Disappointing stay!
Pros:

Just back after a really disappointing stay at The Royal Dunkeld Hotel. We got and booked it through a Wowcher voucher. On arrival at the hotel it looked and felt tired and was not the cleanest, we felt it was in need of a good refurbishment. We had a drink in the bar in the afternoon, always had a long wait to be served. We weren’t there long and they ran out of Tennents lager and also Stella lager, both on tap. It left the choice a little limited. We had a table booked in the Woodlands restaurant, dinner was included in our deal. We were presented with an A4 piece of paper inside a poly pocket which had a choice of 2 starters and 2 main courses. Chicken pakora or soup to start, we both took pakora and were given only 2 small pieces each with a cold black looking dip, not a clue what it was but said there was to be 2 different chutneys with it. On to the main, the choice was chicken with peppercorn sauce or carrot wellington. Again we both took chicken, the breast my husband got was tiny and I could hardly cut through mine. The chips and veg were ok but cold, the peppercorn sauce was stodgy, cold and had no flavour. Our plates were taken away and that was it, no offer of dessert or coffee.
On returning to our room, the cold air hit us immediately, the curtains were hanging off the curtail rail, the radiator either wasn’t working or had been switched off, it was stone cold and couldn’t be turned up. The towel rail in the bathroom was working so thought we’d leave the bathroom door ajar to let the heat through but there was an annoying drip from the shower which we couldn’t stop and it kept us awake. The bed was old and uncomfortable, my husband woke at 2am and was itchy all over, it just felt dirty and unclean. We stuck it out until morning but decided to leave without our included breakfast.
Feel embarrassed for the people of Dunkeld, it’s a lovely place and they are being let down by the fools running this hotel. What a shambles. Won’t be recommending to anyone and certainly won’t be back.

Great stay
Pros:

My partner, our dog, and I have just returned from a two-night stay. We stayed in room 108 and although the building looks older from the outside, it’s clear that the rooms and hotel interior have been upgraded. Of course it’s not going to be perfect in an older property, but we were more than happy with our room. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. One person in particular stood out a woman who served us at dinner ,breakfast and also in the bar during the day. She was extremely kind and nothing was too much trouble for her. Unfortunately, we didn’t get her name but she is definitely a credit to the team.

The hotel is very dog-friendly and has a lovely atmosphere. I genuinely cannot fault our stay everything from start to finish was excellent. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Rundown and shabby
Pros:

Booked a 2 night stay, first impression wasn’t good, and went down hill from there! The receptionist, and the others staff were good, but the place looks like it’s run on a shoestring and very run down. We looked to shower before dinner and there was no hot water. Dinner was okay, but the menu is half European and half Indian, which was an unusual blend. The gent’s restaurant toilets had no operational hand dryers. None of the radiator within the hotel were on and also a few broken pains of glass, so the place felt cold. The room was also cold on arrival but there was an electric wall heater. Again in the morning no hot water, which appeared to be a common complaint with the other guests. We reported it to reception, but didn’t get the impression that it was getting repaired anytime soon, so gave up on the second night and came home.

Birthday gift
Pros:

Our stay was part of a birthday gift. Staff friendly enough and the bar is cosey although a bit pricey.
Room was small but ideal for a night away and TV is compatible with Netflix etc.
Toilet wasn't the best clean wise. Shower and toilet had not been cleaned thoroughly.
This was a birthday gift and although it wouldn't be a first choice we had a pleasant stay and would maybe come back if we are in the area.

Get the steak pie for dinner.
Pros:

We Had the best steak pie here, by far the best. I ate steak pie in many different places and this was the best.

Cons:

We were placed in the parking lot shacks. Very small, not nice. If staying here definitely get a room in the hotel, and get the steak pie dinner.

