A hidden Gem
Thank you to the wonderful team at Ocean Villa Heights. This hotel is truly a hidden gem, as a frequent traveller it is rare to find a hotel that is small and friendly but still offers great service. The food was fabulous with a substantial varied breakfast with home made cakes and cooked breakfast alongside the usual buffet style seen at most hotels The chefs have mastered the art of combining African and European cuisine and the food was so good that I had to invite my friends along to try it for themselves The hotel is spotless with all of the facilities you need for a relaxed and comfortable stay. Just down from the hotel is a pristine beach a real beach bums paradise with a variety of bars (I still have many to explore!) But the best and most important things to mention is the staff, nothing was too much trouble and too many names to mention but their professional attitude and the warm welcome that they gave me has made sure that I will be returning to Ocean Villa Heights very soon
I only liked where the hotel was located and it was easy to get to the beach. The two office manager were professional and polite along with one of the mangers wife. The ginger juice in the morning was the best thing to drink, otherwise there was not much to like. The outside grounds was good for yoga in the mornings. Its not a place to spend your time there if you wanted to chill.
Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing due to poor management, unprofessional staff, and overall lack of care for guests.
The Director, Paula, appeared to be motivated purely by money and showed little concern for paying customers. Any complaints were brushed off and passed to the office manager. She also regularly walked her dog through the restaurant area, which was unhygienic and inappropriate. Staff seemed overly deferential to her rather than focused on guest service.
The chef was extremely unprofessional and aggressive. When I asked for my burnt breakfast to be re-cooked, he became hostile, shouting and pointing his finger directly in my face. His behavior was threatening and completely unacceptable. We reported the incident, but no disciplinary action was taken. As a result, we did not feel safe eating food prepared by him and requested that someone else cook our meals. No guest should ever be treated this way.
Food quality overall was poor—bland, badly prepared, and lacking care. It was honestly better to eat outside the hotel.
Housekeeping was also a major issue. Staff frequently ignored requests for basic items such as towels or proper room cleaning. Our room was not swept or mopped properly, and we had to repeatedly ask for it to be cleaned. The bed was uncomfortable, with springs clearly felt through the mattress. Pillows were filthy and should be replaced.
The hotel often ran out of towels, and the beach towels provided were old, stained, and unhygienic. They should have been discarded long ago. We were also promised complimentary coconuts that were clearly available on the property, but after asking, none were ever brought to us.
The reception area is outdated and run-down. Chairs are old, covers are worn, and the space looks tacky rather than welcoming. The property does not match the photos advertised online, which is misleading.

It is a little old, but newly painted and clean.
AC and hot shower worked perfect.
Beach approximity is great. Fun, BIG waves. You don’t swim but tumble (not for small children). Hardly any people at the beach or at the hotel’s pool which is also kept very clean. But plenty of beach bars/cafes. And beautiful sunsets.
Hardly any bugs, but there is also no humidity as such in February. We enjoyed the balcony with ocean view during siestas.
Paula, Bibi and the rest of the staff were so kind and helpful with tours, use of paypal and late check out. Despite the small size of the hotel, the kitchen was open all day till 9 pm, with a rather large menu card.
It is not 5 European standard stars, but definitely 5 African stars. I loved our stay and highly recommend it to anyone.
It is a bit far from main street with ATMs (which may not work anyway) and super markets (approx 1 km). Other shopping is even further away. We liked the hazzle free holiday and didn’t come for the shopping, so to us it wasn’t important.
The hall way is very big and does not absorb the sound of occasional slamming doors. Because of the little number of rooms this was not a problem to us.
Very good value for money! Friendly and attentive staff, clean, good restaurant, nice pool and location near to nice beach. We like to come back.

De ligging was heerlijk, weg van het massatoerisme maar als je daarheen wilt ben je er zo. Het stuk naar het strand viel ook mee, alleen eind van de dag de 75 tredes weer op inclusief kinderen en spullen was een workout. Op het strand is een geweldige beachclub.
Het personeel was heel erg vriendelijk, de chef deed iedere ochtend zijn best en met alle werknemers van keuken, bar, beveiliging tot schoonmakers waren uiterst vriendelijk. Wij voelde ons onwijs thuis.
Het is een accommodatie met niet heel veel kamers, maar juist dat maakte het huiselijk. Wij hadden als we ‘s avonds nog wat zaten te borrelen of biljarten soms het gevoel alsof we het voor onszelf hadden.
De schoonmaak was goed en het eten ook. Ruime keuze op het menu van het restaurant.
Wij zullen zeker terugkeren!
Het is een grote ruimte waardoor het kan gaan galmen. Wij hebben kleine kinderen dus kan mij voorstellen dat het voor anderen dan gehorig kan worden.

Regards breakfast and food in general, Mr T and Sonya were fantastic cooks who prepared a lovely continental spread for us daily. They also offer cooked breakfasts as well. Furthermore the times of finishing breakfast dont really apply and they will continue to cook way past this time. Mr T's scrambled eggs were some of the best I have eaten.
The evening meals were out of this world cooked to order and taste wise you could ask for more. Again the staff went out of their way to accomodate our requests.
Accomodation was superb, location again superb.
I also have to mention the other staff here. Mr Bibi, Amal, Nday and Caba. They are a fantastic team and made our stay super special.
Paula the manager/Director of the place is also super friendly and runs a very tight ship.
We will be returning here without doubt that yet again we will experience the most friendliest of welcome and most enjoyable stay.
There was nothing we didnt like.....this was the perfect location for our 2 week stay in the Gambia.

I loved the breakfast options and that everything else you asked for was freshly made. Great chefs in the kitchen for sure and amazing staff members! It's a great location near the beach and great people.
