It was our first visit to Buckland Manor and we could not have been more pleased that we chose them to stay at Broadway for a couple of days. The staff -all of them- could not have been more welcoming and attentive. And they were all very cheerful and friendly and it makes a huge difference when you are staying somewhere for the first time. If we travel to that area again, we know where to stay.
Travelled an hour in the expectation of a Cotswold Sunday Lunch experience. What a let down.
Positives: lovely Hungarian waiter, charming to a fault. Nice selection of wines.
Negatives: blunt cutlery, tough pigeon, scarcely tepid cauliflower cheese & roast potatoes. You got the impression the chef didn’t much care.
Conclusion: won’t be returning in a hurry, if at all.
We enjoyed a very special tea by the fireside. The staff were friendly and attentive. A lovely experience on a winter's afternoon.
We have been visiting Buckland Manor for over thirty years. The hotel is lovely and comfortable.
We were very well looked after by the staff especially Sue, Sam, Anna and Sarah.
It is lovely to get to know the staff and reminisce about the great times we had when Nigel and Simon the previous managers were there.
We still love visiting as it is like coming home!
The breakfasts were lovely and the chef was very accommodating changing sauces as my husband has a garlic allergy.
Thank you and we hope to see you again next year.
Buckland Manor was just as magical on our second visit as it was on our first (back in 2017). Exceptional staff- all of them, outstanding service, and a truly beautiful setting made for another memorable stay.
At Christmas, the decor is simply stunning! You genuinely feel as though you’ve stepped into a living Christmas card. We loved spending time in the lounge with the fires roaring; it’s the perfect backdrop for a glass of wine and a relaxed evening meal.
Breakfast was delicious, and even the sandwiches and chips from the bar menu exceeded expectations.
There’s a timeless elegance about Buckland Manor that makes you want to return again and again.
A wonderful old manor on the edge of the Cotswold Hills. Its peaceful atmosphere is augmented by professional and friendly staff, excellent food, and all the comforts of an English country house. My husband and I have returned many times and are never disappointed.
We spent six nights at Buckland Manor, a beautifully preserved country house nestled just minutes from Broadway. Its location is ideal for exploring the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds, and Broadway itself—full of charming houses, excellent restaurants, and boutique shops—is a delight to visit.
At Buckland, we stayed in one of their two Master Rooms. Spacious and elegantly appointed, it featured a comfortable king-size bed and a luxurious bathroom with heated floors, a deep soaking tub, and a separate shower. The manor’s lounge areas were equally inviting, offering several cozy spots to relax, have a tea or coffee or simply unwind with a drink before dinner.
The on-site restaurant is very good, though the menu is fixed and doesn’t change throughout the week—a limitation if you’re staying for several days. Fortunately, Broadway’s many dining options are close by. On our final evening, the kitchen kindly prepared a special meal just for us, which was both thoughtful and delicious.
Breakfasts were à la carte and served at the table—consistently excellent. The manor itself is steeped in character, with antique furnishings and classic décor that evoke the timeless charm of the Cotswolds. The gardens are lovely and must be especially enjoyable for outdoor drinks or meals in warmer weather.
One seasonal quirk: during our stay, we noticed quite a few flies dying on the room floor—likely a result of the changing weather. It didn’t detract from the overall experience, but worth noting.
The staff were unfailingly kind and attentive, always ready to help with a smile.
All in all, it was a wonderful week. We wholeheartedly recommend Buckland Manor and would gladly return.
What a delightful hotel the staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and they do . The rooms are lovely and spacious and very very clean a credit to them.
The gardens delightful a joy to walk around .
Now for dinner well a fabulous chef interesting and delicious meal very well executed and breakfast a joy.
Beautiful surroundings but not much to do on site.
Very quiet and secluded.
Standard of food and service very good
Rooms however look and feel dated and require a refresh or at least better maintenance
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and greatly enjoyed our stay. The staff were tremendous and very helpful. We had a classic room which was very comfortable.
Our evening meal was lovely but don’t think it justified the £62 tag for 2 courses plus service. Nearby Broadway offered some good alternatives.
My fourth stay at Buckland Manor did not disappoint. Lovely accommodation with excellent shower. Service and public areas are great with excellent food and wine.
Overall our stay was enjoyable and the staff were very courteous at all times. Our room was comfortable and clean but there were areas, particularly in the bar area which were very dusty, in particularly under the table where the menus sat and the adjacent chair. There is not really a true bar area where we might have congregated with other guests and during the time we did sit there the “barman” only appeared briefly once! Breakfast was great but didn’t experience an evening meal as the menu had no appeal
lovely old house in stunning location etc BUT this hotel is completely let down by the food (and to a certain extent by indifferent service). Dinner at £85 for 3 small courses, with vegetables and potatoes charged extra!! No. The second night we ate in Broadway, excellent all round.
