Vimean Sovannaphoum Resort

Really unpleasant experience. The first room we received had smelly bathroom, so we asked for an exchange. Generally, the property is old and uninviting. There was one polite man at the reception, the rest were quite indifferent.

Look, it's Battambang. A small city/large town in a developing country. Expectations have to be moderated. Even so, this was pretty poor.

Good stuff first. The room was a good size, the aircon worked, the fridge worked, and the location is pretty good.

However the listing is false in a number of ways. The restaurant is not operating. Breakfast us a myth. The hot water takes about fifteen minutes to kick in, and there was no hot water to the wash basin at all. Half the powerpoints are clapped out so the plug just falls out of them. Loose (live?) electrical wire just poking through a hole into the cupboard. "Do not disturb" indicators don't work.

Overall, I'd probably suggest not coming to Battambang. If you do, don't stay here.

Nous avons passé 2 nuits très agréables dans cet hôtel. Piscine parfaite. Accueil très sympathique. Et le cadre est très joli.

Room was not ready at check in. No elevator. Poor Wi-Fi. Poor A/C. No privacy at pool. Furnitures in room old. A lot of wear and tear to room. Staff was courteous.

This hotel came highly recommended and has a beautiful garden area and pool. Beautiful backdrops for wedding photos. The room I had was large, spacious and clean but showing its age. The beds are firm but we’re comfortable enough for a short stay. Definitely a popular place to stay for the value and amazing staff.

Large room, quiet, very comfortable bed (mattress on the floor). Unfortunately it was let down by the bathroom, which got completely wet due to the open shower and the shiny floor tiles then got very slippery. Quiet pool and small garden area, pretty enough to be used by a wedding couple for their photos during our stay. Not much in the immediate area in terms of food options but we discovered Cafe Eden on the other side of the river, an easy walk for good food.

The young man who ran the front desk was helpful, kind, and gave great directions. He went out of his way and we approached him. The young lady…not so much.
This property has no restaurant, coffee shop and no free water ( the young lady charged 1000R for 1 small bottle). Not cool. Happily it did not happen again. The rooms have odd lighting. The bathroom light and fan went on every time you entered. The room was very large and comfortable. The pool was beautiful. There were 2 photo shoots there during our stay. If you like to walk it’s got a great location. Mixed bag

Today I would like to share my experience when I took my customers from France 🇫🇷 to Visit Battambang .

Ok, but not very neat, too many lights were not working, No soaps & not too clean

I stayed for 2nights. Clean room, comfortable bed, nice breakfast, friendly staffs.... everything was quite alright before i experience their laundry service. I got my shirts completely ruined. It can happen sometimes but they didn’t let me know about it when they hand it to me. I had to complain it myself and they said only the laundry fee can be refunded which is only 0.25 dollar per a shirt. Very disappointed.... Just be careful with the laundry service!

Very disappointed that we did not get the room that we booked and were told there were no other rooms available. Very large room but the safe didn't work, the mini fridge froze our food, the lighting was terrible, the wall paper was peeling, the side lamp didn't work. The worst was the shower - it needs to be ripped out! Disgusting and mouldy! The water leaks through the shower door into large water puddle in front of the sink. Hugely disappointed. Perhaps we just happened to get a terrible room. DO NOT GET A6!!

As well, there is a building being built right beside this one which greatly impacted the peace at the pool with loud sawing and hammering. Could be a great place, but I cannot recommend.

A couple of small gripes to start.

Our room A02 had a floor level bed on a raised platform. Not ideal for two fifty somethings.!!

The bathroom shower drainage had its own special route but the non slip floor dries off quickly.

The positives
- hotel was well located with only a ten minute stroll over the bridge to the centre of town
- a nice sized room next to the pool within a lovely garden setting. The pool beds were also very good and pool towels supplied.
- a good set menu selection of Asian and European choices for breakfast
- we ate two evening meals in the bar/restaurant area which were delicious, both of which were made up of Cambodian local dishes.

The real positives
- The Staff !!!! Absolutely outstanding service from everybody, from the team on reception organising laundry, extra keys, booking of bus tickets etc to the lady serving breakfast with a smile and freshly cut flowers, to the two girls running the bar / restaurant of an afternoon and evening who were a delight to interact with. Their smiling faces and willingness to have a laugh and a joke with us made our nights great fun.

The only miserable person we came across was I believe the actual owner who spent her time patrolling the premises, checking what was going on. No acknowledgement or eye contact made with her paying guests. She should take a leaf out of her staff's book on how to interact with customers.

Overall, a great stay. Thanks to everyone concerned.

Staff were helpful and friendly.
The grounds are lovely.
The room was spacious, it had a small shared balcony with the next room so was not private.
The bathroom needs some work. The shower head over the bath did not work and the other shower head which was in the corner made it impossible to stand under, and the while floor became wet, we also had no hot water on day 2 of our stay.
Breakfast was just ok, pancakes were the best menu item. On day 2 I received a coffee which came with ant covered sugar packet! that didn’t really bother me but I was surprised it wasn’t noticed by the staff.
The pool was lovely, but the mosquitoes seemed to love it too, there were never enough pool towels available.
Overall the hotel is fine, I would still recommend it and with a few improvements it could be a really lovely place to stay.

What a delightful retreat this hotel is. It is set in pretty gardens with lots of birds and with a pleasant swimming pool. Our room and bathroom were very spacious and clean. We had a balcony overlooking the garden which was a nice place to relax. The staff were very helpful. They arranged a tuk tuk transfer from the ferry terminal for five dollars. The tuk tuk driver was excellent,,thank you.
The food here was tasty but breakfast was poor value. I would definitely recommend staying here. Battambang is an interesting town. We stayed only two nights. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Bel hôtel stylé, jardin agréable et piscine sympa. Les chambres sont spacieuses, propres, situées au calme à l'arrière et ont tout le confort attendu. Personnel très serviable. Emplacement très proche du centre, nous avons circulé à pied. En partance pour Siem Reap nous avons réservé une voiture avec chauffeur pour 45$ auprès de l'hôtel. Très bon service. Rien à reprocher !

We stayed at Vimean Sovannaphoum resort for 2 nights. We're a family of five and so booked 2 rooms. On checkin we were told our rooms were not close to each other, which was a little disappointing given that it was obvious the booking was for a family but since we were only staying two nights it wasn't a deal breaker. The resort is about a 5-10 minute walk to the city centre so it's reasonably well located. Overall the resort is a little tired, the rooms could do with a fresh coat of paint for example but the grounds are nice. The rooms are clean and a good size. We ate lunch in the restaurant on both days and the food isn't too bad and the free breakfast is also not too bad. The restaurant staff are friendly and efficient and the reception staff helped us with some transport issues we had. It's a quiet, small resort and for a two night flyby Battambang visit it did the job. Particularly good for the price per room. A solid 3.5 stars if I could, giving it a 4 for value for money.
