The location.
All was good.
Was a lovely location and excellent rooms
Special mention: David was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble when I checked in. Great customer service. The hotel decor was gorgeous and the location in Bakewell was perfect. Breakfast was delicious.
Nothing
Overall, we had a lovely stay and the hotel itself is beautiful. The staff were all incredibly friendly and couldn't have been more helpful throughout our visit. We stayed in the Jane Austen room, which was full of lovely historic memorabilia and really added to the character of the stay—although I must admit the portrait of Jane Austen was a little spooky when trying to get to sleep!
The bed was very comfortable and, although our room was at the front of the hotel and a little noisy at times, that's not really something the hotel can control.
The only aspect that let the experience down was the breakfast, especially considering we paid over £300 for one night. We were invited to help ourselves to the continental selection while waiting for our cooked breakfast order to be taken, but the continental offering was quite limited—just plain and chocolate croissants, some basic fruit, cereal and pots of yoghurt. Compared to other hotels in this price range, it felt rather underwhelming, so we didn't bother helping ourselves.
Service at breakfast was also a little disorganised. We both ordered tea and orange juice. Over 10 minutes later, our drinks arrived as a pot of tea and a coffee. We explained we'd only ordered tea but were happy to share the pot. The orange juice never arrived, so I asked again and only one glass was brought over instead of two.
The cooked breakfast itself was nicely presented but quite small: one sausage, one piece of rather fatty bacon, a flat mushroom, beans and black pudding. The sausage was fairly tasteless, although the rest was enjoyable. It also would have been much nicer if toast had been included as standard.
Overall, it's a lovely hotel with excellent staff and lots of character, but for the price paid I was expecting a breakfast experience that matched the quality of the accommodation. I've stayed in less expensive hotels that offered a much more generous breakfast selection.
were placed in the building across the road
The property was cosy and quirky.
Very clean. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Felt well looked after. So glad we pick here . 100% recommend.
Absolutely everything! The hotel is so beautifully decorated and the food and staff both brilliant. Special thanks to Clare on reception who is always so lovely and helpful with everything to make your stay even better.
Polite happy and helpful staff. Greatly positioned for the town. The dinner was fabulous, so hot, fresh and cooked to a fine dining standard.
Breakfast was a little disappointing. Limited variety of cereals. Scrambled eggs could be less cooked. Slow serving.
The above is purely feedback to improve, standard set but such a great dinner and did not lessen the happy staff and great stay.
Location perfect for our three night visit to the area. Lovely comfortable room. All guest areas well maintained and taken care by the team on site
Small issue getting parked - but team made it very clear prior to our stay alternatives. It’s not something you can easily change given central location
Fabulous location. Great room - very clean. Amazing breakfast. Lovely, lovely, lovely staff! We loved it there

In excellent condition
Location, cleanliness and comfort and we were given a ground floor room which we requested ahead of the stay.
No fridge for insulin, no air con 32 degree weather the fan did nothing and unable to open window. Limited parking only 1 disabled bay but we managed to get a space. Had to walk over busy road for fresh milk so used the UHT. If a mini fridge was in the room the milk could be stored there. 2 bottles of water was provided would have been a nice touch if they were cold but they were warm as not in a fridge. No signal in the room = no Wi-Fi.
Character; good public rooms; good parking; good central location.
The WiFi and 4G connectivity in the annex was frankly appalling.
