We loved the history of the hotel and walking around and looking at all the beautiful rooms and old furniture. The Scarlet restaurant was fabulous and right in the hotel. We were surprised with a free dessert for our anniversary which is why we came to the hotel to celebrate. The buttercream raspberry cake is out of this world! So many cute shops all within walking distance and also a cute shop right in the hotel. We appreciated the underground parking for our vehicle which made unloading so much easier as the door to the lobby was right there. I highly recommend this hotel as a great place to just get away even for a night. You will feel like you are being pampered in an amazing historic hotel. You have to dine at the amazing Scarlet kitchen, the food was top notch!
We will definitely be back!!
Our bed had like a plastic sheet on the mattress which made it feel very damp. We just slept on top of the blanket and it helped a little. We did happen to get the smallest room in the hotel which was fine but the bathroom was really small and the toilet was right up to the wall when you sat down. It was a bit challenging for my husband who has had 2 knee replacements. We were also awaken to a false alarm at 6:50am that went off twice and we kept getting a busy signal at the front desk to find out what was happening. So unfortunately we weren’t able to sleep in and enjoy a cup of coffee in our room. We just packed up left early😥. But, the Hanisch Bakery is right across the street if you want to choose from 100s of fresh baked goodies and great coffee!
Great location, clean & large rooms, great restaurant
The restaurants were excellent! We enjoyed breakfast and dinner both. The food and ambiance were great!
This an older historical property more than 150 years old. It does not have many of the newer amenities you would expect in a hotel in this price range, however, the charm and furnishings along with the history more than make up for the things you don’t have.
The staff at the restaurant were amazing and the food was very good.
Our room wasn't serviced the day before we were to leave. When I went down to tell the front desk we needed our room serviced I was told they already left for the day but he could bring me towels. Not good enough for what we paid for. There was no effort to discount, offer an extra something, or something to make it right and only said it would be passed along. To sleep in a room that was not cleaned, bed made etc had me looking for a room closer to the airport to spend our last night in the area.
Loved the layout of the suite and the riverside view, food was delicious at the Scarlet Kitchen, and staff very helpful!
There was a constant noise above bed and confusing to navigate if taking stairs.
Beautiful facilities!
The whirlpool tub was dangerous / slippery to enter and exit, just to take a shower.
Location and character
Beautiful old hotel in a great town to visit. always a good time here.
Didn’t get breakfast
Drain in tub wide open. No strainer to stop anything falling into drain.
Mainly very quiet, but not a good seal on door and voices in hallway very noticeable.
The food was excellent. And the river view from my room was so beautiful.
The bed was horrible and couldn't sleep. Someone kept slamming their doors until 1230am.
The people were super friendly. It’s an old hotel but very lovely and interesting!
The bed has a frame that if you aren’t careful you can really get hurt bumping into it. I’m all bruised up by it on my leg. My husband stubbed his toe on the bed. It was scary when you round the corner of the bed it’s right there and you seriously can get hurt. I’m a bleeder with CLL leukemia, so I must be very careful. Just didn’t work out for us sadly
EVERYTHING! It was a great place to stay in preparation for our Steam Train Excursion across Minnesota!
Nothing! It was all good
