Well situated hotel, lovely property, beautiful room with balcony and spectacular views. Great food and drinks at the bar and restaurant. Would stay again and recommend.
As others have mentioned, it's unfathomable to me that previous guests could give The Madrona only two- or three-star rating. The buildings and grounds are astonishingly beautiful. The staff is hands-off yet fully present if you need them. The complementary breakfast was fresh, simple, delicious and fortifying. And our restaurant dinner was our best meal in Healdsburg.
If you are a low-maintenance person with high standards, this is the place for you. The Madrona nails low-key luxury. It's peaceful, private, and restorative. Without a doubt, it meets current standards for high-end accommodations without being pretentious or trendy.
Beautiful hotel and rooms.
Amazing wine and food at the restaraunt. Wonderful for a romantic getaway.
Charles was very friendly and was a wonderful host with great wine recommendations.
Really enjoyed our stay at The Madrona. Served as a great home base for 6 nights within easy driving distance of everything we wanted to do/see. We had a Salon Balcony room, which was spacious and well appointed (loved having tons of hangers and a steamer; blackout curtains were great for those of us who really need a pitch black room). Special shoutout to the concierge who helped find an alternative activity one day when we had a last minute cancellation of a previously booked event. Always had a super quick response for anything we needed brought to the room. They do daily cleaning plus turndown service in the evening, which was appreciated. A/C was a bit on the weak side but it is an old house so understandable; definitely wasn’t getting to 68 during the day (just be advised).
Breakfast was delicious though not a huge amount of variety over the 6 days (2 of the hot options were nearly identical - just swapping out bacon for sausage). Cold options never changed - fruit, yogurt, granola, and pastries of eclairs and croissants. The pasties were fresh and delicious. Fresh squeezed OJ from trees on the grounds was a real treat! We can’t speak to dinner food but drinks from the bar were good.
Overall we would definitely recommend!
We loved our weekend at the Madrona. The decor of the estate and the surrounding grounds is stunning. Smaller, intimate feel with the staff and other guests - not cookie cutter hotel feel. The staff went above and beyond. Rachel, the concierge, planned a birthday weekend itinerary for my husband and I (wineries and restaurants) and everything was spot on. She listened to our specifics and made excellent recommendations. We can’t wait to come back!
Stayed 3 nights in the carriage house room with balcony for our 10th anniversary. The room was cozy and absolutely loved the heated floors in the bathroom! The hotel grounds were beautiful! Had fresh oranges from their trees. The staff was friendly. Enjoyed morning coffee on the front porch of the hotel soaking in the views and staying warm with provided blankets. Each breakfast we had was tasty. Only disappointments were the hotel bikes were not very good (ended up renting higher quality bikes in town the 2nd day), and one night they didn’t have the staff to drive us into town so had to call an uber.
My stay at the Madrona was truly one of my favorite trips. The hotel was stunning, everyone was so gracious and hospitable, and the food was delicious. We enjoyed all 3 meals at the restaurant and each one was superb. The bungalow that we stayed at was serene and quiet and the heated floors were a wonderful touch. Rachel curated a perfect itinerary for us including making the reservations. The house car is a wonderful addition and made going into town (and enjoying wine) that much easier. Every single staff member we interacted with was friendly and always willing to help. We were so happy with our trip that we started planning our next trip to Madrona before we even checked out.
If you are looking for luxurious accommodations, impeccable service, and picturesque California wine-country sunrise views, then The Madrona is the perfect choice. We have just spent an incredible weekend celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday and am already longing to return. We love this place!
We did not enjoy our stay at all, the room was extremely dark to the point of being unusable during the day, the "Carriage House" in which we stayed smelled awfully of an excessively strong room refreshner and despite our complaints about being unable to use the room because of the cave it was, no solution was provided. All in all, we preferred our time anywhere outside in Healdsburg but inside the Madrona, what a pity.
My partner and I recently stayed at the Madrona for our first time to celebrate a birthday, and we had a truly wonderful and memorable experience. Beginning prior to our trip, I worked with the hotel's concierge, Rachel, to help us set up a low-key, relaxing weekend and she did not disappoint! She used the information I provided her about the wines and wineries we already enjoy visiting to offer on-point suggestions for new wineries we could visit and helped to set up our tasting times. She also made delicious recommendations for dining, including one dinner at The Madrona's own restaurant, which was fabulous.
The Madrona itself is a gorgeous property, sitting atop a hill off of Dry Creek Road with beautiful view. We stayed in the Carriage House and had our own patio outside our room, which was perfect for morning coffee or sitting out after a day of wine tasting. The property is home to a small orange grove and we enjoyed fresh picked oranges in our room daily. Don't skip the fresh squeezed orange juice and the continental breakfast in the mornings. Perfect way to start the day. Our room was spacious and thoughtfully decorated. The property also has a nice fitness facility which was accessible any time of day/night and the times I used it, it was quiet and clean. All of the staff were friendly, warm and helpful throughout our stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our whole weekend in Healdsburg, much of which was due to the wonderful support we got from Rachel and her work in putting together an awesome itinerary that matched what we were seeking perfectly. We will definitely return for another special occasion.
