The Suites Hotel at Waterfront Plaza

The room was clean the room was beautiful staff were friendly parking was convenient and easy directly across the street. The hotel was in within walking distance of everything I needed.

I found the room and everything very interesting. It was clean well kept just very nice.

I was excited to check out this hotel- it was pet friendly it was in Canal Park it had suites large enough for my family of 5 to all stay in 1 room with a small kitchenette- we were there for the weekend to enjoy Duluth, a family getaway and Bentleyville the weekend after Christmas- we drove up on Friday afternoon, and according to all the info I had, we could check in at 4p, we arrived about 15min early. I went to the desk to see if by chance our room was ready it was not- we were told to come back at 4p, so we went and walked around for 15-20min. I went back to the desk at 4p, it still was not ready- that was the start of a 2.5+ hour wait in the lobby- we kept getting told it was not ready, not clean yet, etc. We were 1 of 3 families that waited hours to get a room. When we finally were able to get into our room it was fine, it was 'clean' not ideally MY clean but it was clean-appeared to be a 'rush' clean, however - my daughter said the comforter on her bed had a rather unusual stain on it, and I found a glass half full of water in a drawer in one of the bedrooms. We were there for 3 days- so that first night I tried to speak with the manager and was told they were not there to check back in the morning, we got busy and I forgot but I did talk to Erik the manager that Saturday eve - I told him about my frustration with the wait and lack of communication and I also told him about the issues we had with the room and he told me that he appreciated the feedback he was sorry we had to wait and that was not communicated better and offered to 'comp' me a stay for use at another time. He took my name, and all my information. There were never any towels in the pool area, we had to continually go to the desk for towels, otherwise our stay was decent - When we went to check out on Sunday - it was a fight for baggage carts it appeared that they only had one. While it was not the hotels fault - we had our stuff on 1, I ran across the street to pull the car up was gone all of 1 minute and someone took our stuff off the cart and took the cart - we had a room full of stuff to still haul down- it was very frustrating. When I returned home, I gave it a couple weeks to hear back from Eric, and I got nothing, so I reached out to him - he remembered who my kids and I were and assured me that he would have his manager reach out to me regarding a comp'd stay - it is now March and I have heard nothing! I did reach out to Eric 2 more times via email and he has not responded. We chose this hotel due to its location and family telling us they had a good review of it when they stayed. My kids and I are in Duluth fairly often and I am always interested in finding good places to stay- in the canal park area that are reasonable, pet friendly and have the larger suites to accommodate us all vs multiple rooms. I am very disappointed - for so many reasons. Especially the lack of communication after we returned home - IF you are going to make promises to do something I expect you to do just that. Eric did not have to offer to comp me anything- but the fact that he did and then did not follow through with that is unfortunate, since I could have/would have told friends/family about our stay there and probably looked at staying there again in the future - now probably not.

I reached out multiple times regarding our stay in December 2025 and have yet to receive a satisfactory response.
Our experience was extremely unpleasant and far below acceptable hospitality standards.
From the outset, our room was freezing (we complained multiple times), making our stay uncomfortable. This was compounded by being woken abruptly at approximately 8:00 a.m. by maintenance and staff pounding on our door as if there were an emergency, only to check for leaking pipes??! ( not apolgies). This situation was alarming, disruptive, and handled very poorly.
Additionally, breakfast ran out before the posted end time, which was frustrating and inconvenient. Communication with front desk employees throughout our stay was consistently poor. When we raised concerns, staff were dismissive, rude, and failed to offer any apologies or meaningful assistance.
Overall, the lack of professionalism, communication, and basic courtesy was extremely disappointing. This experience fell well short of what we expected and paid for, and it has left us very dissatisfied.
I have not received any acknowledgment or explanation in person or by email.

The breakfast was ok. Location is great. Nice to have a refrigerator in the room. Room rate was very reasonable.

Breakfast - so nice to have both hot and cold options.
Location - loved being in center of things - nice to be able to walk just about everywhere.
Pools - brought my 10-, 8-, and 3-year-old sons and they loved the pools. Nice to have a variety for all.

Excellent location on Canal Park, spacious and comfortable rooms, quiet, good value.
