Perfect place to stay if you are going to take in the Grand Canyon South Rim. Walking distance to the bus route. The staff were extremely friendly and informational.
Stay at Yavapai was good for the following reasons :
- Being within the Grand Canyon means early entry to the views that can help you beat the crowd.
- Sunrise view at Yavapai point is conveniently located just 5 minutes from the resort.
- Coffee shop within resort opens by 7AM helping early risers.
- The lightning around the resort is Red-colored thus reducing light pollution and allowing for an amazing night sky watching experience even at the parking lot of your room. This way you can feel safe sitting out and watching the sky late into the night without having to hunt secluded spots which can creep you out.
- The Breakfast buffet was a great option to fill yourself well before heading out. The Tavern is open to meet your food needs even when the main restaurant is closed. So, food is taken care of.
- Shuttles stops are accessible easily for those preferring not to take out their car.
- Additionally there is a good general store located right across the Lobby area allowing you to pick up your grocery needs.
- Overall good value, clean rooms and good service.
NOTE: no microwave oven in the rooms. You can take your food to the Lobby and heat it there.
We had a pet friendly room and it exceeded our expectations! So big, so comfortable, so all amenities and the bathroom products are great!
However, the food at the Yavapai lodge and tavern was so abysmal I mean so terrible! Plan ahead for the food places at Bright Angel instead! Or use the grocery store deli!
Clean, tranquil, and comfortable especially we traveled with our pup. Perfect time of the year to visit. No crowd. Easy to visit restaurants, gift shops.
Clean room. Very peaceful. Deer family roamed the area just outside. Take a flashlight as it is dark dark dark outside just to get to your car.
quite and good place to go. My wife and I have got a wonderful experience there in Grand Cayon and Yavapai Lodge. If we have chance, we will take my family there again
A basic 2 star hotel, that we absolutely loved!
We were greeted and checked in by the lovely Grace who was so happy to help us.
We had a second floor room which was accessed by a metal staircase on the outside of the building. The rooms are located in separate blocks away from the main building in the woods. It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little dated but everything worked well.
The main building housed reception, manned 24 hours, a restaurant, a tavern, a snack bar and a gift shop. Opened at various times.
The food was basic but good heart fair which was just right after a day exploring the canyon.
There was a fire pit outside and a fire inside. Great for sitting a chatting about the day.
Across the parking lot was a general store with everything you good need including equipment hire.
It reminded us of centre Parcs ( without the paid activities) combined with a youth hostel.
Our stay at Yavapai Lodge was truly exceptional. The location is unbeatable — within walking distance of one of the most iconic viewpoints for watching the sunrise and very close to the Visitor Center. The shuttle stop right at the entrance makes it extremely convenient to explore the park.
At night, the clear, unpolluted sky offers breathtaking stargazing opportunities : a magical experience in itself. All the staff were friendly, attentive, and always willing to assist with any questions or requests.
The room was very well equipped, featuring tea and coffee-making facilities, an iron and ironing board, and even recycling options. The beds were extraordinarily comfortable, ensuring a great night’s rest after a day of exploring.
As a delightful bonus, we were able to see wildlife wandering around the property — including deer and squirrels! The free parking is another great advantage.
Without a doubt, Yavapai Lodge is a place I would wholeheartedly recommend and look forward to returning to in the future.
The room itself was modern enough, but the bathrooms really need to be updated and thoroughly cleaned. The shower had mold in it, had intense water pressure (which is ironic for the notices of saving water), and the trim was actively peeling off the wall.
The bathroom layout doesn’t make sense and is the real need for an update. It’s one of those where the toilet and shower are in a separate closed off door area from the sink, which isn’t the end of the world, but the sink doesn’t have a door separating it from the rest of the room. So if you’re needing to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you get to wake up the rest of the room by turning on the light to see the kitchen sink unless you want to fumble around in the dark.
The thermostat with the AC/heating unit didn’t behave correctly. The room was noticeably way too warm, and so we turned the thermostat to a known comfortable temperature and found that it was randomly sending out heat from the unit.
The bed was comfortable and got the job done.
If you are one of the unfortunate people who get put at the end of the hall like us, you get to enjoy being woken up at the crack of dawn by those entering and exiting the building. It doesn’t matter how quiet they are. There’s little to no noise insulation.
We would not come back here. We only stayed two nights (for one full day), but we thought about leaving sooner even though we enjoyed the hike we did do on that day.
There is little to no good food options in the area that’s worth the money, so please remember that if you care even a little about food being more than just sustenance. The buffet at the hotel is okay enough to get the job done but overpriced for what it is. The staff was nice at least.
We have stayed at both the Yavapai Lodge (motel type accommodations) and
El Tovar (hotel type accommodations).
Pro : El Tovar for the historic interest mainly.
Con: Longer walks in and out and to and from room and parking.
Pro: Yavapai Lodge for easier walks to and from room and parking for visiting other points and viewing.
Con: No air conditioner. No wifi.
We have also had meals at both locations.
El Tovar for more choices on menu and service. Historic interest also, of course.
Yavapai Lodge for quicker service at cafeteria.
Great location inside GCNP with easy access to grocery, restaurants, rim walks & main trails. Walk, drive, bike, shuttle, taxi...
The accomodation was 10min walk from reception. Without a car you’re in trouble. At night time there is zero lighting. I was walking into trees and tripping over rocks the path was invisible to my cabin. I had to go back to the road and look for a faintly visible white line on the road to lead me to the entrance of the cabin road. By now I was shivering with cold and running along the road to stay warm. I also ran out of charge on my phone so couldn’t use that as a torch and reception just told me it’s my problem go buy a charger. They wouldn’t just give me a little charge so I could have a light to get back to my room. Some businesses they just have zero concern and just want your money.
We enjoyed staying at the Yavapai Lodge as it was centrally located to the shuttle bus stops, market/grocery store, and lodge for coffee, breakfast, grab & go, and great beers. Quick drive to Mather Point to watch sunrise or sunset/moonrise. Clean rooms with a comfortable bed. A family of mule deer walked past our window for an added treat.
Just OK
We loved Yavapai Lodge and the Grand Canyon
Would highly recommend!
Convenient location and friendly staff.
We couldn’t have asked for a better vacation experience!
Great spot to spend a night or two to explore the area. Comfortable, clean room with all the required amenities. Excellent dinning options available with great service and eating drinking at each. Really enjoyed our overnight stay.
Very picturesque was the surroundings.
A peaceful ocation within the National Park. Convenient for the shuttle bus and facilities at the lodge and general store.
