Stone Maiden Inn

Other than at check in, we did not see the innkeeper. No one made up the room during our stay. There were no glasses for drinking water in the room. The 4 poster bed was very high and might be an issue for guests with mobility issues. There was an unfortunate odor of sewage emanating from the bathroom pipes. The room door was not very soundproof and we could easily hear other guests coming & going in the hall.

Parking extremely tight, made for tiny cars. Dirty bathroom, hair gunks from previous guest. Hot room. Couldn’t turn off ceiling light and just keep fan running. Big hole in wall they covered with construction paper. Very unfriendly staff, laughed when I said I couldn’t do all these stairs, yet kept us on 3rd floor. Wrong keys given to us. Water smelled. Coffee had no milk or cream. Laughed when we expressed concern re safety knowing someone else had key to our room. TV in room was a joke, so tiny and badly positioned. One chair for 2 people. Host stood there doing nothing while another guest helped me with my bag on the stairs. Never again!

Where to begin? This is NOT a bed and breakfast, no breakfast is offered at all. The floor in the bathroom was not cleaned well before our stay (used dental floss and hair ball on the floor). The host was not at all friendly. Each interaction with him made you feel like you were a bother. He didn't say "welcome," when we arrived; no, "good morning" or "how was your room/how did you sleep," the next day; no, "thanks for staying with us" when we were leaving...no smile or warmth at all. He's in the wrong business.

Information and communication could have been better - I was unable to have my questions about check-in and coffee facilities answered, either through booking.com or directly with the owner. The phone number listed on booking.com's website and app was not in service and I had to do a lot of sleuthing to find one that worked (through another booking site). Even when I left a message on the correct in service #, it went unanswered and the website mentioned nothing about coffee being available, so I brought my own. In one place, it said that breakfast was included and elsewhere that it wasn't (it's not). The website just said that check-in was between 4-6 and I knew we would be there quite late, so I was concerned we might not be able to access our room - no one ever contacted us back to advise. When we did arrive late, there was a sort of suspicious homeless man wandering in the parking area looking into cars which made my daughter and I feel uneasy. Re check in, we found a note on the front door, which was open and the key to our room was in the lock to out room. After our experience with the gentleman in the parking lot, we locked the front door to the inn. Also, the bar fridge in our room was not working. We were on the second floor up a long flight of steep stairs (which I don't believe was mentioned), so would have been impossible for someone with accessibility issues. It is quite pricey considering the lack of breakfast and amenities.

Absolutely nothing. It was exceptional. We would go back anytime in Stratford

​AC Unit Location & Windows: The window air conditioner was quite old, and because it blew air directly onto the bed, I had to keep it turned off. Additionally, the windows could not be opened, which prevented any fresh air from entering the room.
​Bathroom Fixtures & Exhaust Fan: The shower control handle was loose and actually came off in my hand. Also, the bathroom lighting and exhaust fan are connected to a single switch, meaning the loud fan stays on continuously whenever the light is on. Having a separate switch for the fan would be a major improvement.
​Room Layout & TV Visibility: Space in the room was very limited. The bed dominated the room, leaving only narrow pathways. Additionally, one of the bedposts directly blocked the line of sight to the television.
​Lack of Breakfast: I was disappointed to find no full breakfast served, only morning coffee and tea. It would be a great addition to bring back a proper breakfast option.
