What a shambles of a place , from checking in to beyond when we left it was one issue after another. Checked in and first receptionist (1) gave us totally the wrong room even based on thier booking system, got shown the lift but no information on anything else within the hotel .Got to the room which was wrong with no info on how to contact reception via phone (it was on the key card you have to put in the light switch so you never see it !) ,best guess number got through to receptionist (2) who then left us on hold for 2 mins ,came off hold to another (3), a somewhat rude lady who cleared didn't what to deal with this regardless what her colleague had told her thinking the option too just "push the beds together" was going to solve all the issues ,as this was not going to cover it they then decided they would come (at some inconvenience) with new keys to another room ,arriving after another wait was receptionist (4) like a rabbit In the headlights and not surprisingly no number 3 .By this point the new room was still not what was booked (walk in shower missing) but it had become clear the reception was out of its depth .Move on to the next morning at breakfast where we both had items from the hot (bearly) buffet given it had hardly been touched by the other 6 guests already seated only to extract a number of hairs from it .The service manager failed to show any interest in our polite requests to attend the table as they walked off in the opposite direction with selective hearing ,asking one of the waiting staff for his assistants this in tern ment the manager (?) had to show willing .If that didn't leave a big question about the basic hygiene standards then a few minutes later another waitress started to relay a table of four just vacated by three guests ,the remaining cutlery had never been removed at there seating (?) and was then left in place while the table was shown a damp cloth of questionable colour ,fresh cutlery was then placed never once being held or moved by its handle being left covered in finger marks . Moving on to later that day and requesting two drinks from the bar as we sat outside on the patio ,this had left the barman totally over loaded as he had to come and re-ask for the order because simply taking a writen note was so old school for a modern establishment. Returning to the room we found a token gesture from the management reflecting the breakfast standards which costs should already have been removed from the bill ,shame alcohol was not a great choice for some guests. The last morning of the two couldn't come fast enough, the service manager at breakfast was like a different person and more like you would have expected from day one ,not that there was any faith in the service on offer .Back to reception to check out ,no copy of bill and no help from them to why one was not available so paid on the understanding it would be emailed, after some reflection the total sum didn't add up so phoned within the hour to clarify the total was correct again phone answered by a curt dismissive person saying it would be look into and someone will get back to you and hung up ..... ,4hrs later email with bill showing adjusted cost because the breakfast had never been removed as promised. After all this the fact car parking was supposedly not reservable ,you drive in and there's signs to the opposite everywhere and the cost per night is questionable if you are a paying quest . The only thing this place has going for it is the location and the rooms are nicely serviced ,we couldn't even try the guided car tour because the app refused to work .... You make your choice and pay your money, this will not be a place getting any more of mine . Hopefully the corporate partner will see too the weak areas and make changes that reflect the expectations of thier marketing !, given this was a Monday > Tuesday stay when there was never more that 20 other guests in sight not very impressive is it ?.
Zane outstanding performance and service at Gonville Hotel. Zane is highly experienced and highly knowledgeable and we enjoyed every moment with Zane on tour in a beautiful Bentley. Thank you for making today so special and memorable.
The location was great, only a short walk from the city. The garden area looked nice but we weren’t able to use it as there was a private party. Breakfast was good. We had a massage at the beauty salon, which was fabulous. I spoke to the hotel a few times before staying to organise a few things and the lady I spoke to was great. Recommended restaurants and helped with organising trips so I had high hopes for the stay.
Unfortunately the team there seemed very inexperienced and completely overwhelmed by the amount of people there the weekend we stayed. There was a private party, which may have been the cause of this. We stayed the weekend prior to be taken over by Radisson so perhaps this may change things moving forward.
I have stayed at the Gonville Hotel many times and find it very welcoming and comfortable. The Staff there do everything possible to make my stay happy and as I would wish it to be.
There is a nice atmosphere and one feels well looked after.
In particular Brook Morris,as a Manager is great to deal with and at Breakfast time Jeff and Eddie were friendly and so helpful in the way they worked.A credit to the Hotel.
My experience at Dinner in the Restaurant at the front of the Hotel was also lovely in that I was given every help, which I so appreciated because I was on my own; which is not easy at times.
The welcome on arrival from the Reception. The central location. The cleanliness. Air conditioning.
The bedroom decor was frumpy, brown and dated. There was no separate shower or grab rail for the over bath shower.
Breakfast was very disappointing - only one coffee machine (a queue), indifferent table service, porridge took 20 minutes, the croissants were cold and low quality. The buffet was uninspired - no fresh fruit compote
We liked the complimentary tour in the Bentley with MIKE the most. It's really rare to get a 45-minute ride in a Bentley from a hotel for free. MIKE told us a lot of interesting details about Cambridge and the surrounding area.

The Gonville Hotel is centrally
located for all the local amenities you need in Cambridge.
We booked for my wife’s birthday the hotel staff went over and beyond to make it a special time for her. Bentley tour was the icing on the cake if you get a chance, take it because you won’t get another informative and beautiful Car to be shown the charms of Cambridge In..
Nicely decorated, good location
The room amenities are below what you would expect for a hotel of this standing and price bracket
Booked at. last minute after disappointment at another location. Friendly staff - accommodated a late meal for us in the bar, room was small but comfortable and airconditioned. Location excellent to walk around the town. We were impressed.
Parking was a bit of a mess as people had parked in more than one space (very big cars) and we had to tuck in behind the hotel. We moved our car the next day though and used the electric charger.
lovely friendly staff. lovely cool rooms which are clean and comfy.
only one towel in both rooms we had.
no tea or coffee or milk, just herbal teas. no biscuits etc.
Very helpful and cheerful reception staff. Lovely spacious colourful room with everything we needed. Great location overlooking park at edge of city centre. Parking possible if you are lucky.
Good location although a little on the edge of town. Comfortable bed and very good decor. Staff very helpful. Breakfast good. Stylish hotel. Great parking
We had to move rooms because the air con did not work. The bar was a little understaffed.
We wanted to watch the World Cup in the bar area but the screen did not work so we had to go back to our rooms.
Die Lage ist sehr gut.
Die Bentleytour mit Mike super.
Das Essen hat uns nicht sehr angesprochen.
Unsere Erwartungen ans Frühstück in einem 4-Stern sind höher. Mehr Frische.
We go to Cambridge often and this was always our first choice hotel but sadly won’t be returning. We stayed for a weekend, and both nights there was a party on below our room, we were not informed that this would be the case - not what you expect when paying nearly £500 for 2 nights. Then we were charged for an umbrella we returned, despite me calling twice and emailing- I’m still waiting on a response. The staff are always lovely and the hotel is a really nice place to visit, but this trip ruined it for us sadly.
Quality, elegance, rooms, breakfast
Rooms are a bit small
Very badly organized breakfast. Self service for hot beverages should be optional in addition to table service. One coffee machine only ehich caused long queues. Boiling water.for tea was in push button thermos which made filling a tea pot very hazardous! Teabags very inferior quality, only one type of milk on offer. Food order took 45min! To arrive anf only after askibg 4 times!! No 'artisan loaves' or brown bread. We were told it had 'run out'. Very bad. The bar had empty glassrs cluttering the bar (at 9pm), very messy. Bar had 'tun out'of olivrs and crisps.
In the hall the part we were staying the radiotors were on full blast!!!! Unbelievablrle.
Lastly, I fo not appreciated being called 'my lovrly' by staff!!
I would not stay here again!
Welcoming friendly staff. Good location
The breakfast was good, the position perfect!
