Cozy and beautiful hotel.
Pros:

Love the look of the building and the vintage-esque appeal. Budget room was cozy and simple. Coffee and tea and a small milk is complimentary. Standing heater supplied.

Cons:

Window had issues. There was a fly screen but no actual glass protecting the person staying in the room. The lack of glass shielding the window, and only having a thin screen, isn’t safe practice. It also prevented privacy from those walking past the hotel, and allowed for us to hear those talking outside too. Would probably spend the extra $$$ to stay in the spa room next time.

Cons:

When you book a room that said it had two beds and it has one bed and a sofa bed but linen supplied for the sofa bed. So you have to sleep on the couch with no blankets very poor

Weekend Away
Pros:

Great Location,
Great view from hotel
Double Bed comfortable
Staff friendly
Downside:
Room was very dusty & tired
Hole in wall above the window had just been covered with tape.
Dissappointed that although advertised on both their website, list in room & booking.com that there was awesome food in their Resteraunt, when we arrived we were told the Resteraunt had permanently closed in May 2026, 3 months prior to our trip.

Pros:

I booked this venue, due to its location.
Hotel is over 120 year old, and has a rustic charm.
Off street parking.
Lovey view of the bay from the window.
Double bed was comfortable.
Close proximity to the Cockle Train Station

Cons:

Lack of food at the property, although as of August 2026 this is still advertised on this site and their website.
On arrival Reception staff advised the Cafe/Restaurant closed in May 2026
The advert on booking.com and the venue website is out of date.
Still states:
"The Anchorage Café menu features hearty soups, seafood and pizzas. The Wine Bar offers a range of beers and local wines from the McLaren Vale and surrounding wine regions. Restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday"
As does their website
When we arrived we were greeted with a large sign at the entrance to say the Restaurant was permanently closed

Room was tired and dusty.
No internet or room service available.
