Our room was freshly renovated and the beds were clean and comfy. The A/C was excellent, and staff was lovely.
The exterior of the hotel made me worry we had made a mistake. The continental breakfast had nothing available for people needing gluten-free and the food was also very unappetizing. The bathroom in our room could use a renovation and thorough cleaning - the tub surround was stained and streaky.
Riesige Suite mit zwei getrennten Schlafzimmer. Ruhig und sehr angenehm. Frühstück etwas spartanisch aber gut. Ein paar Schritte zum Alpenhorn. Gesamhaft, sehr gut und empfehlenswert

Th signage was off looking for the Best Western and the name was Surestay. The outside of the hotel appeared a little tired.

This hotel is definitely subpar. The people try. I don’t know that I can say the same for the owners. The hotel definitely needs renovations. Everything is old. The rooms don’t have mirrors except for one small one in the bathroom. They advertise laundry and fitness centre facilities, but neither are operational. I noticed that they got the fitness centre fixed up a bit before we left, but I popped my head in the door and all I could smell was rubber. It was a gross smell that I will never work out in. Also to accommodate the dryer that was not working, they allowed us to use the commercial laundry dryer. So again, I know the people try to accommodate, but these things are not really fixing the source of the problems.
We were staying on the second floor with my 84-year-old mother. She’s capable of walking, but I never thought I needed an accessible room. Given that the hotel has two stories and no elevator it definitely was a pain both for her to climb the stairs and also for us to bring in all the luggage.
Further when we arrived, because I booked through CAA travel they tried to tell me that I didn’t pay, and I had to provide all the printed documentation that I thankfully brought with me in order to prove that.
The room that I originally booked had three beds, but the toilet seat was broken. That gave me the creeps because surely if that toilet seat was cleaned, someone would’ve noticed and reported it.
Also, that room boasted having a kitchenette. Well above that kitchenette, there was no light. I don’t know how they expect anybody to actually use it properly.
When I pointed out that I was not going to risk my mother’s safety on that toilet seat, they provided us 2 queen rooms. Given the facilities - this was acceptable, but still too bad that our party had to be split while staying here.
Hotels in Smithers are expensive to start with because there isn’t a lot of choice. I would suggest you look at other options if you can afford them.
