Royal Dunkeld Hotel

I've stayed at other hotels in Dunkeld and this is by far the least pleasant overall experience for me, personally. In short, this is a perfectly adequate hotel that, in my opinion, prioritises cost-saving over guest experience, as seen in it being short staffed and using low-cost/cheap products. Nothing necessarily wrong, but there are other hotels in Dunkeld at a similar price range that take a greater pride in delivering a guest experience.

For more detail:
There was no one to greet us at the reception desk, and no one came even after we rang the bell. The person who eventually came seemed surprised that there were guests checking in. I concede that we were early and had come in to inquire if it was possible to check in early, but usually there is someone at the desk to help in those situations, whereas here, it seemed like they were understaffed or unprepared.

Although it was clean, our room smelled strongly of some kind of cleaner. My travelling companion is highly sensitive to synthetic scents and had a strong reaction to the cleaner. Even after leaving the window open for a couple of hours, the scent never disappeared and it caused my companion to have difficulty sleeping. Obviously this is unique to our circumstances, but I appreciate when a hotel recognises that some people react strongly to artificial scents and takes care to use more neutral products.

The pillows were thin and the throws were not actual blankets: not problematic, but indicative that this hotel is concerned with cost-saving. The lightbulbs in the room were noticeably over-bright, harsh and cold; again, maybe not something everyone would notice, but indicative that the proprietors are thinking about cost and saving where they can, so they aren't making choices that bring the guest's experience into consideration.

There are many people who will not be bothered by these kinds of details, and for them, this is probably a fine place to stay.

Cleanliness (lack of), size of room and bed for two adults, bedding (not warm) bathroom mouldy shower.

The property is shabby, not clean (hairs from someone else in the bathroom), mold in the shower, cold at night and VERY small for two adults.

Staff seemed a bit indifferent but this may be down to ability to speak English.

The rooms were tired, although comfortable. The restaurant was ok and the staff were ok.

Check in and out could have been better. No staff.
Shower could have been better. Was only ok

I didn't like the position of the room, shower square box not very good. Okay

Arrived key left on desk got put in 201 the staff condition above had a party at 12 till 4 am screaming banging couldn’t ask anyone so had to knock myself done nothing with my young daughter there
Cob webs window tv dosent work and was disgusting !!
No night porter place had people coming in and out all night
Never would anyone stay there it shocking no response from
Manager or head office

Car park was small very unaccisible

Room was on third floor no lift so carrying out old dog to the very top off a hotel was very hard plus carting luggage only to get in room and kettle didn't work.

I was in the annex which had very poor wi fi connection and only 2 tv channels seem to connect. Also, there was a bad smell on occasions from the drains. Worst thing was that the shower door was just leaning up against another shower panel and started to fall when I touched it. I had to use my already injured arm (I have a splint on my wrist) to stop it falling and breaking against the tiled wall and it has pulled muscles and made injuries worse for me.
The room should not have been let with the dangerous shower and one wonders why it was! I left in the morning and didn’t complain because I thought the hotel would already know, since the cleaning staff had left it that way, but I am angry. I won’t be returning.
Also, although dogs are allowed in the room there was a note that they weren’t allowed in the restaurant so I would not be able to stay for a breakfast.
