At the end of January, 2026, My wife and I got away for a quick one night stay in the finger Lakes. Our stay at The Geneva on the Lake Hotel was wonderful. The room was exceptional as was the atmosphere in the bar. Breakfast the next morning was also very good. We will definitely stay here when the next opportunity presents itself. We highly recommend this boutique hotel.
This hotel smelled just like what it was, outdated structure. Rooms were small and outdated, staircases were probably not to code.
Misrepresented views of the lake. Non cooperative staff.
Originally called to let the hotel know that we were traveling with our two small dogs. That message didn’t get passed on unfortunately but the staff accompanied us by putting us in a “non-pet” room.
The grounds are beautiful. Was very quiet the night we stayed there.
The website suggests a high-end experience, and, unfortunately, the stay you actually have is average, at best. Booked a deluxe suite for 2 nights, thinking that it would have a sitting area, or anything other than sitting in the bed. The room we received had a king bed, one chair (so low to the ground, my five foot frame had issues getting out of it), and a full (dated) kitchen. The fireplace was not functional, and had a sign that said the chimney was removed for safety reasons. The bed was comfortable, and the view was lovely, but the windows did not open.
We ate dinner at the restaurant and were terribly underwhelmed by the New York strips we ordered. The server made several mistakes, but was gracious. The bartender was excellent in his recommendations and super helpful with suggestions for the next day. Breakfast the next morning was included in our package, but was still charged to our bill separately, which required a phone call and email to have it (mostly) reversed. Selections for breakfast were limited and only one waitress was serving both rooms, so it required some patience.
Overall, it’s fine to sleep or wander the lovely gardens, but do not bother with the restaurant or expect a resort-like experience. I’m sure the Finger Lakes has better to offer at that price point.
the staff was very friendly and the property itself was fantastic.
Amazing!
Unbeknownst to us, a wedding party was scheduled literally right outside our room door. Party was loud and obnoxious well into the night. Drunk wedding guests tried to forcibly enter our room and we have not had any rest after paying hundreds of dollars to get away for the weekend. Aside from the loudness and disruption, we felt very unsafe even in our room and definitely wouldn’t have been able to leave our room. Don’t go here, it was an incredibly unsafe environment
There is poor management here and it is unfortunate, because this could be a nice place. The arrival at the lobby was the most underwhelming check in ever. It’s a counter with room for about three people in a tiny room, we just wanted to run. The corridor carpets smell and are frayed, they couldn’t find our key for about 45 minutes. The rooms are very dated, with very old appliances. The rest of the room was fine and spacious, but the kitchen was just bad, not another way to put it. Our breakfast was included, however staff didn’t show up and a young lady from the front check in counter was helping and doing her best. My breakfast was not eadible at all and we just left. This isn’t really a hotel or resort, it appears to be an old apartment building with a restaurant.
Definitely an older place, but very quaint. We spent the weekend there with a 4 hour driven wine, beer, and cider excursion. Our lady Joan who drove us,as well as took care of our reservation, was personable and fun. Restaurant had good food, we only ate breakfast once, choices were limited, but excellent. You can access the lake, but is a small hike.
Expedia sent me a phony menu and wine pairing document that the hotel convincingly explained was not valid. I only made dinner reservations thru Expedia because of this promotion. The dining staff were very kind and apologetic .
The pool alone is reason to visit this stunning property. Old world opulence, beautiful views and grounds.
Outstanding service! Beautiful grounds and very comfortable rooms! We will be back for sure as this I one of the nicest places I have have ever stayed
“WOW! What a MAGNIFICENT, Magical resort this is! We Highly recommend it. Room was clean, large & stately. Restaurant food & cocktails were delicious. Our fire alarm started beeping one night and Jason, who was wonderful, kind & courteous was at our room in 10 seconds flat & resolved the situation. We were offered an upgrade in our room by Jehan, the manager, a bottle of bubbly from Kristin, the assistant manager, it was then hand delivered to our room, with a friendly smile, by Christina the concierge. The pool was just right and the Jimi-Marley singers on Tuesday night was a treat. We had a lovely stay!
Property is located in a beautiful setting on the lake. The garden and the view from the restaurant are incredible. We ate at the restaurant and some of the items were good but some were mediocre. Overall would love to stay there again, beautiful and relaxing place.
