Pleasant if not overwhelming.
Pros:

The hotel is well located on the river, easily walkable into town, but far enough out to retain some element of quiet. The room was VERY spacious, comfortable, clean with good amenities. Breakfast (included) was plentiful and varied. The staff were efficient, but never really engaged, and - despite its 5-star rating - it lacked any warmth or atmosphere.

Pros:

1st visit 3 years prior Great
2nd visit 2026 - atrocious
Rats size of cats under restaurant tables and despite several attempts to complain to general manager or anyone other than poor young girl told to deal with it ... nothing from the GM - avoid

Nice rooms but noisy and very average breakfast
Pros:

We had a deluxe grand king room on the 7th floor pretty much under the bar and pool. Very noisy as they set up and pack down each today, same with entry door so thin every nose can be heard in the hallway and cleaners start early slamming doors

Balcony is not big enough to sit on and no chairs so that’s a waste of money.

So noisy on the 7th floor pretty sure no double glazing as we can hear traffic and dogs barking late at night very early hours of the morning.

Room Pros:
Tea and coffee making provided
Bath is nice
Room is very clean
TV/ block out blinds
Laundry service is good no damage to clothes comes back within the day cost $100,000 VD per kilo. Around $5 Australian

Cons- toilet is in a confined glass room with very little leg room, I’m not a big person at all but if you are larger build it might be a squeeze.

Hotel:
Two small pools with limited beds so unless you are up early and get one no chance once the day gets started .

Roof top bar, great views, drinks are around $15Aus for a cocktail and happy hour is 6pm-7pm and 9pm-10pm so not great times. Potentially aimed while every one is out to dinner so never really got to take advantage of either.

Breakfast:
Well for a 5 star hotel this is terrible. The hotel is full of westerners yet the options of any sort of normal breakfast is poor. You can have toast, yogurt, small selection of fruit or seen most people eating cereal like fruit loops..

Otherwise it’s very fatty bacon barely any actual red on it just white fat rinds. Egg station small limited options. Or salads, cheese, meats or spicy foods for breakfast. Worst of all no fresh milk at all. For a 5 star hotel they are using UHT milk in coffee and expect you to put it in tea and it is terrible. Asked management and the chef spoke to us and said he can order it in but it goes off in 7 days that’s why they don’t… surely like every other hotel they serve hundreds of cups of coffee at breakfast alone I’m sure it would get used. Also agreed bacon was terrible quality. So we were advised breakfast would be refunded after day one and did not eat in the hotel again. However this has Not been refunded and we have been home now for near 3 weeks.
Followed up by email twice told refund will be done allow 2-4 weeks. Takes them 1 minutes to swipe my card to charge me but now no refund after 3 weeks.

Walked down to old town instead for breakfast it was cheaper at VY Deli and that was an amazing breakfast with proper coffee and fresh milk for half the cost of this hotel breakfast.

Location:
Great 3-4 minute walk straight to the end of the street and you are at the gates to old town. Everything you need is right there. Easy to get grabs and take a mini tour on a trolley bus around Hoi An.

Staff all very friendly especially housekeeping and reception.

In all this hotel needs to upgrade their sound proofing and food if they want to claim they are 5* as over $500 a night in Vietnam for a room is not the cheap end and the price should reflect the quality of both the accommodation and food.

Cannot go wrong here….
Pros:

Travelling as a group of 7 friends, we arrived at Hotel Royal for a five night stay. Centrally located, you could walk to most places or catch a Grab. The room was spacious and comfortable and the staff were a delight to deal with. The breakfast offering was not the best I’ve had but certainly not the worst. Laundry done promptly and easy to organise. All in all - it was a good stay and worthy of a visit. We would return.

Great hospitality
Pros:

Outstanding hospitality. I stayed for four nights. The hotel overlooks the river and is a short walk from the main action in Hoi An. The room was spotless and very comfortable, the AC working perfectly. Minbar is complimentary, which is a nice touch. Breakfast has lots of options, from local dishes (Cau lau) to eggs Benedict to pastries. I really appreciated the help when they arranged a shipment for me.
There are 2 swimming pools. I liked the rooftop one the most. The bar offers a buy one get one happy hour.
I would really recommend this hotel. Everyone really was helpful and kind.

Perfect 5-Star Base for Exploring Hoi An with Stunning Rooftop Views
Pros:

We stayed at Hotel Royal Hoi An Gallery for three nights from 14–17 March as part of our tour of Vietnam, in a Deluxe Suite that we had specifically booked.
Our room was a spacious corner suite with a fantastic balcony, which quickly became one of our favourite spots to sit and watch the world go by. The room itself was very well designed, spotlessly clean, and extremely comfortable. The bed in particular was excellent, ensuring a great night’s sleep after long days of sightseeing.
The hotel is ideally located, just a pleasant 10-minute stroll from the centre of town, making it perfect for exploring while still offering a peaceful place to retreat to.
Breakfast each morning was extensive and high quality, and we loved sitting out on the terrace to eat. The hotel has two pools — one on the rooftop and one in the centre of the hotel. Both are beautifully maintained with very comfortable loungers. We never struggled to find space at either pool, although the rooftop pool can get busy at times.
We made a habit of visiting the rooftop bar each evening before heading into town. It’s a wonderful spot for a cocktail while watching the sunset over the town and river.
Throughout our stay, the staff were consistently professional, polite, and welcoming.
This is a very nice five-star hotel, perfectly placed for exploring Hoi An and ideal for relaxing in after a long day of sightseeing. We would happily recommend it and stay here again.

