Amazing, quite unique, hotel floating in the middle of a lake with snow capped mountains in the backdrop, picture perfect. BUT that's it. There's really nothing else to do here, as you rely on food SOLEly provided by the hotel and there's no other external sources for food being so remote and the portions are small so pack some snacks, instant noodles. Aims for some fine dining vibe, but the quality is sub-par, may be due to meals being included in the price. The food alone would convince you not to stay any longer. The whole dining system is uncomfortable, you may need to share a table with other guests. You can request to be seated by yourselves but this isn't explicitly offered and it seemed those were limited, and issues the way you get seated, the better seats by the window with the view vs the dull wall, staff guide you to your table and there was a complaint raised by someone on just that issue at the dining hall, very uncomfortable. We were also looking forward to some bike riding but the roads have so many pot holes it was a dreadful ride in even in a car, you're not going out on bikes, not if you're after a pleasant peaceful ride. Same goes for the drive down from Launceston, the road going over the mountain is horrendous, avoid it and go around the lake, that's quite a pleasant drive which we took on the return. Again the place is just amazing, something out of a story book, so definitely one to check off on your bucket list.
Basic things that were neglected or done poorly
1) no pre check in email was received resulting in us being stuck outside the property as we were not informed of the access code to gain entry into the property. Imagine being caught in a situation when you had 4 cars backed up behind you and you couldn’t get in - enough said
2) no air conditioning in the rooms and the windows can’t be open. Rooms are hot, stuffy and poorly ventilated- would have been helpful to have that piece on information on their website so that we could have made a better informed decision in terms of booking
3) their complimentary larder - is really complimentary - the items provided eg meats, soft cheese, dips etc all were close to their expiry dates eg 3 days away ie it would have had to be thrown out anyway if it was not eaten. Truly complimentary indeed. Clearly some cost savings here by management
4) Wi-Fi password was not readily available - had to call reception to gain access
5) their honesty bar leaves much to be desired. When I checked out, I found out that they had billed me for 2 bottles of sparkling water which we had not taken from the bar but probably written down by another guest who got the rooms number wrong
Things done well
1) the property is really lovely with great views
2) the on site service is actually quite good
Overall we won’t stay again because of point 1-4. Wasn’t worth the price paid