Breakfast OK except for the very small offerings of yogurt, cereal and my "fruit salad" was beyond a joke, just chopped up apple, one grape in orange juice. Truly dreadful and the waiter said nothing when I remarked on it.
This was not good value, drinks too are way overpriced, spirits and wine alike.
I cannot recommend much about this place.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a truly delightful visit to Buckland Manor. The staff were warm, attentive, and welcoming, which made us feel immediately at ease. The service was excellent throughout, and the food was absolutely outstanding — beautifully prepared and full of flavor. A wonderful experience all around!
My husband and I were greeted by a lovely staff when we arrived and took care of our every need. The room was very English and soft comfortable beds with a view of the back garden. The evening meal and breakfast in their dining room did not disappoint!-Sam was exceptionally kind and enthusiastic. She helped us with the out of the way address we were visiting the next day and we would not have made the luncheon without her assistance with the AA route.I would recommend this hotel for the future!-Peaceful and a Country House Hotel experience!
Buckland Manor was spectacular. The staff was amazingly helpful. They even helped us deal with a parking ticket we got in Oxford and arranged an spur of the moment tour of the gardens with the gardener Thomas which was informative and fun. The food was spectacular! Our room was lovely and included a huge bathroom. There are activities that you can choose in all seasons. Our son and friends stayed at Buckland over Thanksgiving and recommended it to us. They loved it and so did we. Dont miss this place!
Our third visit here in just under three years. First time was great, second was so-so. We gave them a chance for a third visit and oh my, shame on us. Figured the beautiful setting would be enough if we just ate at the restaurant once or twice for dinner instead of every night. Didn’t even get that far. Unpacked our bags and went to outdoor bar area for a drink as it was getting to late afternoon. Server ignored us for first 10 minutes despite walking right by us several times to tend to a small spattering of guests. Finally asked whether we wanted something and told him a bar menu. Went and got it for us five minutes later and then took our order another five minutes after that. All told, about 25 minutes to get a couple of lukewarm glasses of champagne. And with zero greeting, smiles, or anything to make us feel welcome at the hotel. Just a sour demeanor all around despite the hotel not having many guests.
Had our own bottle of champagne so decided to chill it and then take it out to enjoy in a back bench area of their expansive property where other guests could not see us as the rooms have no outdoor space of air conditioning. Was told we could not do that without paying a 45-pound corkage fee. Decided to go for a walk. Toured the property, which had deteriorated visibly since our prior stay, with the grass, plants and even some trees appearing dead or dying.
After returning, I went to our room to ready for dinner. My wife went to complain to active duty manager about the corkage fee, given the high price we were already paying for our room. Turns out he was the food and beverage manager. Suffice to say, he sat there grinning at her the entire time, citing hotel “policy” and not bothering to even get up from behind the chair he was leaning back on.
We promptly cancelled our dinner reservations, figuring our intro to restaurant staff was hardly a positive indicator of what a meal would be like. Had a great meal in town and decided we value our money too much to burn it on mediocrity. This hotel just feels off and unwelcoming and needs to spend a little money upgrading its grounds and interior rather than trying to squeeze every last drop out of guests. Informed the hotel the following morning we were leaving one night into our four-night stay.
Went to Foxhill Manor nearby instead and had a true first class, five star experience. It was like comparing an F-16 to a paper hand glider. Leaving Buckland early cost us more than we would have paid had we just kept our reservation. But life is too short to waste valuable vacation days on a place that is not invested in itself, let alone guests.
Advice to all. This place is tired. The staff appear tired. This is a misrepresented luxury hotel and not at all representative of the Relais & Chateau brand, which we patronize several times per year in various countries. Cut the room rate in half and maybe you can tough it out. But for nearly 800 pounds per night? Please.
We will always fondly remember our first trip here. Our last will always serve as a cautionary tale to go with our instincts.
Buckland manor is the quintessential English country house hotel. Not especially smart and some of the furnishings do not bear too close an inspection, but incredibly welcoming and comfortable. The sort of place one could easily settle down in for the winter. And the food is of a very high standard indeed - not ultra fancy just excellent ingredients very well cooked and presented. Also a well curated, sensibly priced wine list. I would very happily return.
Expensive hotel not justified by dinner at a basic price of £85.Handicap rooms have open shower.Staff excellent and helpful.
We had a wonderful stay, lovely hotel and grounds and the staff were very welcoming and considerate.
