a very expensive venue for the wedding and for the amount of money we paid, the hotel failed to meet the expectation.
