Relaxing Historic Inn and Property
Pros:

Beautifully renovated historic home that welcomes you from the moment you drive in. The property is vast and the immediate grounds are very well maintained with many activities to interest all-pool, hiking trails, and croquet. The public spaces androoms are well put together while maintaining their historic integrity. Grab a crab cocktail at the in-house bar and have dinner in any of the well appointed dining spaces. A great place to stay before/after a visit to Monticello.

A wonderful place to collapse if you've spent the day diving deep into Monticello.
Pros:

The continental breakfast was amazing; we especially loved the granola parfait and the blueberry bead and scones.

Cons:

Heating in the cottages - the law office and Merriweather - was spotty. We couldn't figure out how to make the "splits" work. But we really loved the beds and showers - and the fact that we were in historic, well-preserved cozy places. We were just sorry to have to leave before we'd had a chance to explore the grounds - so gorgeous in early spring.

Nice place not as close to Charlottesville as I thought and the continental breakfast was a joke. Overall it seems a bit expensive for accommodations.

Pros:

We stayed in the Meriweather. Room was a bit too rustic for my liking. Floor was rough stone & area rugs definitely need to be replaced. Had to kill a couple of bugs in bathroom area as well!
Food in restaurant was very good & staff very friendly. The grounds are very pretty.
Don't think I would stay rhere again though

The property is a 10-minute drive from Monticello, and close to Charlottesville, if you even feel the need to do any sightseeing off the property. On the property, there are trails leading to a small lake and the Rivanna River. The chef is amazing. The two dinners and two breakfasts were superbly prepared. The wine and whiskey lists are extensive. The property is quiet and all the rooms are lovely -from the dining areas (the library dining room was my favorite for dinner and the veranda was delightful for breakfast) to the unique bedrooms. The staff is fantastic. It has been quite awhile since I had my room prepped for the night with a cookie placed on my pillow, while I was having dinner. The best part about The Clifton is that it is dog-friendly. I highly recommend it.
