Much better than expected.
Pros:

Stayed recently at the Alp Hotel Masella and I was pleasantly surprised by it's quality. After having read the other reviews which are quite unfair, I had extremely low expectations. The Rooms are nice featuring a modern design, comfy beds, lots of lights, sockets, a TV, large wardrobe and a modern and spacious bathroom. Housekeeping was good and always replaced the towels etc etc. The food was overall good but a bit beige at times. It is carbohydrate heavy so will certainly give you the necessary energy for skiing and there is something for everyone. The entertainment is very good, the reps speak good English and try their hardest to get everyone involved. The lounge was good with comfy sofas, a fire, pool tables and table football, and a bar which was surprisingly good value for example only €3.00 for 500ml of coke which is good considering the location and all ice creams are €2.50. The staff are also friendly and good English speakers. Overall, I had a thoroughly pleasant stay in the Alp Hotel Masella and I would certainly come again. The bad reviews seem very unfair.

Pros:

Very bad
Pros:

Extremely bad food. Frozen warmed up. Bed size 135 cm. Full of adolescents, approx 300. Spa and facilities not able to use, all full to overflowing with adolescent boys. Parties in the floor above our room until 3am. It would have been a moral and ethical gesture on the part of the hotel to inform us thus giving us the option to cancel. We booked 6 days before arrival, the hotel would have known about the school parties booked in.

Pros:

Decent for one or two nights - family oriented hotel
Pros:

The only hotel in Masella itself.. so not much choice. Very convenient location. The staff is very kind and helpful, speaks several languages. But the hotel is quite hold and would need renovation. Outdated pool area, sofas in the lounge are quite old and dirty, rooms are very noisy. Don't consider it as a lovely hotel stay - just as accommodation for your ski week-end and then it's fine. We enjoyed the bar, talking to staff, kids have a lot to do so great for family. Ok buffets for food, good for kids, less for adults. Wifi poor in the rooms.

Not worth it
Pros:

The hotel is horrible. The rooms are dark, the bed is like sleeping on a rock and to top it off it was two twin beds put together. The restaurant is bad cafeteria food. Cold food, some looks like it has been reheated multiple times. The salad looked wilted. There is really nothing to recommend this hotel. Go elsewhere! Quality vs price this hotel is way overpriced!

Perfect for a school ski trip.
Pros:

Back to the Alp hotel after 5 years and it was as good as ever, fourth time staying there. Perfect for a school party. So close to the slopes and ski lockers. Rooms are average size with family rooms and twins, some have a balcony and some pairs of rooms share a lounge area. There is a massive bar area with games and a stage, 'animations' are put on every evening to entertain the pupils, including a disco in the basement. There is a pool but I've never used it. The wifi is free and works well considering that hundreds of people are trying to all access it at the same time! The lifts work fine as long as you don't over load them! The food in plentiful, hot and there is always a range of dishes to choose from, the range of vegetarian dishes has improved and they even attempted to help pupils requiring halal.Considering there were at least 10 schools staying the noise level was bearable. Teenagers are not always quick to settle at night! If you don't want noise avoid half term holidays!

Family ski trip
Pros:

We stayed a long weekend, for a family ski trip. The hotel is 100m from ghe slopes, excellent location. The rooms were average at best, beds are not comfortable. We expected small rooms in this 3 star hotel, and they are small for a family with to young kids. That was ok, but the batbroom was subpar. Housekeeping much too late and not a good job.
I didn't lij
ke that checking in was after 4pm. And when we got there then reception staff was not friendly.
Best thing was the restaurant. Decent buffet for all three meals. Restaurant staff was attentive.
Activities for kids are great and the pool is nice.
Great place for kids.

Very tedious.
Pros:

I went with my friends on a school trip skiing in the Catalan Pyrenees. We knew it was a 3 star hotel so we weren't expecting much but it really did disappoint. I will be positive and mention the fantastic location of the hotel being a stone's throw away from the slopes and equipment so actually getting to the slopes was not a problem.

