The loft room was unusual as the shower was on one side of the room and the hand basin was on the other
Lovely historic villa, interesting to see all the old decor, rooms and main building part-museum/part historic stay. This suits history and vintage enthusiasts.
Breakfast was exceptional, plenty of choice, wonderful fresh local produce and wide selection for a continental breakfast, even heaps of fresh fruit and berries.
Beautifully landscaped gardens, plenty of flowers, waterfowl and birds to watch. Old abandoned factory right across the fence - too bad entry if prohibited, it would have been great to explore it!!
Room was large, but I didn't like the historic vibe of the place, hence originally booked one of their newer apartments at the back, but got changed to a historic room, which I wasn't a fan of at all. Bed was super-hard, "spa" didn't work.
Location is 1 min off the main road, 2 min drive to town centre, a little longer if walking.
I specifically booked one of the self-contained newer apartments that are at the back of the property and are a new building, and have a kitchen and microwave facilities, which was convenient for us bringing our own food. Upon checking-in we were told we got "upgraded" to a "suite with spa bath", which I didn't quite understand and thought it was just a larger apartment, but instead it was a hotel room in the annex building - historic headmaster suite (which I wasn't really keen on, hence booking the new apartment). By the time we drove off from reception, parked and checkout out the room, the receptionist left for the day and we had no way to change and had to stay where we had been placed. On top of having to go out for dinner as we had no way to heat or cook our own food, the spa bath didn't work and the note on the bath was just topping the joke: "We're sorry, the spa jets don't work, but you're still welcome to use the spa as a bath." Really?? Definitely disappointed as it was more of a downgrade, than upgrade. Will never accept an "upgrade" again after this experience before I view the room first.
Bed was so horribly hard, I had to put all the blankets I could find in the room under to get somewhat comfortable.
Location, while not far, if you wanted to walk to the town centre it's 15-20 mins. Plus if you are walking at night, it's a bit dark and uncomfortable. Right next to the train tracks and heaps of train traffic through the night, quite loud, got woken up by the trains passing several times.

The only thing I would recommend is moving the television in the attic room. The TV is obscured by the bedhead if you are trying to watch whilst in bed. Other than the place was great. Would stay there again.
The grounds were delightful. We did not see any staff during our stay. The breakfast options were perfect.

I locked myself out of my room. Rang the after hours # 4x. No answer. Fortunately the manager saw me at 1130pm in the lounge area & kindly let me into my room.
Although it was my mistake initially, it seems that there is no point in having an after hours/emergency #, if it isn't answered!
Rooms were nice and large and dog friendly.

This historic hotel is set in lovely gardens that are easy to walk around. The hotel itself is beautifully restored and the rooms and large and comfortable. There is a historic walk you can do that gives you a self guided tour throughout the house, which is very interesting and worth doing. The included continental breakfast was excellent and plentiful. We loved our stay here.

Strange feeling to not see many staff or other guests in such a big place, breakfast was average
Breakfast was ok, nothing special. The atmosphere the historic inn gave was comforting and the surroundings provided a peaceful at home feeling. We liked the grounds which we were able to walk around and enjoy the lovely peace and quiet. The treat of course was the underground cellar tour.