Great rooms - service levels vary
Pros:

The suite we got upgraded to was amazing.
I felt the breakfast was underwhelming and often very crowded with long queues, I would suggest potentially serving Lounge Members away from the main restaurant.
The lounge offering was great value but service was hit and miss, some staff offered some people cocktails/spirits and not others, while there didn't seem to be enough seating for lounge guests.
The two pools give you options and the cleanliness of the rooms could not be faulted.

Relaxing in the middle of Hoi An
Pros:

Absolutely the hotel to be if you want to relax and yet be few minutes from the lovely and lovely Hoi An. Room was perfect and access to the executive club made our stay very special… the staff is kind and attentive. Special mention to Nga and Trinhy from the executive club… they were so kind and remembered our drinks order from one day to the other…

Good location, but far from a true five-star experience
Pros:

We arrived without inflated expectations, but of course we still measured the hotel against what it advertises, how it positions itself, and the price it charges. We booked the largest suite category, Deluxe Suite, for two nights.

The overall impression of the hotel is solid. It is a good base for staying in Hoi An, especially because of its proximity to the old town. At the same time, taken as a whole, it does not deliver the level we would associate with a true five-star hotel. It is not a matter of friendliness or basic willingness to help. Those were certainly there. What is missing is the consistency, quality, confidence, and attentiveness one would expect in this category.

That was noticeable from the moment of arrival. The check-in process did not feel especially polished or well organized. Breakfast also fell clearly short of what we would expect at this level. The quality was not bad, but at best adequate and in no way memorable. The fact that mineral water is charged separately at breakfast also did not feel consistent with a five-star standard. The coffee was particularly disappointing. Both the espresso and the Vietnamese coffee specialties were weak, and you can get much better coffee almost anywhere around the hotel.

We felt similarly mixed about the service overall. The staff were consistently friendly, courteous, and clearly trying to be helpful. At the same time, in many areas it felt as though there simply were not enough staff members available to deliver on the hotel’s own ambitions. At the pool, for example, there was a lack of presence and attentiveness; towels sometimes had to be handled by guests themselves, and used items were not cleared away promptly as a matter of course. We have experienced this much better in other five-star hotels across Asia.

We also visited the club lounge, which is available to suite guests, and for us it was a major disappointment. Honestly, only one word comes to mind: ridiculous. The space felt rickety, poorly maintained, musty, not clean, uninviting, and overall completely unattractive. In its current form, it adds no value at all and is more likely to frustrate guests than please them. Quite frankly, it would be better not to offer something like this at all and instead come up with a smaller but more coherent alternative. We have rarely seen anything like it.

On the positive side, the suite itself was genuinely attractive. The Deluxe Suite was visually very nice, spacious, and in principle a nice room. The major flaw, however, and the one thing that seriously affected our stay, was the almost nonexistent sound insulation. Whether the windows were open or closed made virtually no difference to the noise level in the room. The hotel sits at a intersection, and in Vietnam constant honking is simply part of daily street life. In the room, though, it felt as if you were sleeping right in the middle of that intersection. In this category, that is simply unacceptable.

During our stay there was also a multi-day funeral ceremony taking place across the river on the other side of the street. The hotel is obviously not responsible for that, and we approached it with the respect such an event deserves. What was striking, however, was how fully that noise still came through into the room. The ceremony started around 5:00 in the morning with loudspeaker announcements and tinny music and continued until late at night, so there was essentially constant, unbearable noise in the room. Music over speakers and shouting through megaphones were so present for hours at a time that it felt as though it were happening inside the hotel itself. So the real issue was not the event itself, but once again the room’s complete lack of acoustic shielding from outside. We barely slept at all on either night.

Bottom line: the Royal Hoi An Hotel is not a bad hotel. There are no major defects, and as a well-located base for Hoi An it is certainly usable. But measured against its presentation, its price point, and its five-star claim, it fell clearly short for us. The lack of sound insulation is a major weakness. Service, breakfast, the club lounge, and the overall quality also do not come close, in our view, to what one would expect from one of the leading hotels in town. So overall, this is a decent hotel in a good location, but the overall experience is far removed from true five-star quality.

Nice but noisy hotel
Pros:

Nice but not great hotel. We were “upgraded” to a very nice room, but the scooter traffic noise was specifically what I had requested to avoid. Request a room facing main pool for quieter sleep.

Fabulous Hotel in Great Location
Pros:

We travelled around Asia for 4 weeks and stayed in some lovely hotels but this was by far our favourite one. The hotel is in a great location next to the river and a short pleasant walk to the old town. it’s a beautiful building and is immaculate throughout. Our room was huge and had everything we could need and had a lovely view of the river. Breakfast had a great choice and the quality was excellent and you could sit inside or outside. Staff were so friendly and helpful like all the people we met in Vietnam. We used their complimentary bikes one day to cycle out to the rice fields to see the Water Buffalo. They got us tickets for the Memories show which was well worth watching. We will definitely return to Vietnam and will stay at the Royal again.
