My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The communication between the hotel and myself was really good. They offered extras we could have in our room to make it feel extra special and a complimentary Bentley tour of Cambridge if we wished. Upon arriving at the hotel, it was easy to check in and discovered in our room that they had left us wine and chocolates complementary of the hotel which was a lovely surprise. We had an evening meal booked in the hotel restaurant, Tiago looked after us very well whilst we were in the restaurant and in the morning at breakfast. Even though we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant in the evening, the waiting staff could have been a bit more efficient and it felt as though they sometimes weren’t sure on what they were doing. The hotel and our room were very clean and well presented, both my husband and I agreed if we visited Cambridge in the future, we would stay at the Gonville Hotel again. We had a lovely stay and Cambridge is beautiful.
Pros: Excellent location overlooking the park, friendly and welcoming staff, and a beautiful historic building full of character.
Cons: An additional £50 charge was taken and has still not been refunded. Cleanliness standards were disappointing, the Wi-Fi was unreliable and often unusable, and the soundproofing was extremely poor—you could hear conversations and noise from neighboring rooms and the hallway. Check-in was also slow, with a long wait at reception, and the room lacked basic amenities such as bathrobes and slippers.
Overall: While the hotel's charm, history, and prime location are definite highlights, the poor cleanliness, unreliable Wi-Fi, excessive noise, and service issues significantly detracted from the experience. Considering this is a Radisson property, I expected a much higher standard.
The location & presentation in general.
The lift could do with an upgrade
Liked the location easy to get to main attractions
Didn’t like the shower room was very small and didn’t dry out once you had shower .Didn’t like the £28 charge to park car .
Great parking and good location
Bedding - pillows and duvet lumpy and duvet a winter weight one in summer.
Location and friendly greeting by staff.
Bathroom very small no where for a towel.
Great location easy to get into the city centre and attractions. Welcoming and friendly comfortable bed and good room facilities.
We would have liked to eat in the bar and relax with a few drinks, but there was live music on playing to only 2 people and we hadn't fetch ear defenders for the loudness 🤨 we thought the restaurant had limited menu and expensive so we left to source very good food elsewhere outside the hotel which is not what we wanted to do really and spoiled are stay in the hotel. Breakfast was ok bit rushed lack of cutlery so had to keep asking. In fairness these were provided swiftly. I can't believe there is only one coffee machine and hot water was down to using the flasks which are never really hot this was very disappointing and inconvenient having to wait in line for hot drinks.
air con was not working it was 32 degrees we asked twice for someone to fix it and were told it had been fixed on the third time I asked to be moved to another room
been moved when I complained the first time
Facilities are great. Spacious rooms, very clean. The complimentary Bentley tour was a highlight. Good location.
Part of the staff was great, professional and very helpful but some seemed to be very new and left to manage the bar and breakfast by themselves. Breakfast could be a bit better, Eggs Benedict were overcooked, choice of buffet was fair but could be better. IT issues when we arrived, so had to wait for them to be solved before we could check in. Not the staff fault, they handled it very efficiently.
Fijne schone kamer, heerlijk bed en airco. Parkeerplaats op het terrein aanwezig. Grote tuin met zitplaatsen.
Very comfortable hotel, perfect location, very pleasant and friendly staff.
Nothing
Great location facing the park, friendly staff, and a charming historic building.
Poor cleanliness, the Wi-Fi didn't work, and the sound insulation was practically nonexistent—you could hear everything from neighboring rooms and the hallway.
No bathrobe or slippers. No green tea, just 2 blacks and one fruit, no coffee.
They block money on check-in ("just" 50 pounds).
Heel vriendelijk personeel, bereidwillig om te helpen, prima en propere kamer, iets (te) kleine badkamer, maar voldoende groot. Goed ontbijt om de dag mee te beginnen. Perfecte ligging. Heel fijne en gezellige bar/zitkamer. Echt heel erg fijn.
De verlichting in de kamer had beter gekund. Maar werd verbeterd zodra we er iets over zeiden door toevoeging van een schemerlamp.
What a wonderful afternoon tea. The range of teas on offer was splendid. We followed Tiago's advice and were richly rewarded. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were fresh and delicious. The chocolate bon bon made a fitting end to a scrumptious afternoon.
Had a lovely room overlooking Parker’s Piece. All staff very friendly and helpful. Evening meal was really good in the Restaurant. Delicious puddings! Good choice for breakfast. Then the wonderful complimentary trip around Cambridge and villages. Zane was so informative and professional in his role. Learnt lots of interesting facts. Loved it. The car purred along. Totally smooth with excellent driving.