A surprisingly beautiful retreat in the Sonoma Valley. Close to downtown Healdsburg and all the Sonoma Valley has to offer, this chic and sophisticated destination is cozy and comfortable with beautiful views of the valley from its hillside perch. Perfect for a couples getaway or girls trip. Highly recommend.
We spent 2 nights at the Madrona. We loved the property and the rooms are beautiful. The heated floors in the bathrooms are a wonderful touch. We also got dropped off in town for dinner. Literally a 5 min drive. We had dinner at the restaurant too which we loved! Will def be back!
We live locally but had heard good things about the place so I decided to surprise my wife for a quick birthday getaway.
It's a beautiful old Victorian Manor that had been completely restored by new owners to it's former glory. I can't imagine what it took just to paint all that detail work. Beautiful grounds to explore too.
We had a balcony room overlooking the valley and vineyards. The room was very spacious with a fireplace and period decor. Could have used a TV for my wife but the quite is nice sometimes.
Downstairs was the small bar and a great sitting area inside, if you don't want to be on the large front porch area outside, while enjoying a glass of wine or a cocktail.
Food was 5 star, and it would be worth coming for the food alone. Actually I believe they were recently awarded Michelin Star for the restaurant.
And finally the staff . To a person beyond friendly and professional. They treat you like the big shot guest you wish you were!
Not cheap but well worth the price.
We live our Madrona staycations. The bar is lovely and serves amazing, unique cocktails, the restaurant is one of the under appreciated in the Northbay…it should get much more attention, and the staff are all knowledgeable and helpful. We look forward to coming back sooner rather than later.
After reading the wonderful reviews, we had been looking forward to our stay. We have stayed at Farmhouse Inn in Forestville and the Relais and Chateau hotel in Healdsburg and are familiar with the Russian River Valley and the wines. Unfortunately, the hotel physical plant failed badly, although the service was quite good and even above the usual call of duty. The bungalow heating was stuck in the on position and the young man who showed us the room and how things worked discovered that the remote control for the heater was not responsive. After dinner, the temperature in the room reached into the mid-80's with the heater blasting away, and nothing had been done because the engineer had left for the day. Eventually someone was able to cut the power to the heating unit. The bedroom was frigid as a result but the fireplace kept the front room warm. The shower control was difficult. None of the draperies worked without considerable effort. The drapery ropes were untethered when they should have been secured to the wall. There was no lighting on the slick stairs and deck at night, making these somewhat dangerous and slippery to navigate in the pitch dark. The response by the front desk was for us to come to check-in to get a flashlight. (??) None of these issues was addressed during our 2-night stay, except that the following day at midday after the tropical blast evening we received a text that the heater had been repaired (we left early for a day out). As for the room decor, the couch was dated and very uncomfortable and the table and sofa did not match. It was very spartan and not inviting.
I want to emphasize that the front-office staff was attentive and tried to help. The restaurant was nice and eventually coffee was delivered in the morning due to short staffing over the holiday. This is understandable. The condition of the room and the overall safety for a room charging north of $1000/night on the other hand is difficult to understand. This needs attention, and if I were scoring the stay it would have been at best 3/10. A top ranked hotel should do better. We will not return for a redux.
The uniqueness , the beautiful grounds.
We were in a cottage which was loved. However, the lighting in the room was really lacking. Our friends were in the main house and they also said the lighting was inadequate.
The stairs for our cottage were wooden and extremely slippery. Again, no lighting. My husband slipped and fell when we were leaving our room to go to dinner.
Charming bed & breakfast on a beautiful property in the outskirts of Healdsburg. Well-situated for wine tasting. Modest, clean rooms, not luxurious but well-enough appointed. Lovely option of a full dining room with a good dinner menu. Also a great bar to lounge in with coffee, wine or drinks. Romantic for a couples retreat!
We have stayed in many Hotels including the Montage (a big disappointment) and hotels n the Square. A friend of ours recommended the Madrona and we’ve never looked back. This is our place and will be every time we visit Healdsburg. We’ve stayed in a variety of rooms and each one is a new delight. All the creature comforts you could ask for. The hospitality and attention to guests is outstanding. There is a gym, pool, restaurant and the best bar around. Breakfast is always delicious and included. The Madrona is also dog friendly. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. What is not to love. Thank you to the Madrona staff. You always make us feel like family. Proximity to winery’s and downtown is perfect and the staff is so willing to make great recommendations on anything you want to do.
Beautiful oasis just outside of Healdsburg. Stayed for two nights in August and loved it. Had a beautiful, large room by the pool. Grounds are lovely. Dining excellent and the staff very, very helpful and friendly.
We had an amazing experience at The Madrona. The concierge, Rachel, planned a birthday weekend for our daughter and her recommendations and organization made the weekend very special. Hotel is very charming.
