One person running the hotel , this hotel may have been nice 50 years ago , it’s outdated, the shower didn’t work , I couldn’t stay the three nights I paid for , way overpriced. I will not be staying there again .
We knew the hotel would be very old and thought it would be an experience. We were disappointed that the room was dirty. The floor was so dirty that my white socks were black on the bottom after walking around in the room without my shoes on. The bedside table was sticky and had rings from the previous guest's drinks. The bathroom floor was also dirty. We were upgraded to a suite which was nice but the window air conditioner in the bedroom part did not work well and we were pretty uncomfortable on a warm summer night.
The hotel was in disrepair. The toilet was not clean. The location however was perfect for our needs.
My stay was very disappointing. Floors were buckled. Couch was dirty. Sheets had brown stains. Breakfast was boxed donuts that were day old or more. No coffee. Milk was sitting on counter all morning. Glass tables in dining area had food smudges all over.
Family came in from out of town. Room was upgraded due to lost reservation. Overall nice room. Only negative was used bandaid left behind.
This is an inexpensive place to stay in a historic hotel. What it lacks in modern amenities it makes up for in character. It is in the midst of a historic downtown. The manager was hard contact, he left the key on the desk and didn’t respond quickly to a call to explain it. If you had needed any help, it was not there.
Unlikely to stay again. Unfortunately, downtown Chanute with charming historic buildings, doesn't have the enough draw to sustain it. Many empty historically significant buildings for sale. Included in the structures for sale is The Nest. 3 years ago it showed promise, but now it seems to be quickly running down into just another direlect hotel. It is clear the owner has lost interest in it. If you like historic buildings, stay here for the night, but don't expect much outside of the lobby. No amenities and ghost service. It could thrive if the downtown could be revived but I'm doubtful.
Forget about using WiFi. It was workable my first two stays but was pathetic this time. I had to use my phone as a Hotspot to get some work done.
The history of this hotel makes it unique and worth the stay. For half the price of most budget hotels this hotel accommodations exceeds the budget hotels in the area.
The place is older, but had everything we need a bed and shower, this old hotel had character would stay again.
Inexpensive and neat place to stay
Old town building. Room cold. Ratty. Wouldn’t do it again.
Once you check in I never saw anyone again even when I left. Everything I needed was in my room so there really was no need of any assistance. I came & went as I needed. Their is No Breakfast available. They do have small coffee pots with a assortment of coffees to choose from. Also a microwave & small refrigerator which I didn’t use. Also vending machines with assortment of pop & one with a few chips in main lobby. I was traveling alone when I stayed there but they had posted in office they had security with cameras. My room was on the fourth floor which I felt perfectly safe. I’d stay there again!
No problems! Also there is a train track down the street that comes thru once in awhile which didn’t really bother me.
Rooms for big what could make the showers a little bigger it was smaller than our camper
I reserved a room 1 1/2 hours in advance and appreciate that H.com and The Nest accommodated the late booking. Last minute stay due to work demands. I've stayed here before so I knew what to expect. On my prior overnight, there was a breakfast and coffee available in the "breakfast area". I checked the site and breakfast has been removed from 'Amenities', but the photo of breakfast area is still up. Coffee pot in room with Folgers. I usually travel with French Press so bad hotel coffee doesn't normally bug me. Cord on pot too short to reach from top of fridge to outlet. Had to move pot to bedside table & unplug clock to make a cup of coffee. A carafe of coffee set out in the lobby around 5 or 6 am would be appreciated.
Hall and lobby hot but room was cooled adequately by window ac units. View of downtown out windows was not possible. These are original windows that haven't seen ammonia and a squeegee in years. Clean glass for the view would have been appreciated. Bed was comfortable, water pressure was good and water was hot.
WiFi very weak on 3rd floor At less than -80 dBM. WiFi signal should be mapped and boosters installed. I used my phone as a hotspot for my laptop in order to email and use the internet.
Area is safe, yet I understand how a woman traveling alone or someone staying for the 1st time could feel insecure in the unstaffed lobby.
I prefer unique, historic, quirky lodging and this is all 3. It is not boutique but bargain rates reflect that.
This is a truly beautiful, unique hotel! I have stayed at some of the other places in Chanute and have not been impressed. But honestly this experience was one of the most enjoyable hotel stays I've ever had in a small community. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable and the staff are so friendly! I'm going to recommend this place as a weekend retreat for my employer!
I had a bad experience at the new hotel out on the highway (wifi/filth/rude) so someone told me to try this place. The staff were really nice and the room was extremely clean. The bed was comfy and I loved being able to walk around downtown in the evening and grab a few drinks here and there without driving anywhere. This is a beautiful historic hotel with a lot of attention to detail. The room had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot with wood floors - none of that nasty carpet that you don't know if it is clean or not (everyone travels with pets these days!).
You never know what you are going to get with independent hotels but this place exceeded my expectations - they even have several laundry rooms that I was able to wash my clothes in at no charge, just bring your own detergent! The wifi was lightening fast and when I mentioned something the manager said they are on the city's fiber network which is 1GB - way cool!
I have just started being in Chanute once every week or two and this is DEFINITELY the place I will be staying!
The building is amazing and the stay was pleasant. We only saw someone in the office upon check in, the floor in our room needs to be cleaned. We confirmed with desk clerk that there was breakfast, which never happened which caused a little disappointment as that was why we decided on The Nest.
It is hard to rate as we did not stay because I did not feel safe. No one was at front desk when we got there.
They had cockroaches!! We moved hotels instantly!
