No hot water our entire stay, reception barely ever open to complain, staff didn’t care when we told them. Toilet didn’t flush properly and sink didn’t drain. 2/4 of the lights in our room didn’t work, fan in bathroom didn’t work and had wires hanging out of the switch, mould on window and in bathroom. Coffee machine broken and missing parts. Staff were rude at best. Service very slow and tried to overcharge us for our dinner. STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY!
We stayed at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel from 8th–10th March and had a really enjoyable experience. The room was on the smaller side, but it was comfortable and suited our needs well.
The staff were absolutely lovely and very accommodating throughout our stay. We brought a bottle of wine with us, and when we asked, the bar staff kindly provided wine glasses along with a bucket of ice for our room, which was a really thoughtful touch.
Breakfast service was also a highlight, although we didn’t catch her name, the staff member working that morning was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel very welcome.
We booked through a Wowcher DBB deal, and for dinner we were given the option of a set menu or £15 per person towards the main menu, which gave us nice flexibility.
During our stay, we explored the local area and enjoyed walks at The Hermitage and Dunkeld Cathedral, both of which were beautiful and really added to the relaxing feel of the trip.
Overall, we had some much-needed rest and relaxation and would happily return.
We have just returned from a weekend break to the Royal Dunkeld Hotel. After reading some really bad reviews we were a bit apprehensive before arriving but were pleasantly surprised by our experience, possibly because of the low expectations. The hotel is not perfect and I will come to the negatives later.
On arrival the member of staff who checked us in was pleasant and helpful. Our room was fine for this standard of hotel. We had dinner one night and the service and food were good. We had two breakfasts and they were OK.
Negatives were the room was small, but in an old building there is really nothing they can do about this. The central heating didn’t work, or was switched off, we had an electric heater in the room and with no instructions it took a bit to get it to work, but we got there. Overall the hotel seems a bit tired and could do with refurbishment.
The hot breakfast could have been hotter, the ingredients appeared to be low quality, especially the black pudding which, as well as being cold, was tasteless.
I read reviews which gave the hotel one star which I feel is unfair, I was undecided between 3 and 4 stars but went for 3 as there is great potential here if a bit money and effort were applied.
Popped into the Royal Dunkeld Hotel for lunch. Good choice on the menu and the food we ordered was hot, fresh and very tasty. Very reasonably priced and the staff were polite and friendly. Was a pleasure speaking to Warwick and all the very best of luck for the future. Will certainly be back again.
Booked an overnight stay for Sat 7 March.Booked in, receptionist says that's £20 supplement for weekend rates,no we've already paid the £20 supplement
Went into bar bought 2 drinks thought it was dear for the surroundings,as it happened a new manager had just started his first day,I ordered 2 drinks from the manager the price was £2 cheaper, when I asked him why he charged a cheaper price than previous rounds,he spoke to the barman returned and said he had mistakenly charged me for 'local'price and not 'visitor' price.
I was puzzled by this thinking surely not correct since the bar was filled with 'visitors' with a handful of locals.
I do not know who is pocketing the the'visitor' supplement.
On returning home contacted Trading Standards who informed me it is illegal to carry out this practice.
I will await response from the hotel before taking further action.
VISITORS beware check charges in bar and restaurant as patrons charged for food they did not receive.
Homely bar, good lager (Innis and Gunn), comfy room, good breakfast
May have been a result of the weather, but car park was very muddy and untidy
Could only give this hotel 4/10 I'm afraid. On the plus side it was clean, the staff were nice and the food was acceptable. However the place was looking "tired". There were a number of cracked windows, the place could do with a freshen up with some paint. The room we were in was small but clean. The shower was so small you could hardly raise your hands in it and I'm only 13 stone. We had to put a couple of cushions at the window to save the cold draft coming in. One of the radiators wasn't working. Mind you I suspect we got an inferior room because we didn't pay the normal price. We booked with the aid of an Itison voucher.
Won't be rushing back there.
Hotel was lovely, the rooms were clean and the reception staff at check-in were friendly.
Plenty of car parking space out front and in the hotel car park.
No reception staff were available at check out
The hotel and Katherine in particular were very helpful in dealing with a booking issue (from my end!) Everything resolved quickly and professionally
We're looking forward to returning in July
The rooms seem to have be revamped and decorated since a lot of the pictures on this site and are comfortable and fresh
Plenty of parking on site, larger vehicles will find on street parking
We ordered food at the bar. I asked if we could sit in the restaurant next door(I use the term loosely) the bartender said it was full. It was half empty! They missed 2 items off our order and tried to charge us. The curries weren’t very warm and tasted like a bad ready meal. The staff were surly bordering on rude. The young lady who served us certainly need not apply to the Dunkeld House Hotel up the road with her lack of customer skills. AVOID!!!!
Nice room.
Dog friendly, but we kept getting moved for meals!
Great hotel, well maintained. Very clean, room was perfect. Staff very pleasant. Good food. Would visit again.
I have been here for a few times and it was alwasy ok despite the age of the premises. I booked a room which turned out to be one of their kabin. The offer never specified it was a kabin, located in their outside annex. The rooms are more basic than the others, windows are old, no soap provided in the shower (despite what was on offer), not as clean as it should be, very small bathroom and shower, basic mattresses and no breakfast included (again not as advertised when i booked). This is an ok stay for one night, but i felt the price was high for a basic accomodation with hidden fees (room advertised with breakfast, but not actually included in that price). I stayed a few times here and this is the first time that i feel the need to send not so good feedbacks. I hope it helps improving the premises.
Very accommodating for the dog.. good food
The food was amazing and the staff were lovely. Not enough staff though and the accomadation smelt, was old, and a lot needed repair.also cold
I liked to decor in the hotel. The room was lovely.
I did not like being charged twice for our stay. The hotel took payment and so did Booking.com. I booked through Booking.com for our stay so that should have been the only money taken in payment.
Good location, nice rooms
gezellige bar, mooie locatie
kamer had wat meer opgeknapt mogen zijn