Right on the lake, beautiful walking area behind the hotel. Highly recommend the hotel restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Wine tasting. Lunch was classic and well made. Service was excellent. The Som suggest some local wines to match our lunch that hit the spot. Had the charcuterie plate and some other apps Thought it wall was very good then walked the grounds. M

We stayed in townhouse I. The smell was like old mothballs . It was so off putting that we almost left and went somewhere else but for 650.00 a night ( absolutely NOT worth it ) we stuck it out. The pictures online are not what we got. The beds did not have anything but a sheet and a white thin blanket . No cute decor. Very dated and not in a charming way. The grounds are lovely but the price is not worth it. I wanted to live it because the pictures made it look darling. If you like musty, old mothball smells at an overpriced price then this is the place . If not - keep moving down the street to a different place .
Lovely property. With a modest but reasonable investment of : new mattresses, new carpeting, new drapery, this property goes a whole better category of protection.
I join others in writing that this property deserves to be rated”Terrible”. Let me explain.
After researching this last year and seeing many good reviews I booked a stay. In compliance with their policy I paid them an advance of $1,197.44. “Since we are a small boutique property, each booking impacts our inventory, and we continually aspire to provide an exceptional experience to all our guests. To ensure that we maintain our standards, we require a 100% reservation deposit to confirm your reservation.” As a very frequent traveler (Marriott Titanium for Life, etc) I did so against my better judgment, but the pictures of the setting on their website gulled me into believing I was dealing with a high class hotel. Instead, here’s what we experienced.
The room was up a set of stairs that one reviewer compared to a fire escape. Fortunately our few pieces of luggage were carried up for us by a staff person. I use the word “fortunately” because there is no elevator. Once in the room, he said the fireplace was not functional due to the high cost of updating it. He proceeded to tell us how to operate the AC. The room was cold, so I asked how to control the heat? We were told the “boiler” would need to be turned on, but he’d see to that right away. After more than an hour of no heat, I called the front desk - they’d see to it. About another hour goes by, still no heat. We are able to get two space heaters brought to the room but still no boiler activity. We were not able to get an additional blanket because another room had requested 3 and no more were available.
Off to dinner. We were seated in an area that was cold and asked to be reseated in a warmer part of the restaurant. This turned out be next to swinging doors used by wait staff and kitchen. The space was very loud due to kitchen noise and robust conversation between cooks and waiters. We went back to the colder but quieter area. They pride themselves on having dry aged beef but the filet I ordered was nothing to brag about. Apparently they have a grill that does not cook hot enough to sear steaks and seal in meat juice. Result? Expensive, dry, overpriced filet. Pathetic!
Back to cold room where its drabness is now really undeniable. The tv is small and positioned so that it can be viewed only while being in bed. The only chair in room was a large old thing that did not invite a close look that might disclose why the impression it conveyed was want of cleanliness. The seat cushion of this chair was the lowest I’ve seen, about 12” off floor and very uncomfortable. (Sorry, no picture.)
The bathroom? One reviewer has compared it to “old Quality Inn”. I disagree. I think we’re really in Motel 6’s domain here. That person, LD, did take a picture which I’ve cadged as a screen shot that needs to seen by anyone considering a stay at this high class place(?).
Breakfast the next morning was reserved for 9. We arrived early and couldn’t help notice several guests were waiting for their order. Not a good sign. By 9:30, with no coffee or even water being served, we called it quits. Told front desk our experience was so disappointing that we’re leaving. I expected some adjustment of our bill or at least a partial refund of the $1,000 plus I’d entrusted with them almost a year previously to secure our stay at this “small boutique hotel”. No luck.
Called the next day ( a Friday, Oct 11) and was told told by Christin (sp?) that a Mr W..K, the manager, would need to decide. No call back. Called back on Monday and was told by Christin that she would get an answer and promised a call back before end of the day. No call. I called the hotel back today (Wednesday, 16th) and was informed by Christin they were keeping ~$1,150, per policy, - you understand.
In every way this hotel deserves a rating of TERRIBLE and begs for a category lower than Terrible. I feel like I’ve been robbed, but they obviously need the money. Hope my money is used to make needed improvements.
