This was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we have ever had.
We chose this hotel specifically because of its beachfront location, the beautiful beach advertised by the property, and the premium room features. Unfortunately, none of these could be enjoyed during our stay.
The beach was completely covered with massive amounts of seaweed and appeared not to have been cleared for days. It was impossible to walk along the beach, relax by the water, swim, or even enter the ocean. The beach and sea are clearly among the main selling points of this hotel, yet they were entirely unusable.
The situation was made even worse by the overwhelming stench from the decomposing seaweed. The smell was so strong that it caused nausea. We had booked a room with a private plunge pool on the balcony, but we could not use it because sitting outside for more than a few minutes was unbearable. A key feature of the room we paid for was effectively unusable.
As a result, we made the decision to leave Tulum immediately after arrival and book alternative accommodation at Hotel Xcaret where the seaweed was minimised through barrieres and the beach was cleaned daily. Therefore there was almost no impact and the water was cristal clear.
What truly turned this from a disappointing stay into an unacceptable experience was the hotel’s complete lack of customer service afterward. We contacted the hotel, explained the situation in detail, requested a refund, and sent follow-up messages. Despite multiple attempts to communicate, we have received absolutely no response. Not a single acknowledgment, apology, or effort to address our concerns. What we do not understand is why a hotel charging premium rates believes it is acceptable to ignore guests entirely when serious complaints are raised.
If you are booking this hotel because of the beach, the sea, or the outdoor experience, we strongly recommend checking current conditions very carefully before committing. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this property and are deeply disappointed by both the conditions we encountered and the way our complaint has been handled.
Great room, beautifully designed with Plunge Pool that saved my he day! Tulum beach is experiencing an Ungodly amount of seaweed at this time, so the beach is pretty inaccessible with a heavy stench that does flow throughout the hotel BUT they can’t do anything about that. The seaweed again has accumulated beyond management. Staff was very helpful and responsive. There is a very good sushi restaurant located on property. The chef knows his stuff! The owner of the restaurant tends to self-promote a little too much… but the food is worth it.
Shocking state of beach completely covered in rotting seaweed and debris meant we could only stay for the first night, confined to our room due to stench from balcony. Management had no response or explanation for failure to tackle this problem. Their website photos totally misleading. Nowhere to relax, beach and sea inaccessible, just miserable and expensive! Don’t go!!
Boutique hotel and apart from beach area looked reasonably well maintained.
The hotel made no effort to clean the small beach of huge amounts of accumulated seaweed including rubbish washed up with it. It was a health and safety nightmare and we could not use the sunbeds, access the beach, the sea or open our balcony doors due to smell of rotting seaweed. We left after the first night as the hotel was not fit for purpose. Our requests at the property and subsequently for a refund for nights 2 to 5 have been totally ignored.
We have been to Tulum many times and we are familiar with Saragossa seaweed but for a small luxury hotel I expect the hotel to make either an effort to remove some seaweed or to inform the guests ahead of time of the Severity of the issue. We understand that Mother Nature cannot be stopped but man has always found a way to improve things that are messy.
The manager Angel Tedeo was rude and not helpful. The staff was kind and understanding
The staff were fabulous
The pool was disappointing
My stay at Tago Tulum was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. The hotel exceeded all my expectations in every way. The rooms were beautifully designed, clean, and incredibly comfortable, creating the perfect atmosphere to relax and unwind.
The staff was outstanding, always friendly, attentive, and willing to go above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of, making the stay feel both luxurious and welcoming. A special thank you to Emmanuel and Andrea, who made me feel safe and helped organize sightseeing, making my trip smooth and enjoyable.
The location is perfect, offering a peaceful and exclusive vibe while still being close to everything Tulum has to offer. The food and amenities were also top-notch, adding even more to the overall experience.
Everything about my stay was excellent, and I would highly recommend Tago Tulum to anyone looking for a truly special getaway. I can’t wait to come back!
The only downside was that the air conditioning was a bit noisy.
