Beautiful hotel in the New Forest
Pros:

Top quality historic hotel in beautiful estate. Warm welcome from very helpful staff. Beautifully clean and comfortable rooms. Attention to detail in decor and top quality bed linens. Delicious dining and breakfast with plenty of choice. Very eco friendly including providing plenty of cold local water refills in reusable bottles for every room whenever needed. Plus silent fans in rooms. This was very important in recent excessive heat.
Secluded hotel but easy access to New Forest, local attractions and Lyndhurst.
Very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Excellent Function Rooms
Pros:

We held my mother’s Celebration of Life at Bartley Lodge. This was an excellent choice. The room was the perfect size for us, the buffet was plentiful and good quality. All the staff were very helpful.

Do not stay go to Balmer Lawn down the road
Pros:

I booked this hotel due to visiting Paultons Park with our 1 year old. We actually viewed the hotel and considered getting married here a couple of years ago go and after this visit we are so glad we didn’t!

Stayed 20th June - 22nd June

Upon arrival the receptionist was really welcoming and helpful. Also worth noting the temperature outside during our stay was 28-31 degrees so hot! Prior to arrival I asked for a mini fridge to be in our room and what cooling facilities the hotel offered. No fridge in the room on arrival but the helpful receptionist sorted this quickly (they charge £5 a day for the mini fridge) and a fan was provided. We used the pool on the first day it is in need for some tlc but is functional. Beware of the steep slippery slope should you be going with little ones.

Our room the first night was tired and we were on the top floor which was warm. In the en-suite the towel rail was on and we could not turn it off. We had a thermometer with us due to dressing our little one in the right sleeping things and we put it into the en-suite and the temperature was 35. We mentioned this to reception in the morning and she kindly offered us to move rooms. Asked us to pack our bags and they would move us whilst we were out for this day.

Upon our return there was a new receptionist Sunday 21st June 4pm. We were received a very abrupt welcome. When we tried to explain we had changed rooms and please could we have our room key she refused due to the fact we had not paid for our stay on arrival (we had not been asked to by the previous receptionist). We were hot, tired, thirsty and needed to get our 1 year old into a cool calm room. I tried to explain the card we wanted to pay with was in my bag which was in the room that she would not let us have access to and began to judge us and argue that we would not have gone out for the day without our cards. Yes we have our phones but not the card that we wanted to use for a large sum. She was incredibly rude, accusing and judgemental and did not want to give us her name. Eventually my husband paid on his phone on an account we’d rather not use such a transaction on.

The room we were in was good, spacious and most importantly the towel rail was off! We went to check out on the morning of 22nd approx 9am and it was the same rude receptionist so we asked her to write her name down.

We have attached a photo of her writing her name that looks completely different to the name she gave us the previous night.

Sadly, this is not a hotel we would now return to and not the sort or service we would expect from a 4* hotel.

Mediocre for the price
Pros:

The hotel was fine but not much better than a Premier Inn/Travelodge. Could do with some updating. The breakfast menu was good but some elements were missing from the cooked breakfast which was disappointing

Stay at Balmer Lawn not here!
Pros:

Outside of the building is pretty and the first receptionist was great. The second room we stayed in was nice.

Tucked away but looking tired
Pros:

Being tucked away in the countryside is an asset we enjoyed . We had a great nights sleep as the area is so quiet. We did not enjoy the gristle in the sausages and I had to (wet)shave over the bath as no hot water came from the tap over the sink.

Very disappointing Afternoon Tea
Pros:

I treated my husband to an afternoon tea on his birthday. I thought the Bartley Lodge Hotel looked the perfect place on the web. However, right from the start, the afternoon did not go too well. When we arrived, there was no one on reception and we wandered around until we found someone. We were seated in in the conservatory, and then had to wait a while until the food arrived. We were disappointed with the selection. We had asked for no fish sandwiches and they had recognised this but had given us double helpings of cucumber sandwiches instead! The cakes were very small and not very varied. And the scones were incredibly dry, hard and stale! We complained about the scones, and fifteen minutes later, we got some replacements, freshly defrosted, warm and soggy. The service was haphazard with no one being present for most of the time we were there. We left, thoroughly disappointed, but with no one around to complain to.
Not something we would like to repeat!

Disappointing
Pros:

Arrived for a wedding with overnight stay. Found out early On that the staff weren't too helpful. Rooms were uncomfortable , no air con or fans ( son slept in his car as it was too hot). Asking for any extras, coffee etc was a no no, told they were too busy. Not enough staff to cover the event. Never anyone at reception . Lovely catch up with family but wouldn't stay here again
