Des Lux Hotel

We were very impressed with the Des Lux. We have family in Des Moines and have been trying different hotels each stay and the Des Lux is by far a favorite. Comfortable beds, well appointed rooms. Breakfast was excellent. Appreciated that there was a city lot across the street as well as amble street parking. Also appreciated that there was always someone available at the front desk. We will be staying again.

Des Lux was great! A neat building with history. Very clean. The bar area is nice and the breakfast was better than expected with lots of options and grab-n-go items. We didn't get to use it but the gym is also very nice with more workout and spa equipment than most. We have a wedding for a friend coming up in July. Even though Des Lux is further from the venue for us, we are still going to book a room with them.

If you value history or just oddities like I do, this hotel is a true gem. The amenities are modern but the atmosphere is like walking into the early 1900’s. There is a ton of history in this building and it is displayed in a comfortable and elegant style.

Wonderful staff, very clean, and the decor is unique. Definitely worth checking out. Breakfast selection was above the standard.

The hotel doesn’t take themselves too seriously, and indeed the lobby has a dark, goth and really quirky ground floor. Think of it as the Cabinet of Curiosities. There are big book cases, Egyptian and Greek statues, a grand piano and exposed brickwork. It’s an old gentleman’s club they have converted to a hotel. The place had so much character, a lot of it quirky.

Upstairs, my room was huge, with a sitting chair, desk, giant credenza, 2 sinks in the bathroom, small fridge and a coffee machine. This is in addition to an old fashioned looking phone and a bedside clock. It was really cool and retro, but all quite modern. I loved the place, and was disappointed I could only spend one night.

They also included a decent breakfast in the room rate. There is no free parking, but rather it is $10 per day for the garage across the street.

You will not be disappointed at this hotel. Their customer service by far exceeded my expectations. They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

We went for a romantic night away and had a wonderful time. Mary at the front desk was so great and accommodating and made sure we had the best time! The room was amazing - we had the getaway suite - it was incredible! We also added the romance package - it was great!

Room was the nicest non-resort hotel room i have ever stayed in. Very room, working gas fireplace, extremely clean. This from a Delta 4 Million+ miler who has stayed in a lot of hotel rooms.

We really enjoyed our stay and went away feeling refreshed. It was a first class experience all the way! We are already planning our next adventure.

Our stay was for a wedding which was 1 block away. We loved the accommodations which were perfect for family as well as the Bride & Groom. When we asked for early check-ins we were easily accommodated as well as a late check-out the day after the wedding! The rooms were clean and the atmosphere matched our wedding theme of elegant! We would absolutely stay here again!

Wonderful experience! Mary at the desk is an excellent asset to Des Lux. Kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. An amazing kitchen staff as well. Hot breakfast with lots of choices. A marvelous stop to celebrate our mom's 97th birthday!

It is a nice hotel in a good location. It is old, so the walls are not well protected against sound. We chose Des Lux over similar hotels because of the gym. There is a hot tub in the next room, and there are no walls, so the gym is hot. Also, one of the two treadmills was broken, and the nice rowing machine was broken. We told the front desk but it was not fixed by the time we left.

A wonderful hotel and staff. Very elegant room and decor. Very clean and well kept. By far the best hotel i have stayed in for a very long time. More than satisfied.

We had a great stay for a quick couples getaway. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The staff helped to make our stay enjoyable and Mary took care of setting up dinner and other activities for us, which was much appreciated. It's walking distance to the farmers market and local breweries and other restaurants, which we enjoyed. I can't understate the service from the entire staff, they really care about their customers. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I have stayed at the Des Lux for three years now to celebrate our anniversary, and we have never been disappointed. The ambiance of the hotel is tranquil with some gothic vibes. The rooms are incredible, the whirlpool bath is a godsend, and the fireplace is magical. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The hotel is also in downtown, so there are plenty of places within a few blocks to walk to for food and things you may have forgotten. I would highly recommend this hotel for a nice getaway.

The Des Lux hotel has become my go-to for both business and pleasure. It combines the beautiful old-style luxury hotel rooms, lobby, and bar with an excellent gym, sauna/spa, and conference room to make this a luxury hotel with reasonable prices in a great location.

I have traveled the world over and stayed at premium hotels. Nothing came close to the level of service we received from Des Lux. Additionally the physical appearance of the hotel is so interesting and warm. The rooms are spacious and very comfy. We couldn't stop talking about our experience. All our friends will be hearing about this place