Unser Zimmer war sehr schön, gross, sauber und mit Meerblick.
Leider gab es so gut wie keinen Strand, da das kleine Stück voller Algen war. Die Strandliegen sind fast alle aufgerissen und alles etwas ramponiert.
I don’t even know where to begin—this hotel in Tulum called Tago is absolutely incredible. We actually stayed here last year, and we loved it so much that we came back again this year and chose the exact same place. That alone says everything.
It has such a cute, chill boutique hotel vibe that makes it feel special and personal from the moment you arrive. The staff makes you feel so welcome and taken care of—everyone is genuinely kind, attentive, and goes above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable.
A special thank you to Angel, who truly went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. On my last day, when I wasn’t feeling well, he was so helpful and thoughtful—he even recommended what to get at the pharmacy, which made a huge difference. That level of care really stood out.
The restaurants are fantastic, with amazing food and a great atmosphere that makes every meal feel like a treat. Everything about this hotel is just over the top in the best way possible—the service, the experience, and the attention to detail. It truly feels like a place you never want to leave.
We already can’t wait to go back again. I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone considering staying in Tago.
Last week, I had an incredible stay at the Tago Hotel in Tulum. The entire experience was a perfect blend of relaxation and warmth. The staff were beyond wonderful—so friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful at every turn. They really made me feel cared for, which elevated the entire break. From the serene environment to the outstanding service, it was the relaxing getaway I’d been hoping for!
Nice, large and conformable room with plunge pool. Free parking and service is excellent from all staff.
We were disappointed that the sargassum on the beach was not cleared. We chose this hotel specifically for ocean access, but unfortunately, we couldn’t swim due to the seaweed and debris along the shore. We noticed that other SLH properties we visited, such as La Zebra and Lula, had their beaches cleaned daily, so we’re not sure why this wasn’t the case here. Also continental breakfast could be improve.
We absolutely LOVED this hotel last year when we stayed. And some things are the same. The hotel is stunning and well kept. The ground floor pools are now heated. The beds and beach beds are some of the comfiest ever. The little touches like dessert and sand messages are even better! And the staff. Absolutely first rate. Everyone. But this time we have to shout out Mari, seriously best room maid ever. Thorough, friendly, went out of her way for any little thing. A doll of a human, we hugged when we checked out. Angel the front desk guy. We would barely hit send on a text message before he came running or sent someone. Blanca the waitress, wow. Anticipated everything (like saw I had a tea bag and automatically came back with hot water and milk) absolute star. And Pablo, who ran to get my husband medicine when he got food poisoning (not from there) and even checked on him later. None of them ever acted like it was for tips. They are just that good. If I ever opened a hotel I would steal them!
But not everything has stayed at that level. Like most hotels they do NOTHING about the seaweed so you can’t get in the ocean at all most days. And now the hotel (against its written policy) now seems to allow children, so I was not expecting nor happy to hear shrieking from the cenote pool. But the worst were the group of about 10 guests spread out through the hotel. They were loud, (like yelling across the garden to each other instead of calling or texting) obnoxious, rude to staff, and drunk and high every night, coming home between 4-6. We know this because they were yelling, stomping around like elephants, blasting music and even repeatedly banging on OUR door (I assume they were lost or confused) it was awful and nearly gave us a heart attack. Nothing at ALL was done to control this rowdy bunch, they seemed like VIPs and were given full reign to destroy the peaceful trip the rest of the guests sought out. I’m sorry but if that is the clientele they are now attracting I’ll have to look for a new spot. Which breaks my heart because aside from those things and the INSANELY high food prices at the restaurant it was nearly a perfect oasis.
The property was well looked after extremely clean the staff friendly accommodating above and beyond. The room was spacious super comfortable, high high ceiling. Wonderful bathroom, shower vanity best bathroom I’ve been in in a while.
The properties on the north side of Tulum in hotel zone, which allows it to be quiet and comfortable. We rented bikes to get around during the day. It was absolutely stunning had a great island feel with high-end amenities.