The hotel is quite big with a smelly lobby and only has 3 tiny lifts that often broke down meaning we had to resort to walking up 3 flights of stairs carrying heavy bags and ski boots was not enjoyable but we didn't have any other choice.

The rooms are very small, clean and basic but comfortable, and being on the third floor meant we had a fantastic view of the mountains! At night it was beautiful as the fuzzy orange lights of the close surrounding French villages was breath-taking and almost made up for the cramped rooms and NO DUVETS. Providing us with a terrible sleep and back ache most of the time. Some rooms had bunk beds with very thin and very tall ladders that were almost impossible to get up and down and stabbed you in the stomach. I even had to jump off the top bunk to get down.

The cleaners didn't even change the pillows very often and just misplaced everything causing havoc along my peers xD

The toilets got blocked with a single sheet of toilet roll and the flush which would not flush anything down unless you held it down for 30 seconds making the most horrific noise and waking up the whole of Masella.

Food was also very boring as it was the same everyday with not much variety. Being a vegetarian, food was restricted and I survived on bread rolls, pasta, and chips for the week. I can safely say I do not possess much interest in chips for the time being. Salt made my meals edible!

The wifi was just awful and did not connect at all, and stated that the password was incorrect straight way even though the hotel said it was the correct password which made everyone on my trip quite frustrated. The hotel staff were very polite and shout out to Josep Maria!

The bar was very big with lots of food which was good, a little on the expensive side, but this was expected.

Good for a weekend away maybe, but nothing more and would not visit again. But a very memorable experience :)

Really good family stay
Pros:

This year we got a bigger room for the four of us, and the increase in space really got us to a better holidays. Our kids were really fascinated with the surroundings and the swimming pools. Another good holiday in the catalan pyrenees!

Worst hotel ever - but great location
Pros:

We stayed here with some friends who made the arrangement and we new it was only 3 stars i.e. not luxury. and we had seen the pictures on the website so we expected something basic but functional.
We were so disappointed!
This hotel is worn down, noisy and the food is horrendous. The rooms are small and dark - and all rooms on the 1st floor have either the noise from the kitchen or the bar/play room all evening and from early morning.
We booked early and our friend were promised rooms on the 4th floor - however upon arrival we had been moved to the 1st floor. Probably because somebody else complained.
After 3 days of intensive complaining and finally talking to the manager we got moved to a room on the 4th floor, which was okay.
So if you love hearing anyone on your pipes flush, dark worn down rooms without ambience, noisy overcooked meals and zero service at reception this is your place!
In all fairness I must state that the location right at the bottom of the slopes is superb. But for this price we would definately book an appartment and sleep at night.

Perfect to Sking in Masella
Pros:

The room was clean. The Hotel is very noisy do not expect to be able to sleep until 12 pm. The meals were nice for a three star. The personnel was cordial and helpful. The big advantage is the location if you want to ski in la masella the Hotel is really in a walking distance to the slopes.

Noisy but perfect ski location
Pros:

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst skiing in masella. The hotel is a few mins walk from the chairlifts. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean but basic. Hotel was noisy due to 4 school groups staying. We knew this in advance so were not bothered - it was English schools half term week. Food was fine, good buffet choice. Same for wine choice. You can have drinks in the bar area where there is also wifi. We parked right outside. We'll stay again but if you're after a calm quiet hotel check there are no school bookings first!

very loud but fun for children
Pros:

We stayed in Alp hotel for 5 days. Children enjoyed it immensely because of a programme for them every evening: a film, games with monitors, various activities and contests, a disco, etc. This is a hotel always busy with school skiing groups, therefore it is very loud and full of uproar.
Our room had a double bed and a bunk bed for kids. Meal (3 x day) was all right. There is a sauna and a swimming pool to use after a "hard" skying day :) The slopes are next to the hotel - the best thing for a beginner.
