The JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa is, without question, one of the most stunning properties in the entire Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. From the moment you arrive by boat, the experience feels special and sets the tone for an unforgettable stay.
A huge thank you to Mattia Bassetti, who went above and beyond throughout our five-night stay. His professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail ensured our family had everything we needed from start to finish.
One of the things we love most about this property is how easy it is to enjoy Venice while still escaping the crowds. The complimentary ferry service made getting to and from Piazza San Marco effortless, with late-night service running until 12:30 AM.
Traveling with children can sometimes be challenging, but the Kids Club team was absolutely incredible. Our two children, ages 10 and 8, genuinely looked forward to spending time there each day. The variety of indoor and outdoor activities kept them engaged, entertained, and excited to return.
The rooftop bar and restaurant are spectacular, offering breathtaking views that alone are worth the visit. Whether enjoying a cocktail at sunset or simply taking in the scenery, it’s one of those places you won’t forget.
This was our second stay at the JW Marriott Venice, and it only reinforced why it has become our go-to hotel whenever we visit Venice. Exceptional service, world-class amenities, family-friendly programming, and an unforgettable setting make this property truly special. Five stars without hesitation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We stayed here four nights as a family of three before our cruise, and it was an excellent choice from start to finish. The resort sits on its own private island, so the ambience is quiet, serene, and a world away from the bustle of Venice itself. After busy travel days, coming back to that calm was exactly what we needed.
We stayed in one of the retreat-style villas off the main hotel, and I'd highly recommend going that route — it added an extra layer of privacy and relaxation to an already peaceful setting. The grounds, the service, and the food were all top-notch.
A few highlights: The shuttle into Venice ran every half hour, which made it effortless to come and go and see the city on our own schedule. There were two pools — an adults-only pool on the rooftop and a family pool on the grounds — perfect for traveling with our daughter. And the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout the resort.
Two small things kept it from being flawless, both housekeeping-related. The washcloths in our room weren't replenished after the first couple of days — we got fresh towels daily, but despite asking our housekeeper more than once, the small bath cloths never came (possibly a language barrier on our end). The Keurig coffee pods and coffee cups also went a couple of days without being restocked. We raised it all with the concierge on departure. Minor stuff for an otherwise outstanding stay, but worth noting for a property at this level.
Overall, a wonderful, relaxing stay and a fantastic home base for visiting Venice with family. We couldn't have made a better choice.
On its own private island, a 15 minute boat ride from St Mark’s Venice. We loved being able to very easily pop in and out of the hustle and bustle of Venice. While Venice is stunningly beautiful, the island is a relief from the heat of Venice. It has a breezy, garden feel which we appreciated so much. Would recommend rooms out of the main building. The staff we very attentive. Particularly Raphael on concierge who could!mr have been more helpful with restaurant suggestions and booking tables.
The shuttle runs very smoothly and on time, it the staff are not Marriott and it shows.
room was beautiful, breakfast buffet delicious, grounds beautiful, water taxi easy (every 30min basically 8a-MN both ways), check-in easy. no complaints except we arrived a day late due to flight cancellation and they would not credit us (nonrefundable prepaid) which was a bummer.

We loved the distance from the chaos, the peace and beauty on the island and the staff’s professionalism!
It is quite expensive, making it difficult for us to come back.
This hotel is disappointing. No, I need to change that. Very disappointing. In such a venerable city of such magnificence and beauty as Venice, lies the worst possible American-style motel, with all the shortcomings of a Maga hillbilly resort, with zero charm and even less panache than a giant undercooked cheeseburger..the gateway promised much, as we approached from a launch from Marco Polo Airport. The journey through Venice was be-witching, past the Cipriani, a proper hotel, onto this Guantamino bay resort, with faded decadence and overpriced poor service. The hotel resembles a giant prison camp, the rooms are comfortable, no doubt, but the corridors resemble something from Jack Nicolson's The Shinning, with plain carpet. The bar was empty and the grounds entirely soulless. The roof top restaurant, well, where do I begin? The tables are in sun, with no shade. The staff, obviously on minimum wage, are unmanaged and helpless. Service is appalling, it took 30 minutes to get the water we ordered. The wine was unchilled, the specials off the menu and no bread arrived. The main course was passable, but the Tiramasu was awful. They charged a cover charge of €16, which when I challenged it, was informed it was a local tax. Utter BS. The staff were not mqnaged by experienced people and it showed. No discernable failings but just a horrible panoply of bad service, shrugged shoulders and bland food. For Italy, the home of culminary delights, this was just really disappointing. Maybe it is the American influence..managing to undermine Venetian beauty with a water tower and other carbunkles of American origin. To be sure, the patrons are 100% American, blissfully engorging on American beer and burgers..some more adventurous even trying local wine and pasta..with some aplomb. DInner cost €170 which wouldn't have been an issue if we could give it 4 out of 10. I'm afraid, for non American travellers, avoid like the plague unless you particularily want to relive nights by the fireside in Indiana with a chicken McNugget meal. This hotel is not as advertised. In a city of ancient antiquity and art, this ugly ediface needs a cultural uplift, some proper Italian- orientated manegement and some basic lessons in hospitality. Come here to be disappointed. Better still, pick somewhere else to stay
this is one of the most luxurious properties on the planet. It is 10 star with the most incredible employees.. The facility is absolutely gorgeous and the service is ten star. The breakfast spread is incredible and worth every penny.. The grounds are impeccably maintained and spectacular. Go go go. we can’t wait to come again.