Worst hotel stay I’ve had
Pros:

No hot water our entire stay, reception barely ever open to complain, staff didn’t care when we told them. Toilet didn’t flush properly and sink didn’t drain. 2/4 of the lights in our room didn’t work, fan in bathroom didn’t work and had wires hanging out of the switch, mould on window and in bathroom. Coffee machine broken and missing parts. Staff were rude at best. Service very slow and tried to overcharge us for our dinner. STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY!

Lovely, relaxing trip!
Pros:

We stayed at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel from 8th–10th March and had a really enjoyable experience. The room was on the smaller side, but it was comfortable and suited our needs well.

The staff were absolutely lovely and very accommodating throughout our stay. We brought a bottle of wine with us, and when we asked, the bar staff kindly provided wine glasses along with a bucket of ice for our room, which was a really thoughtful touch.

Breakfast service was also a highlight, although we didn’t catch her name, the staff member working that morning was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel very welcome.

We booked through a Wowcher DBB deal, and for dinner we were given the option of a set menu or £15 per person towards the main menu, which gave us nice flexibility.

During our stay, we explored the local area and enjoyed walks at The Hermitage and Dunkeld Cathedral, both of which were beautiful and really added to the relaxing feel of the trip.

Overall, we had some much-needed rest and relaxation and would happily return.

A pleasant stay
Pros:

We have just returned from a weekend break to the Royal Dunkeld Hotel. After reading some really bad reviews we were a bit apprehensive before arriving but were pleasantly surprised by our experience, possibly because of the low expectations. The hotel is not perfect and I will come to the negatives later.
On arrival the member of staff who checked us in was pleasant and helpful. Our room was fine for this standard of hotel. We had dinner one night and the service and food were good. We had two breakfasts and they were OK.
Negatives were the room was small, but in an old building there is really nothing they can do about this. The central heating didn’t work, or was switched off, we had an electric heater in the room and with no instructions it took a bit to get it to work, but we got there. Overall the hotel seems a bit tired and could do with refurbishment.
The hot breakfast could have been hotter, the ingredients appeared to be low quality, especially the black pudding which, as well as being cold, was tasteless.
I read reviews which gave the hotel one star which I feel is unfair, I was undecided between 3 and 4 stars but went for 3 as there is great potential here if a bit money and effort were applied.

Geat food and friendly staff
Pros:

Popped into the Royal Dunkeld Hotel for lunch. Good choice on the menu and the food we ordered was hot, fresh and very tasty. Very reasonably priced and the staff were polite and friendly. Was a pleasure speaking to Warwick and all the very best of luck for the future. Will certainly be back again.

BEWARE
Pros:

Booked an overnight stay for Sat 7 March.Booked in, receptionist says that's £20 supplement for weekend rates,no we've already paid the £20 supplement
Went into bar bought 2 drinks thought it was dear for the surroundings,as it happened a new manager had just started his first day,I ordered 2 drinks from the manager the price was £2 cheaper, when I asked him why he charged a cheaper price than previous rounds,he spoke to the barman returned and said he had mistakenly charged me for 'local'price and not 'visitor' price.
I was puzzled by this thinking surely not correct since the bar was filled with 'visitors' with a handful of locals.
I do not know who is pocketing the the'visitor' supplement.
On returning home contacted Trading Standards who informed me it is illegal to carry out this practice.
I will await response from the hotel before taking further action.
VISITORS beware check charges in bar and restaurant as patrons charged for food they did not receive.

Could do better
Pros:

Could only give this hotel 4/10 I'm afraid. On the plus side it was clean, the staff were nice and the food was acceptable. However the place was looking "tired". There were a number of cracked windows, the place could do with a freshen up with some paint. The room we were in was small but clean. The shower was so small you could hardly raise your hands in it and I'm only 13 stone. We had to put a couple of cushions at the window to save the cold draft coming in. One of the radiators wasn't working. Mind you I suspect we got an inferior room because we didn't pay the normal price. We booked with the aid of an Itison voucher.
Won't be rushing back there.
