Lovely property in the middle of town
Pros:

The Prince Arthur is located downtown, with a nearby casino but don't let that bother you. Their parking lot has ample space for cars, and seems secure. We have stayed here several times over the years and have never had an issue. Harbourfest was happening as well as a street festival and the Prince Arthur seemed to be in the midst of it all. Great location! Our room was large, 2 queen beds, and a coffeemaker with pods was included, as was a full breakfast in the cafe. We also had dinner in the cafe/ restaurant and it was excellent. Comfy beds and pillows, very nice towels were all appreciated at the end of our long drive.

Cons:

The hotel is possibly the oldest in the city, not sure, but it was certainly very elegant in its day. You may notice some peeling paint on the antique doors, but this is nothing major, just adds character, like an old home.

Pros:

Breakfast ok

Cons:

The room had an unpleasant smell - I think it was musty carpet. The vending machine didn’t give correct change. Desk clerk said we should call them. Pretty poor response In my opinion.

We will be back here the next time we visit Thunder Bay
Pros:

Loved the location and seeing the Sleeping Giant from our window! Loved the lake view. The complimentary breakfast was awesome. Liked the fact that they made space for the wildfire refugees.
I also have to compliment their security. The room key which is required for access to the hotel in the evening and also required to work the elevator is appreciated as there’s some sketchy people hanging around but they hang around everywhere and these security methods keep the guests safe. I don’t understand the complaints about needing to use key cards to make the elevator go etc. I was glad for it. I have to say a thank you for the security guard who chased away a weirdo for me one night in the parking lot! They are really on the ball. The front desk and all the staff we encountered were polite and friendly.

Cons:

They need more pillows on the beds

Pros:

Breakfast was good. I liked the standard eggs and bacon served at the table. Location was good. Parking was fine.

Cons:

More places to hang a towel/washcloth. Stronger coffee, real glasses and cups, not single use.

It didn’t feel right.
Pros:

We had the family suite which consisted of two bedrooms with a sitting room in between. The overhead light in the sitting room was on and could not be turned off because it was controlled by a missing remote. That would be a problem as the light would shine into one of the bedrooms all night. Staff was not available to fix the problem so it was remedied by putting a blanket over it which didn’t completely solve the problem. Moving to a similar room was not available. The bedding was fine but were only full size beds. Decor was minimal other than a floor plant. No pictures. The couch in the sitting room had a couch cover that was used to hide its wear and tear. A wing back chair appeared dirty with age. There was an indoor hot tub of the above ground variety but had no water in it. It didn’t seem like it was in a bad neighborhood but they lock the doors at 9 and there is a security guard. The view over looking the water front was good.

Icky and Sketchy
Pros:

Having driven from Winnipeg, we were tired and needed a place to stay. We couldn’t believe how expensive Thunder Bay was! The Prince Arthur seemed to be reasonably priced, and although the reviews weren’t great, we decided to give it a shot. How bad could it be? Right? Well…

I do love an historic building and I was excited to explore this grand old lady. Unfortunately, the grand old lady was a decrepit disaster. And beyond sketchy. Our room, while spacious, was incredibly run down, grimy and just generally icky. It’s really too bad, because the 10-foot ceilings, original brass hardware, solid wood doors and grand, wide hallways would be spectacular with some TLC. And not just a little bit of TLC… it needs to be completely gutted.

Would not recommend staying here…pay more and stay spmewhere clean.

Spend the extra $40 to stay in a modern hotel. We stayed here for the nostalgia; rundown mess.
Pros:

Restaurant was wonderful. The renovation was nice, and the service was wonderful. All the staff were great.
Air conditioning unit in the room worked well, and was clean.

Cons:

There was no power in half of our room. We had to re-arrange the room to get a bed close to power outlet for c-pap machine. No instructions or TV guides for the tv, or other electronics in the room.
There was a big gap under the door, where we had to put a towel to keep light out from hallway.
The door did not lock. ( Old school chain lock, but no door lock)
The carpet was dirty, mattress cover torn, and dusty in the room.
The pool was not labelled to where it was. Needed to ask the security guard to show us where. Once found, half the amenities listed on the website were removed or out of order. ( no sauna, hot tub empty, and pool not heated/ice cold)
Was awkward needing to use our room key to open doors of elevator, move the elevator between floors, or open any door in the hotel.

A cool historical stay, with friendly staff and a nice view!
Pros:

Great location, antique interior, and amazing staff! Breakfast was delicious and the beds were comfortable.

Cons:

The outlet in the bathroom wasn't working which was unfortunate, and some of the furniture in the room was a bit beat up / dirty.
