The location was excellent. The room was larger than I expected and had a lovely brewery of the front cobbled street. We had dinner and breakfast at the Gorest restaurant, which is connected to the hotel, and both dishes were delicious and plentiful. It's great that this hotel is dog friendly. The staff were professional and welcoming. Room eqs comfortable and warm. I would definitely stay here again when next back in York.

The owners were welcoming thoughtful and helpful. The hotel is quirky and interesting and in a superb location for exploring York city centre. The food was delicious ( evening meals and breakfasts). The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean.
As pensioners the stairs were a challenge though this should be expected in such an old quirky building. Next time we’ll ask for a room on a lower floor. The bathroom was quite small.

Abbiamo soggiornato in quest'hotel per 3 notti. Siamo stati accolti dal sorriso di David, amichevole, molto disponibile e attento a qualunque richiesta. Ci è stata assegnata la camera numero 2, comoda con una bellissima finestra e una doccia abbastanza grande, molto pulita. Staff estremamente gentile, educatissimo e attento. Ristorante forest è accogliente, caldo e si mangia benissimo. Se torneremo a York sicuramente sceglieremo nuovamente questa struttura. Siamo stati veramente benissimo.

Location is perfect. Very central and looking down Grape Lane towards the minster. Step out and you're bang in the middle of everything.
The building itself is quirky and very well decorated.
The staff are ultra amenable and friendly and the breakfast was really nice.
We'll continue to book here when places like Guy Faulkes Inn aren't available. That's not a slight on Galtress Lodge in any way. Just preference.
The room is a little cosy. Its not a complaint, we knew before we booked as we've been before so if you're looking for spacious, make sure you check before booking.
