We booked a two-night stay hoping for a relaxing break away. As parents of a young child, one of the main reasons for the trip was simply to enjoy two uninterrupted nights of sleep and a peaceful morning. Unfortunately, this turned into one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had.
Check-in was straightforward, and everything initially seemed fine. We went out for dinner, returned to the hotel, and went to bed. At around midnight, we were abruptly woken by what sounded like a rubbish collection vehicle or similar directly outside the hotel. Just as we eventually managed to get back to sleep, we were woken again at around 5:00 a.m. by the neighbouring bar receiving a delivery of beer kegs.
The most frustrating part was discovering that the hotel staff were already aware this happened regularly. In fact, the member of staff who admitted knowing about the issue was the same person who had checked us into that room the previous evening. Had we been warned, or simply allocated a different room, the entire situation could have been avoided.
After insisting that something be done, we were eventually moved to another room around two hours later. By then, however, the damage had already been done. We were fully awake, our relaxing morning had been ruined, and the replacement room was noticeably smaller and of a lower standard than the one we had originally booked.
We raised our concerns with the daytime staff, who acknowledged the complaint but only offered us either a drink in the bar or a taxi to our evening destination. Neither offer was appropriate. My wife and I don't drink alcohol, and our evening plans were only a five-minute walk away, making the taxi completely unnecessary. We explained that these gestures were not suitable, yet nothing else was offered.
Since returning home, I have contacted the booking platform on three separate occasions.
the atmosphere
some of the equipment i.e the sink was old and did leak
Absolutely couldn’t write anything bad about this place
Everything
Location high standard
On check out the receptionist asked if I was happy to pay a discretionary £8 tip.
I tipped appropriately during my stay but don’t understand what a tip at check out is for
I refused as did person before and after me.
I have been really happy to book Hotel Gotham a few times over the last few years, very happy memories there.
Unfortunately as the website of now called Thd Rex, doesn't price twin rooms, I telephoned them just now. Receptionist (female) surprised the phone rang, just about remembered where she was and how to answer the phone, suggested just to go to the Web. When I asked if she could give me a rate for 2 rooms next February, got quite confused, some chatter in the background.... I think I will go else where!
Fantastic reception service and great service when checking out when we advised of our problem with breakfast that resolved the issued quickly and satisfactory. Breakfast choices mixed, hot food (when eventually arrived was good apart from bacon which had hardly any meat you coudl access) but no rolls and only croissants in pastry section). Lovely room with good quality bedding and bathroom products. Excellent location in the heart of Manchester.
Service very slow, although we saw our hot food order being typed into computer, it never arrived and we had to chase it up and we were never offered toast initially, also had to be ordered a second time. Breakfast choices mixed, hot food (when eventually arrived was good apart from bacon which had hardly any meat you could access) but no rolls and only croissants in pastry section)
Poor Experience at Reserve
Decided while visiting Manchester today to try the new Rex (old Gotham ) for a drink on their rooftop bar.
Not the greatest experience even although they were very quiet and there was at least 3 members of staff my husband had to go to the bar to order our drinks
Poor show for a hotel was such stature ....
Reserve ... you need to pull your socks up
