Unfortunately, the experience was affected by the lack of cleanliness. The room was not cleaned at all during my 6-day stay. I understand that housekeeping is provided once a week, which basically means after 7 days—but for a shorter stay, this is completely insufficient. Although there was a small broom in the room, it’s not realistic to handle the cleaning yourself.

In addition, the price paid is not justified for the services provided. If I had known these details in advance, I would not have chosen this location.

After spending a second night at this property (for the change in the schedule of the open day at university of my daughter), my initial disappointment was sadly reinforced. The hotel’s design and location remain appealing, but the management’s attitude continues to cast a shadow over the stay.
When circumstances forced us to request a date adjustment — due to a change in my daughter’s university schedule — the manager insisted on lecturing us about the “nonrefundable” booking terms. It was a surprisingly condescending exchange, especially since I’m an experienced Booking.com customer well aware of those conditions. We weren’t asking to cancel, only to swap dates with another reservation already made within the same booking framework.
Another Amsterdam hotel had no trouble accepting the same kind of change with grace and understanding, but here, empathy seemed nonexistent. Even Booking.com’s intervention didn’t help — the property stood behind its rigid interpretation of rules and “legalities.”
The lack of warmth and dialogue was disappointing, transforming what could have been a pleasant stay into a frustrating experience. As the second night ended, the feeling remained that hospitality was not the priority — procedure was.

What's not to like about COVE. Only thing I was missing was a treadmill in the gym. But other then that no complaints.

However, our experience was disappointing due to the management’s total lack of flexibility and commercial understanding. We had to change our dates because of a university schedule change, and while another Amsterdam hotel kindly accommodated us despite restrictive booking terms, this property refused any adjustment, citing “legal conditions” rather than showing the slightest empathy or willingness to help.
The result was two overlapping reservations and unnecessary expense. Communication with the staff was cold and dismissive, leaving a very negative impression. For a property of this standing, we expected professionalism and a human touch — not rigid policies and disregard for guests. Sadly, this experience overshadowed the otherwise good location and design.

Oddly there was a continuous aroma of cigarette smoke in the wc - which was strange given the smoking ban throughout the building. We did raise this with staff but did not receive any explanation. This was not a major issue but is worth investigating further perhaps?
