I stayed at the Hotel Gunter and it was lovely. Becky at the desk was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and cozy. If you're looking for a generic hotel experience then stick with a chain; if you want very affordable, unique, historic, quirky and something to remember, go to the Gunter. It was very quiet while I was there. Don't forget to check out the museum in the basement and experience relaxing on the front balconies, which are available to all visitors and offer views of downtown Frostburg. There are lots of nice decorative details still intact - keep in mind the hotel was built in 1897!
Love an old hotel
Clean comfortable room. Staff was amazing. Rooms are small, but quaint and cozy. The only thing it needed was a full length mirror in bedroom area. Lots of history here. We would stay again.
Clean, well kept rooms in an interesting historical building. Friendly and attentive staff were very helpful.
Great stay! Historic hotel with a lot of charm. The front desk lady was super friendly and very informative. The room was very clean, ac worked well, and the bed was super comfortable. If I'm in the area again, ill definitely stay!
Hotel was locked up with no way in...not appreciated after a 9 hour drive in the rain at 1 in the morning.
This was a total fiasco from the beginning. From not willing to help to front office staff being rude to not even having an ice machine except at the front desk. I get it’s a historic hotel but that should be your opportunity to shine -not dim
Historic hotel
Stayed at the Gunter on a bicycle
Trip..staff was outstanding and a room
For the bikes was a bonus. They gave great recommendations for dinner and breakfast. Great Job Gunter!
This is a very quaint historic hotel in a lovely town. Rooms are well equipped, nothing fancy but more than adequate. Big porches overlooking Main Street. Would stay again.
Breakfast across Main Street, book store, steakhouse a half mile away.
Very good
Late arrival due to severe weather led to a nightmare. What kind of hotel has nobody on site after 5 PM. Finally into room after midnight. Room poor. AC very bad. Only bathroom was ok. NEVER AGAIN.
Great value for the price. Hotel built in 1897, lots of character. Would stay again.
The restaurants and other items advertised to be on property were all closed. The hotel is old and my floor had a big slope in it. Even though there were apartments in the building everything was quiet. Staff seemed to go home for dinner at 6. Only 1 restaurant close by was open. LG's was decent enough, but many others closed hours before or were closed on Monday.
Convenient location, reasonably priced and clean.
Clean room, friendly staff, convenient, walkable to downtown
Missing the toasted goat bar, speakeasy, and outdoor bar. Something needs to take over those places.
Needs some upgrades to hotel- new carpeting throughout the whole place and in the rooms.
It’s an old historic hotel. The restaurant associated with it is closed. My room was small, certainly nothing fancy, other than a tv, no amenities. Interesting area to wander.
Very cool historic hotel, comfortable and mostly clean. Check-in is abysmal, starting at 3pm, there is only a person at the front desk for an hour or two, which is crazy. Keys were supposed to be left in lock box, but weren’t. Had to call the owner to come let me in, who was very nice and apologetic, but was still an unnecessary step in my opinion when you could just staff the desk a little longer. The hotel is dated, but I found it charming, however the elevator was sketchy at best, to a point I thought i was going to get stuck in it, and actually did stop working at the end of my stay. I hope ownership can tighten this place up, because I’d love to visit again.
Have stayed previously. Area has become like a ghost towne
While it initially seemed like a good place to stay in Frostburg there was definitely some misgivings once we arrived. First was check in...from 3pm to 5pm. If you cant make the window then you have to arrange for afterhour check in which in involves a realtors lock box attached to an iron window grate at the basement level at the back of the hotel. Second, the long walk through the basemant hallway that has seen better days in terms of decore and smell. While the full size dioramas where interesting, everything was old and faded and smelled. Thirdly, the attached restaurant, The Toasted Goat. Apparently it shut down awhile ago, yet both the hotel website and restaurant website continue to promote the restaurant. It is one of the reasons we chose to stay. And finally, while old, the room was clean and tidy. The most interesting thing though is that we never saw a single soul the entire time. No staff, no guests. It was....concerning....and gave off Shining vibes.