Incredibly beautiful and luxurious! Loved free water shuttle. The staff was very attentive and helpful!
Loved breakfast buffet selections and quality! Service impeccable.
The ceiling leak and wet floor in our hallway. Food in restaurant was average.
This resort was really bad. We had an "upgraded deluxe room that had stained furniture and dirty carpet. Huge bush blocking the window - no outside light at all. The rooftop bar had all new hires as well as the restaurants. The drinks and food were below expectations. The indoor restaurant had new hires also had a mediocre dinner for $175 Euros. The interior is cold and dirty - the indoor retail stores had nothing anyone would want to buy. If the rooms are dirty the spas are dirty - bypassed the spa which we were wanting to spend a lot of money at. No one would stay here if there was no complimentary water taxi - doesn't matter the captains of the water taxis were all nasty. This is rated as a 5 Star resort - I give it a 2. Stay in Venice.
Do not stay here. It is for weddings and conferences.
My family and I stayed for a couple of nights last week, after leaving the Gritti (which is beyond superb).
It’s an odd place. Looks like a prison when you’re inside it. The breakfast room is like the business class lounge at an airport. It’s sprawling over an island but with little view of the sea.
We asked if we could arrive early and have an upgrade. We are Marriott Ambassador tier. The answer was no to both. So we tipped up at the appointed time. Again, the communal areas look like an airport lounge. The main building is dark and frightening and odd.
And also hosting 300 people (literally) for a three day wedding. The entire place was overrun. The room to which we were shown had thumping music playing from the roof terrace above. The party had taken 148 rooms and brought in 10 of their own chefs. They owned the place.
We kicked off, and eventually they moved us to a very nice suite away from the party. But the next day the wedding party descended on the space in front of us. We couldn’t stay in the room. We couldn’t stay anywhere. The absolutely delightful manager did his best, but he couldn’t cancel the wedding…
Dinner at the rooftop restaurant. Beautiful place, lovely staff, good enough food. €400 for pasta for four, two martinis and a bottle of wine. Ridiculous. The Gritti was the same price and it’s one of the finest hotels in the world.
Again, the delightful manager did his best. But we were by a pool with no view at all and with endless music and crowds marching past. Drones flying over us over dinner. A request for some sort of refund was met with a flat refusal. It’s just a money making machine.
It’s a shame because there’s potential for a great holiday here.
This place could be interesting and enjoyable. It isn’t. I feel sorry for the charming staff who are at the whims of head office. Avoid.
This hotel is beautiful. I cannot say enough good things. Venice is a lovely city, but when you want to be away from the tourist crowds, the JW is the perfect escape. Peaceful, beautifully landscaped, priceless views, clean and well taken care of. Couples, weddings, family holidays; this place can do it all. You can smell the rose gardens from anywhere on the island. Walking paths, quiet places to sit or picnic, spa, gym, roof top pool for adult only relaxation, rooftop restaurant, family pool with food and bar service...
Side note -the family pool was quite and well maintained with plenty of sun or shade lounge chairs. Staff here engaged with the children as needed and provided tennis / pickleball rackets and other games to the children to play in a safe space. Also next to this area is an outdoor theater set up with plenty of comfortable seating. Bring your children here! There is plenty of space for them to roam and enjoy making new friends.
This hotels staff provided fantastic customer service from check in to departure. You just need to go. The complimentary water taxi to / from the hotel to San Marco pier makes getting to Venice so easy. We booked two rooms, one for us parents, the other for our children. Our rooms next to each other, spacious and the bathrooms were very nice. My children range in age. Having a separate shower and bathtub made getting the kids cleaned up for bed so much more convenient. I loved this hotel. The setting was perfect for our trip to this incredible city. I will miss it. Book this hotel. You will not regret it. It was perfect for us. Thank you JW Marriott!
