Good location,staff and breakfast!
The hotel was lovely staff were excerlent very freindly we stayed for 2 days ane will be back not far from the under ground which was better then when stayed at the travel lodge the breakfast was loveky and very quick service
I've read certain reviews of The Mitre House that describe it as slightly old-fashioned and lacking in big chain-hotel glamour. So far from that being a minus, I'd say it was all part of the place's considerable character and charm. If you stay there, you'll be met by an ever-friendly and helpful staff, given an immaculately clean and comfortable room, and find yourself treated to a sizzling English breakfast each morning. I might add that the hotel is literally just down the street from Paddington Station, with its high-speed link to Heathrow, and no more than a ten-minute stroll from the delights of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. The overall feel is of a warmly friendly, family-run establishment of the old school, and one highly recommended by this particular repeat visitor.
What a great hotel! We arrived late and were given a really warm greeting…. Our room was so clean and warm and the bed really comfy. The shower was amazing….. really hot constant water with great pressure.
The breakfast was lovely, promptly served and really tasty.
If you are looking for all the mod cons, sealed units and automatic keys that keep failing then this is not the hotel for you. However if you are looking for a nice warm hospitable place to stay which is clean, tidy and has super friendly staff at a really affordable price then give this hotel a try. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks for a great stay, we will definitely return.
Didn’t expect too much but we arrived in room and found the radiators cold.
I pointed this out when we left for dinner and was told they would see to it.
On return from night out still the same and we had to sleep with coats on!
This hotel is the perfect location from which to visit London. A few minutes easy walk from Paddington station, and just round the corner from Hyde Park. We were amazed to find the hotel has onsite parking (not that we needed it), but this is pretty unusual in central London.
We stayed in a family room, so two rooms with a shared bathroom between us. It comfortably housed 5 of us. The decor is slightly dated, but the place was immaculately clean and the housekeeping was excellent. The staff are super-friendly and gave us advice around local eateries that provided discounts to Mitre House guests. Breakfast is served to you daily. If I had one slight grumble, it would be that 9am is a tight cut off for breakfast when you are on holiday (especially with 3 teenagers), but it did mean we got up and out each day.
I’d definitely recommend this hotel for a London trip and would definitely book again.
Very clean, staff very friendly and helpful, Hyde park within walking distance and hotel 5 to 7 walk from Paddington station. Breakfast was good, also good service, staff seated you, asked tea or coffee then came back immediately with the tea and coffee as well as orange juice. They then took your order and there was a good variety to choose from and didn't wait to long for it to be served.
Would definitely stay here again.
My 41st year staying at the Miter House and another perfect stay. I love this hotel and think of it as my home away from home.
Pros
Family owned and operated.
Hotel staff, always so welcoming!
Very clean rooms.
Really nice full English breakfast included in the price.
Amazing location, a couple of minute walk to Paddington Station or Lancaster Gate.
Some really nice local pubs (The Victoria, The Monkey Puzzle and The Mitre Hyde Park)
Cons, in my opinion, there are none. 41 years of staying here says it all.
For the reviews that complain about small rooms and some dated decor, they don't understand the value. For this location and price, its a bargain. To see the value, take a walk and pop in and view what some of Hotels along Sussex Gardens or Norfolk Square look like inside. That's what I did 41 years ago, The Mitre was the cleanest and most welcoming at the same or lower price. I imagine that still holds true today.
Hope to see you all again In April

This is the second time we have stayed here this year. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast good and it's close to both Paddington and Lancaster Gate stations. It's not a five star hotel and I don't expect that for the price. The reception staff are always helpful and friendly. The rooms are old but clean and it's not too noisy from the road or other guests. The breakfast is cooked fresh and it's enough to start the day with. You have to hand in your room key when you leave which I find is secure and we've never had any problems. The staff remembered us when we returned and gave us our keys. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Breakfast was terrible. We decided to go buy breakfast the remainder of our holiday. I went to the bathroom after breakfast and witnessed a staff member leave the bath and not wash her hands (hopefully she wasn’t on food duty!!! ).
Beds were comforting we slept really well.
The shower head is filthy with like a lime build up…. Super easy to clean and I don’t understand how it has never been cleaned by the looks of it.
Picked up my suitcase and a carpet moth was on it. I could see part of the carpet torn up. There is no room to put your luggage anywhere, we had it in the doorway which isn’t safe but where else can we keep it
The gentleman working the nights (9pm? ) dark curly hair is super helpful. We had a nice chat about foxes!
It’s an old hotel that can really do with maintenance and general aesthetic fixing up. But a great location within minutes of paddington station and comfortable beds.
Fabulous hotel that was close to everything. Feel very safe and secure at this hotel.
The breakfast was healthy and the service was excellent. The property was very convenient to Paddington tube station. The staff was very welcoming and helpful.
Rooms were small but functional. Daily maid service, free English breakfast, and cozy downstairs bar made our stay excellent. The front desk staff (especially Mo) could not have been more helpful or friendly. Location was very close to Paddington train station and was very safe and convenient to shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.
Very nice hotel in convenient location near Paddington Station. Close to everything via tube, bus, train, etc. Great breakfast included. Staff couldnhave been any nicer, and they are there 24/7. Would definitely stay again. Side note: any affordable hotel in London is going to be small and elderly.
Staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel and rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Not much space in the rooms.
This hotel is in fairly quiet area very close to Paddington station. Very helpful staff, clean with an excellent sit down breakfast. Room was very small with no climate control. Very old place so if you’re looking for modern this ain’t for you.
Convenient & central location. Restaurants nearby. Dated decor and tight rooms.
Convenient location and excellent staff. Room, however, is cramped and bedding subpar.
The hotel is very convenient for Paddington and local area. My room my ok but between staircases on ground floor and a little claustrophobic. Breakfast was only average and limited choices
Overall, my stay was very positive, the only reason why I bumped it down a star was because I didn’t understand a single room meant a single bed, and if you were staying here during the summer, I think the room would be very hot since there’s no air conditioning. Since I was staying in early October and it was starting to get cold out, I left the window open at night, which doesn’t have a screen, so occasionally a moth or a bug would fly in. My room was super small, but since it was just me, I didn’t really care. There was no serviceable desk to work at, even though there was a small desk as soon as you come in the door. Since the bathroom door spring closes, as it starts to get cold out that bathroom is super cold. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The free English breakfast was very good. There is a couple spaces for on-site parking, which I was going to use but wound up not renting a car, but during the four days I was there there was only ever one or two cars parked there so there was always a space open. Even though my review seems negative, my issues were fairly small.
